My wife owns a Nikon D-300s with various (good) Dx lenses. She is now interested in close-up photography. In your opinion,
which would be a better choice, extension tubes or a close-up lens. She is an excellent photographer so she would be concerned with sharpness,D.O.F. etc.
As always, Thanks in Advance

Thanks for all the excellent info. Will experiment with all suggestions! Joe

I see that some photographers use live view to manually focus their camera. If I do not have 20/20 vision will the image be
as sharp as auto focus? If not, any suggestions on using live view without 20/20 vision? Lastly, are best results obtained by
focusing at maximum zoom and then recomposing at a lesser magnification? As always, thanks in advance.

I would like to respectfully ask Harvey or anyone else the settings he selected on his exceptional photo of a Northern Cardinal.
What advantage is there in shooting a still subject at 1/2000 with an iso of 1600? I see many photographers using a very fast shutter speed with an (unnecessary?) high iso. I have read that shooting at the lowest iso possible in obtaining a quality shot is the preferred method. Again, this is not a criticism but a question that I have not been able to get a definitive answer on. As always, thanks in advance. Joe

The only in-camera function I use is auto white balance. Only shoot in raw so I can modify using Kelvin scale in Lightroom if necessary. Joe Cormier

Chris,

Excellent lighting of fields. I would suggest cropping the sky and concentrating on the beauty of the fields. Joe

If I understand your problem, on import under file handling, check "do not import suspected duplicates" Joe

I want to be sure I am correct. I have Nikon's AF-S 28-300mm VR 3.5 to 5.6 lens. Can I or can't I use Nikon's 1.7 TC-17E 11 teleconverter on this lens. As always, thanks in advance. Joe

I plan on shooting an upcoming horse raise. I want to shoot at either 1/2000 sec. or 1/4000 sec. Currently using a D300s. Will the faster shutter speed negatively effect the quality of the image in relation to noise , color, etc. As always thanks in advance. Joe

My Nikon 300s has a LO1 ISO setting. I have never used it opting for the ISO 200. My question is what is the negative effects if any using this setting? I know Cannon has a standard ISO 100 setting. Is the Nikon LO1 comparable to the Cannon ISO 100?
As always, thanks in advance. Joe

D.B.
Will take your advice. Thanks

Is there any value in using auto focusing equipment in a variable lens? If for example on my 70mm/200mm lens my sharpness
is off at 200mm and I make an adjustment using my Nikon custom menu and adjust for perfect sharpness, Is my sharpness
then off at all other focal distances? As always, thanks in advance. Joe

Is the default color space of Lightroom 4 Prophoto RGB? In your opinions, what is the best color space to use in Lightroom and
also should I carry that color space through to Photoshop CS-5 if I wish to modify and print the image. Thanks In Advance. Joe

Try F-22.

I have installed L-R 4 and can't get the Graduated Filter to function. I am very familiar with its use as I have a lot of experience
with LR 3. When I attempt to drag down through the image the entire image changes to the modification I set in the sliders.
For example if I reduce the exposure to a -2 and begin to drag, the entire image darkens to -2. Any help would be great.
Thanks, Joe

Thanks to all who responded to my Camera Raw question. I have been reading about the advantages of converting my raw
files to dng. I make most of my modifications in lightroom and export to CS-5 to use such plug-ins as Nik. etc. When I try and
save the modifications my dng file is converted to a tiff. Is there anyway to use my plug-ins and maintain my dng file format.
If not, what is the purpose of the file if you edit in Photoshop? As always, thanks in advance. Joe

Jeff,
I did find a solution. In the dialogue box instead of checking "render using lightroom" I checked "open anyway" and
that worked bypassing ACR. Joe

Jeff,
thanks for responding. I do check "render using lightroom and it still opens in camera raw. Joe

Using Lightroom 4, when I try to open in CS-5 for editing I get the following message. "This version of Lightroom may require
the Photoshop Camera Raw version plug-in to be Version 7". "update Raw plug-in in Photoshop help menu under update. When
I open that option I get a message telling me that my plug-in is up to date (Camera Raw 6.6).

1. Can anyone explain this problem?

2. more importantly, I don't want to use Camera Raw at all and am quite satisfied using Lightroom only. However, every time I
try and open an image in Photoshop, it defaults to Camera Raw. Is there anyway to disable Camera Raw from opening?

as always thanks in advance.

Is there any reason to assume that there will be a replacement for the D-300s in DX?

V.R.lenses
in Nikon

I am aware of shutting off VR on my lens when mounted on a tripod. However do I have to shut if off when on my camera and camera is off? If I leave my camera on and the VR also on but keep the lens cap on, will the lens keep trying to track? Thanks in advance. Joe
