16.
Sounds like it needs to go in for repair.

 17.
It is true that the 50mm frameline in Leicas from the M6 on are too small. But the ones in older leicas, the M2, M3, M4, and M5 are a much better match for the area covered in the negative. This is also true of the early M4-P, before they started using the downsized frameline masks of the then-new M6.

 18.
Maybe Russia won a contract to make Leica batteries. Or else they bought a quantity of them. I see nothing wrong, either way.

 19.
I'm a wide-angle guy, and have the hassie wide-angle focal lengths 40mm, 50mm and 60mm. If I had to use just one, I'm pretty sure it would be the 50mm FLE for its versatility.

 20.
There is a gear in the film back that is advanced by a corresponding device in the camera body. When the gear in the back gets out of alignment, it will cause the back to be kicked away from the body by a small distance--just enough to produce a light leak. This means it is time to get a CLA done on the back. If any light seals need replacement, that can be done at the same time.

 21.
Well, not exactly a half frame camera. The M8.2 captures 75% of the width and height, or if you want to compare on the basis of area, then it's a 57% frame camera. That's .75 times .75. A little better than half frame; OK, not that much better, now that I did the numbers. I never thought about it in area terms before. But I wouldn't kick an M8.2 to the curb just for that, nor just because we can't crop in-camera!

 22.
Agreed, it's a factory conversion to IIIf. Just as a fun fact, there was a model IIId, which is a IIIc with self-timer.

 23.
Yes he is a repair person and he has CLA'd all three of my IIIcs. I can recommend him. Good news that he's back!

 24.
An M6 with the battery out is still no M2, because some of the M6 framelines are very undersized--notably the 50mm, and the 35mm is a little too small. OTOH, the M6 28mm frameline is good, and the the M2 has not even got a 28mm.
An early M4-P has the right size framelines, and does have a 28mm frameline. So an M4-P is worth considering.
