    Excellent composition and great detail!

Closely looking to the right hand side of the image, I see a lot of black dots. Might this be dust on your lens..?

    Best regards, Alex

  1. Beautiful mood and light - very picturesque!

However, I do agree with Slawek concerning the tree on the right hand side. If you cannot include it (meaning if this image hasn't been cropped from the right), I would suggest cropping it completely.

    Best regards,

    Alex

  2. Hi Alf, This one is nice, too, but personally I prefer "DRIZZLE", mostly because I think the boat could've been positioned slightly better here. (Of course this a purely hypothetical statement, since you weren't paddling and taking photographs at the same time...)

But why do I write this review here instead of commenting on DRIZZLE in the first place? Well ... because I wanted to ask you not to use green frames again. :-)

    Have a nice weekend!

    ALF:

Thank you for again sharing your valuable thoughts! I am really glad you identified a recurring theme throughout my work.

Concerning "brushed steel": Indeed, I am planning to print this one on brushed dibond ("butlerfinish"). This will be somewhen in the future, but as soon as I hold it in my hands, I will attach a photograph of it.

    PIERRE:

Wow! It means a lot to me hearing this from you. Thank you very much for your praise!

    JIM:

HA! Got it right ... ;-)

    ROLDAO:

Thank you. I am happy to see you like it.

    JIM:

I take this as a compliment. :-) Thank you!

    GERRY:

You implicitly raise an interesting philosophical question. Well, at least it was the human mind to come up with the formulas and the hands to feed it to a computer. In fact, one could also draw every single step on one's own - but in the end, the computer does a better, more efficient and much more precise job than I ever would. So why not use it...?

By the way, I like your assciation with "leading to infinity" - indeed, that's what I also had in mind when designing this picture.

Thanks a lot for your comment!

Taking about "leading to infinity", I attached a series of pictures to illustrate what we could discover when departing towards infinity.

It's been a while... I have been quite busy working on improving some of the drawing

algorithms, which in the end turned out to be much more subtle than I suspected:

Various geometric considerations and numerical optimization input was necessary to

keep runtime at a reasonable level. (Whatever 'reasonable' my refer to - this one, for

example, took my computer five hours to compute.)

    Looking forward to C&C!

  3. Hi Alf,

thanks for your reply. I guess it's just a matter of taste and perception. When directly comparing the two versions, the original appears to have quite some blueish color cast. Since I haven't been there, I tend to prefer a rather neutral color temperature.

I have been very busy the last weeks, but new pictures will be uploaded soon. Looking forward to reading your comments!

    Best regards,

    Alex

  4. Hi Alf,

I'm a little late here... I have already discovered this photo of yours some weeks ago, but didn't find the time to leave a comment. Much has been said so far and I only want to throw in that I also find it absolutely beautiful. Amongst your latest uploads, this one is definitely one of my favorites, although, if I had to choose, I would decide in favor of the white-snow-version.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Alex

  5. Thank you Eystein. I am glad you like it.

    Thanks Sergio!

Alf, thanks for your feedback. You're probably right about the transparency. I wasn't sure about it in the first place, but meanwhile I would also consider this a small minus. Thanks for pointing this out! By the way, I also see a planet. :-)

    Best regards,

    Alex

  6. Great picture with a nice mood. The sepia works very well for me.

What I like especially is that the left and middle part of the image appear sharp and are full of details, whereas at the right part some blurring effect can be observed, probably due to some fog. This adds a lot of interest, and together with the symmetry effeft, this is a really strong landscape.

    My sincere compliments Alf!

This one I like much better than the previous one. I like the slight paint-brush effect, making the image not looking too 'smooth'.

Same question again: How was it achieved? Is this based on an original photograph and has been post-processed heavily, or is it purely computational?

  7. The colors are a little cheesy ;-) but the overall picture works well for me. I especially like its simplicity and strict geometry.

I would guess that you have experimented with different choices of colorings. Why did you decide in favor of this one? (Don't get me wrong, as I said, the picture works very well for me. But it seems that there are a lot of choices which would work, and I am curious to find out why you chose this one.)

    Best regards,

    Alex

Very interesting composition and curves. The green tones fit very well. I like it as it is - however, above I tried a more abstract crop ... hope you like it. :-)

  8. Hi Eystein,

    it's been a while ...

another exceptional landscape shot. Compostion is very powerful and the tones are breath-taking. I really love those coast lines - they add a lot of interest. Altogether, a capture to be proud of!

Has this one been taken in Norway?

    Have a nice week-end!

    Alex
