Finally I was able to go as far south as Cape Kiwanda down along the Oregon Coast. If you want to know the details on how did I make this photo please visit my blog Taming the light at www.jairophoto.com/blog/cape-kiwanda/

Quite a different photo from what I am used to seeing around from Coyote buttes. I guess the cold keeps most people away, but I can tell it was worth it! I tried to get permits last fall, but like most people there, no luck!

Never read the Pub(lic) Mar(ket) sign half way before. Natural light
helped create this "backlit" ad!
Any comments and critiques are very welcome!
Thanks

Wish first frame would match the other three, but these four shots were
not initially intended to be a matching series. The shilouettes of people
walking by got my attention. Scenes of the daily life!
Your comments a critiques are more than welcome

I like this composition very much, although I am not sure about the suggested cropping of the sky. I specially enjoy the asymmetric symmetry of the tree/bush line. Very eye catching!

I like very much the simplicity of the photo. It's a very nice color combination in my opinion.

Excellent capture, I love the crop so that a good piece of the impressive sky is shown. Very crisp and sharp image!
congratulations,

As far as I can see on my computer this little guy looks pretty sharp, so unless you wanted to get more of the scene in focus in front and behind the bird I think you did an outstanding job. I specially like the colors and shallow DOF.
What kind of light conditions did you have? It looks to me like you had some diffuse light (reflecting over the bird's beak and tree branches??), but the reflection on the bird's eye might be coming from a flash? How far where you from the bird? Well, too many questions!!

Thanks a lot for your positive feedback and your support.
Although I think this shot is not below average, when I request ratings and critiques I must assume somebody may think this should be rated 3, or lower. I just wish that this someone could explain why a 3, so I can learn something new that eventually will make a better amateur photographer. Am I being to naive thinking that this is the whole purpose of requesting critiques at PN? I hope not!
Thanks again!

This is from my first trip to Alaska. Found an array of colored kayaks at
the small harbor.
Thanks for comments and critiques!

Beautifully captured moment. I love the simple color palette. Is this a frozen lake? Cause it looks to me a little tilted to the right, but it might just be my wrong impression.
Congrats!

Another HDR that I attempt. It does not matter how early you get there,
there's always a tripod that got there earlier!
Comments, ratings and critiques are very welcomed.
Thanks!

thanks Zsolt for your contribution to the discussion.
You are right in that the lack of shadows gives both these pictures an unnatural feeling, but I intentionally posted the second "version" after posting the first HDR processed photo. I understand some people don't like HDR processing, as it gives this painterly touch to the picture. I personally don't like overprocessed HDR's, but as I am beginning to play with the HDR postprocessing I am quite not getting what I want, yet.
On the other hand I posted this second version as this is not an HDR. I shot this one using an ND grad filter (3 stops). Since one of the points in the previous discussion was that the light and colors in this photo looked artificial due to overprocessed HDR I just wanted to make the point that this was not the case, without having the prejudice of knowing wether this was an HDR or not before judging it.
Thanks again Zsolt for taking the time to discuss on this shot, as well as thanks again for the previous opinions posted on this photo. I appreciate all kinds of opinions, whether they get along with mine or not. This is what PN is all about!

Hi Svarna,
I think this photo could benefit from the use of ND grad filters in post processing to bring the brightness of the sky down a bit. After the photo has been taken you will not be able to recover the burned areas in the sky (lost detail) but you will be able to balance the expose between foreground and background a little better. Ideally I would have shot this scene with a ND grad on making sure that no highlights are blown. Or if you don't have ND grad filters you can take two exposures, one for the sky and one for the foreground and then easily blend them with the gradient tool in photoshop.
Hope this helps!
