  1. Folks, I have become a huge fan of photographer James Nachtwey and in watching his

show "War Photographer" I can't help but notice he nevers uses on a lense hood on his 16

    -35L or 24-70L.

I can understand they would be a hinderence in fast moving ect but it sures does not seem

to hurt his photo's at all.

I have never shot without a hood even indoors with flash in all these years so I am asking

those who have to express any opinions you have.

Thanks for your time and idea's. Take Care.

I had a young lady in the same situation as you who wanted to work with us but couldn't

    afford the time from work.

I suggested to her to find a friend with a wedding dress and play dress up to give her

practice. She did this indoors and out whenever possible and within 3 month's was

    producing some very good images.

I then hired her to help on a shoot when she could make it and she did a wonderful job

    and was confident.

Hope this might help you and remember shoot on the best and worst days in terms of

weather and light as you will for sure when doing weddings for real.

I do hundreds of horse photographs yearly and never once had a problem with flash.

Having said that I always spend 30 minutes with a horse whenever possible before hand to

let him get used to me, it is often you which will spook the horse other than the flash.

This makes the horse more comfortable and will get you a better photo opportunity.

  4. The D60 is a very good camera but does not have auto wb as good as your 20D or ettl 11

which is much better than the original version camera's.

Manualy wb and use manual mode for indoors and it will be fine.

The big thing with the D60 is to use the pre meter flash or fel lock and do not recompose

after focusing so better to use a point covering your subject.

  5. Folks I have been reading from leading phtographers and photoshop users that the correct

gamma for a mac computer [20" Apple LCD] is no longer 1.8 but 2.2.

Benefits being better contrast and shadow detail.

My question is to those who changed what does this do to previous work you have saved

and may need to reprint will corrections be required to older files?

Lab work is proccessed via srgb so I don't anticipate any problems there but at times

prints are made from a Canon i9900 which are from RGB 1998 files.

Appreciate any comments and advice. Take Care, Pete

I am so glad I looked at this post for a few reasons.

I have been a non paying member of photo.net since Jan/2001 and justified it to myself by

saying I help out in the forums ect. This site has provided me with thousands of dollars of

information and often better info than I was prepared to and did spend money on.

This info was most valuable as often it is real life info by working photographers with

    varied experiances in most situations.

I guess today it really hit me why I would use this and at times when I was in a panic and

not support it even when over the period of years when no one ever said hey Pete glad to

    help why don't you.

The short version is Thanks to all for your help, you have allowed me and helped me to

become the photographer I wanted to be when I joined the site and I appreciate it and

always hold it in the highest regard.

  7. Hi Bill

You can get the form through a CPS dealer.

You have to provide an equiptment list, recent copies of published work and reference

letters from at least 3 companies which have used your services.

The bulk of your earnings yearly must be made from photography but I believe there are

    exceptions made here.

The benefits are: Faster turn around time on repairs, loaner program and CPS pricing on

    pro gear.

There is no cost to you once approved.

  8. Sir,

When using a polarizer you cannot have the camera on auto white balance as the camera

works to rid the effect of the polarizer.

If you take the same photo with the polaizer on with A/W balance then change the preset

balance to sunny you will see the diference.

I tried 5 Sigma 24-70's and could not get one which was acceptable especially at 2.8.

The Canon 24-70L is excellent although heavy on a long day of trade show coverage.

I also have a Sigma 28-70 which is tack sharp at all apertures with color being very close

    to the Canon.

I recently aded a Tamron 28-75 for my backup camera and am nothing short of amazed in

its performance, tack sharp, color on par with my Canon 24-70.

If you are on a budget or need a backup the Tamron will be an excellent choice.
