  1. In living color...the tifosi. Giallo seems to be a dominant theme.
  2. Well, since we're here at Mugello let's look at some more local color! Tuscan hills not far from the circuit, Sunday morning...rain looked imminent but never arrived.
  3. Thanks Jim! If anyone here will be in Milan, Italy between now and July 16th and would like to see a fabulous collection of film images, head to Spazio Oberdan gallery in the Porto Nuovo district for the "Wow Gilles!" show. I stumbled upon this event after seeing handbills near my hotel! Photographer Ercole Colombo's work documents the life and career of the late (and legendary) Ferrari F-1 driver Gilles Villeneuve. I found it both moving and inspiring, a masterpiece of storytelling and fast-action photography from the pre-AF era. Well worth the €11 admission! Here's a link, too: Inagurata a Milano la mostra "Wow, Gilles" di Ercole Colombo If you cannot go they also sell a beautiful book!
  4. If you are passing through Milan between now and July 16th you can enjoy a very fine collection of vintage F-1 racing photos by Ercole Colombo of the late Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve at Spazio Oberdan in the Porto Nuovo district. It's still inspiring to see what talented photographers could do in the days before autofocus and digital! Here's a link to the show, in italiano: Inagurata a Milano la mostra "Wow, Gilles" di Ercole Colombo The gallery sells a book too, che fabuloso!
  5. Slightly out of sequence but just for fun, a Mugello hillside getting wound up for the race. Those folks are not enthusiastic or anything.
  6. If you're looking for these photos I have been posting them to Alex_Es' June Photo thread.
  7. The end of another day, May 21st. Tomorrow we disembark in Southampton. Sad, but Italy lies ahead, MotoGP at Mugello, and a return sailing aboard QM2! So chin up, eh?
  8. A face in the window: on watch at all times on the bridge is the lookout, a human being there to back up the other navigational aids. Most reassuring!
  9. Approaching the UK we begin to see other traffic, here's the container ship Montreal Express. Lemme check the EXIF data, er, uh, hmmm...well, I think the FD 300 / 4 L was used. It's the very rare breechlock edition, don'tcha know?
  10. Walking the promenade deck 7, inside the fairing below the bridge. If you look out the windows the spare propeller blades are right there, as is the ship's bow.
  11. They say six-pointed sunstars are boring. Could be, I dunno. But making them can be really fun, too.
  12. Chosing to take solely Canon FD gear and leaving the DSLRs at home enabled me to be a more deliberate and considered photographer. I did not so much live my vacation through a viewfinder! The idea raised some eyebrows amongst friends back home, that is for sure. Hundreds of miles at sea we'd still spot seabirds, usually skimming the waves in the distance but sometimes allowing themselves to catch a tow in the ship's large air wake. This one stayed with us for a long time, long enough for me to go back to the stateroom and grab the T90 and New FD 500 / 8! Maybe we will see more of him later on?
  13. Not art per se, not sculpture, but form following function: QM2 carries eight spare propeller blades on that forward section of deck 7.
  14. Deck 7 forward, aka the promenade deck. 3 laps equals 1.1 mile. New FD 14 / 2.8
  15. The next day, twenty plus knots and a lovely turquoise wake. Over the next week it's a familiar scene, one I never tire of. New F-1 and New FD 100 /2, same roll of film. 24 rolls of 36 were shot on this adventure.
  16. As the Verrazano Narrows bridge towers recede towards the horizon...sunset comes.
  17. An English wake? She was actually built in France but whatever.
  18. It's an exhilarating moment...just fantastic!
  19. This equipment is way too nice to stay home on a shelf. Field trip!
  20. Out the other side...next stop, Southampton!
  21. Yes we cleared it! Sorry 'bout the tilt.
  22. A few new friends watch our approach to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Red pants are a "thing" I guess?
