1.
Hey guys,
Thanks for the ideas, this is what I came up with. Offer the brides a $500 Print Credit to use to buy albums, wall portraits, etc. This is on top of their normal wedding package with me. Thus my basic package is 750 so they could get an extra album for say mom and dad with their print credit. I will take a photo of my booth and post it tomorrow after the show.
PS: as soon as the snow melts my '67 Porsche is going to burn up these back country roads around here!

  2.
Have my first small town wedding expo coming up. I have six or seven large 20x30 prints from past weddings, a slide show from a wedding I might play in the back of my booth.
I was thinking of offering a FREE WEDDING contest to get brides names and email address for follow up down the road... but am open to other ideas my fellow photographers have used.
3.
I have been doing portrait orders via email, client says they want a portrait session that is one charge. Then they pick a package and email me a list of which photos they like, how many and I print and deliver. However, am thinking I should step up and get a order form that they can fill out and have a more formal looking (professional) order form to fill out with them when we look at photos.

Would love to see some samples of other order forms to get an idea of how to build mine. Thanks!
4.
I use Bigblackbag for my hosting at www.brianminson.com They charge a flat monthly fee, and you take care of the order fulfillment. I use PayPal to handle my credit card orders. I like them, only issue I have is that the BUY BUTTON is ADD TO CART .. wish I could change that.

I set my 50mm 1.8 at about 2.5 and have just learned where to shoot from (angles and etc) and learn to follow the action. You can't help but to get out of focus shots from time to time. Try and shoot as many games as you can, even go to other near by schools and just shoot shoot shoot.

  6.
UPDATE:
I took several of my best photos and put them on a 4x6 print along with my website and the heading ACTION PHOTOS. Walmart runs those 10 cent per 4x6 print specials so I had 50 made and had them on the ticket table at the last game. Saw a spike in my website hits the next few days... however no new sales :(
But talked to the local radio station that does the weekly games and they are doing to do this for me at $25.00 a game. 4 times during the live broadcast the play by play guy will say "Photos of tonights game are available at www dot my website name" Not sure how it will do, but looking forward to see how I do next week.
7.
I have a marketing and photography background, and my knowledge of accounting is keeping my personal checkbook balanced.
My question is this, I have a business checking account, and lets say it has $1000.00 in it. I want to buy a new Canon 7d, but since I don't have the $2,000 in my business account I was going to pay for the new camera out of my personal checking account.
How do I work this into my business accounting? Am using QuickBooks. Do I pay myself back monthly from the business account until its paid for? OR?
Couldn't find the answer anywhere else online, so I came back to my friends on Photo.net

  8.
Never shot baseball before, but you guys and gals know I have 16 years shooting. Hoping to learn from everyone some of the following things when it comes to high school baseball:

- Best places to shoot from
- Best shots ideas
- Any other bits of advice

Thanks guys,

  9.
David,
I worked in radio for about six years, I would suggest the following for you based just on radio advertising concepts.
- Don't buy a package of spots! Buy into a promotion. News reports, traffic, etc. With most promotions you get your 30 sec spots plus a ton of "this brought to you by David Dvir Photography" In advertising its TOMA (Top Of Mind Awareness) ie what is the first soft drink you think of.. Coke..Pepsi.. So the more times people hear your name just your name you gain TOMA in their minds.
- Offer have some value added to your ad campaign. Meaning more 30 sec spots in return for covering the radio stations events (photos of DJ's at a live remote, or etc) even to take photos of DJ's head shots for websites and etc. Maybe even work with the radio station to shoot contests winners etc. Like a trade for more advertising. But don't think you will get a 100% trade, its going to be "part of the deal"
Those are my two bits for you.
10.
Guys, am not a big flash user...but time has come for me to use one from time to time. Am not looking to spend more than say in the ball park of $100-120 for a flash for my Canon XTI 400D camera. Used mostly for weddings and portraits.

Am looking at the Bower SFD35C Digital TTL (Guide No. 112'/34m at 50mm) for the Canon E-TTL II. What do you guys think of this lens?

Or what other flash units would you recommend?

-Brian

  11.
Am looking at stepping up from my current 50mm 1.8 lens to either the 85mm 1.8 or the 100mm 2.0 Canon lens. I shoot alot of high school sports, so I wanted to get some feedback on which lens would be the best bet for me.

  12.
There are four local area high schools that I have been shooting at this year. While some of the parents know me, I would love to have more buying my photos.
Was thinking of having a black pull over sweet shirts made that said something like PHOTOGRAPHER or just my name in big block letters.
Wanted to get my other photographers ideas to help us self promote.

  13.
Am shooting high school basketball with my XTI and the 50 1.8 lens. I have it set a 2.8, 1600iso, 160 to 400 shutter and get about 40/60 of my shots coming out the way I want. The lens just isn't able to focus as fast as the more expensive ones are. Am buying a 7D in the summer which will help. The 7D have 19 AF spots, as our rebels only have 9 (if memory serves me correct.)

When I started would send in photos of the various events I was at, after a while the editor will notice you and either accept a few of your photos, or give you an assignment. Just keep the photos and PR coming into this Inbox!
15.
Matt,
I am here in the good ole USA :), I don't currently take credit cards, but use PayPal for most of my credit card transactions with customers.
I would prefer to print them via my choice of lab(s) and hand deliver the photos to clients as I do now.
Looking for a site that I can up load photos to, and clients can view them, click on which ones they want, pay via PayPal or even if the website host handled payements I will be cool with that. An email is sent to me with the order, I print and deliver!
Thanks man,
16.
Andrew,
Thanks for the tip on the Planet Neil site, and for the website tip as well. Used to adding it on all my posts on my non-photo fourms.
I know two wedding photographers here in town, both friends and both have agreed to let me be a second shooter at a wedding in April and May (friends is in August). One friend has asked me before to help him, but just didn't think I wanted to get into chasing brides down LOL
Just ordered the Bowen flash, along with a flash tripod, and will pick up xmtr to fire the flash this week. Will report back on some test shots.
17.
Am a big NON-FLASH guy! But I have several friends who are getting married and want me to shoot their wedding. So I need help on what type of Flash System to buy.
I will be using a Canon 400D and a Canon 5D body, my lens will be a 50mm Prime 1.8, and 70-300mm 5.6+
Looking at the Canon 580 flash, but need help on using it on a stand and using a radio unit to fire it with an umbrella.
Give me some direction.. please :)
18.
I hope this is acceptable to post here, if not my bad.
Was hoping to find someone who wanted to sell off their other ticket from the Imaging USA show coming up. Am a lone gun, and have not reason to buy the buddy pass. Can't seem to find a SINGLE ticket price anywhere. Any takers... go 50/50
