1.
Hi, not sure what category this question should go under; I was wondering if there is a notification somewhere in my workspace or via email for comments left about my whole portfolio.
I did a search of Photo.net and couldn't find any reference to this question, except one person who said there WASN'T a way to find out when someone leaves a comment on a portfolio. So as far as I know I need to keep checking the bottom of the portfolio page to see comments. With individual photos, comments are noted in my workspace - is there a similiar option for portfolio's, and I'm just not seeing it?
Ok, it's not a huge problem, but as people are starting to leave comments, I would prefer it if I could give them a timely thank you - just good manners I think!
So my question/suggestion is, is there a way to get automatic notice when a comment is left on my whole portfolio, and if so, where is it or how can I get it set up please?
Thanks very much! Anthea :)

 2.
Its Winter here in Australia, and more specifically, here in Brisbane, Queensland, the wind has started blowing in from the West, and that means one thing to Brisbanites – the Ekka is here! We even call it Ekka weather! Cool nights and early mornings (around 8 degrees Celsius) then warming up to around 24 degrees, beautiful clear blue skies, with those blustery western winds.

What’s the Ekka, I hear you say? It’s a nickname for our version of a State Fair I guess. It’s also called the Royal National Show, the RNA Show, The Exhibition, you get the idea. In Sydney, it’s held at Easter, so it’s known as the Royal Easter Show. This year’s theme is Q150 – Queensland’s 150th Anniversary. So I go every year, mainly for the Fine Art and Photography exhibits, but this year I decided to take my new digital camera (Oly E520) with my 14-42 mm lens, which I figured would cover most situations. I had a great time, it was the first time I ‘saw’ the Ekka through my photographer’s eyes. So I thought I would share some of the shots I took with my new friends on PN. Cheers, Anthea :)

 3.
So my partner and I are at home a few days ago, working on our respective computers (we’re both uni students), my partner’s workspace is in the front room, with windows facing the street so he has a wonderful view of the goings on in the outside world, mine is in the next room, with a window facing the garden that runs along the side of our small house. Suddenly he calls me and says to come and have a look at what’s going on in the street. I get up, walk over to the window where he’s standing and he points to the light pole over to the left. I take a look and see a most unusual sight, a Kookaburra is sitting right up on the top of the pole, and not only that, there are about six other birds of various kinds, but at least half the size of the Kookaburra on the wires running off the pole. What is amazing is that the smaller birds are taking turns attacking the Kooka! The Kooka is lunging back at them with his beak but keeping his position. Yet another bird swoops in and tries to hit the Kooka, and I realise what a great shot this would make (even though I’m worried about the poor Kooka) so I hurry back in my room to grab my camera, hastily I change the lens, since I have a brand new telephoto (40-150mm) that I think will allow me to not only see what’s going on with the birds, but hopefully also to grab a shot. I just get back to the window, put my hand out to open it so I can get my camera ready to focus when I see a four wheel drive coming up the street, making a loud engine noise as they do and POOF! The birds, including the Kooka, fly off in fright!

Missed it by that much……sigh…..maybe if I hadn’t stopped to change the lens!

I’m sure everyone has similar stories, and I’d like to hear them, just so I know I’m really not the only one that has missed such a brilliant opportunity….. :(
