1.
One of my close friends is an atty in NYC (thankfully) and he helped me out. The contract between the bride and primary photography permitted the primary's company to use the images for commercial purposes. I worked as a sub-contractor and also had additional documentation granting me permission to use the images as well.
Thanks to everyone for your help! I am relieved!

 2.
I'm relatively new on this forum and have posted several questions to try to improve my work and technique overall. One of the most important aspects for me was improving my flash photography technique. Every person I'd ask or thread I'd read would directly me to Planet Neil over the last two years. The information he provides has been the foundation for my early education. I read a review from Marvin Israel here... among many other glowing reviews about the outstanding workshop they attended with Neil van Niekerk.

I spent the day with Neil at his studio in NJ learning flash techniques and we applied them nearby at Lamberts Castle. I gained practical experience of blending flash and ambient light in and outdoors. His flash workshop should be a MANDATORY workshop for everyone. He truly loves what he does and went above and beyond to ensure that I understood everything he taught me.

When I arrived, he reviewed several flash principles in detail, spending additional time on aspects that I wanted clarification on. As I applied the techniques throughout the day he guided me and took great care to ensure that I achieved the desired result. Neil would look in my viewfinder and confirm my results, make suggestions and I’d apply the changes. I photographed a model in his studio under different lighting conditions.I used a video light, softbox, on and off camera flash. I learned the use of gels to balance flash with the ambient light. We controlled flash manually and automatically... had exercises using the histogram to meter. There were no questions unanswered and I didn't hesitate to ask him to explain it further if I was unsure.

I drove home this evening filled with inspiration… recounting my experiences today. There were so many glowing reviews online for his workshop and they were indeed correct.

I wanted to post this on the education forum, because I want everyone to have the benefit of meeting Neil. Whether you live on the East or West Coast, hop in a car, take a train or get on a plane because he is truly the best!
3.
Thank you Raymond. It was my belief that since my contract was with the primary and I satisfied the terms of the contract that I had done everything I should. I did not sign the contract with the primary and the bride. I had a separate contract with the primary.

Thanks everyone!

 4.
Hi everyone,
I was hired as a 2nd shooter at a wedding in September 2009 and was paid a fee to upload my edited images on flickr for the bride. I was given permission by the photographer to use these images in my portfolio: both online and print. The photographer was very happy with my help and hired me for two more events in October 2009 and November 2009 all of which I was given permission to use the images in my portfolio and paid a fee to 2nd shoot.
In December, 2009, the bride emailed me directly and requested a copy of the dvd with full ownership. Since she wanted ownership (which was not part of our originally contract), I suggested a she purchase the dvd for a fee of $300 for full ownership. I was surprised that the photographer had her client contact me directly, but replied to the bride with permission from the photographer first. I never heard back from the bride via email.
I was told by the photographer several weeks later (when I got out of the hospital*) who booked this wedding and hired me that the bride wanted this CD for free and was considering legal action. I immediately mailed the CD to the photographer. It has come to my attention that this photographer failed to provide the CD to the bride and now I received a letter that I'm being sued under my business (and her business). The photographer had told me several times, that she wanted to get paid for this CD of extra images. I didnt want to get sued so I told the photographer the bride could have full ownership for free because it seemed there was a miscommunication. I'm afraid the photographer held on to this CD to try to obtain extra money on my behalf. Naturally, I'm upset that she never provided the bride with my cd.
I contacted the photographer and she became quite upset and apologized to me profusely for holding on to this CD. I'm not sure what to do to protect myself legally.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
*In the month of January, I was hospitalized and in pre-term labor at just 32 weeks pregnant. They kept me in the hospital for 2 weeks and I spent the entire month of January there. My daughter had some health issues and we stayed in the hospital for quite some time. When I was finally home and getting settled in February, the photographer told me the issue with the bride. I responded and thought this was no longer an issue until today when I received this letter from the attorney for the bride.

 6.
1)Here's an awesome website with lots of great options for the bridal show http://www.displayit.com they also have easels too.
2) I dont think gift bags are necessary.
3) 3+ albums in a variety of sizes are good to have. I've been to shows were photographers had 3 albums up to 8 albums (variety of sizes and purposes like an engagement album, guest sign in book and wedding albums, parent albums).
7.
Thanks again everyone and David for posting the video and photos. I appreciate your continual help this week. I am excited for the wedding tomorrow! I do feel much better prepared. I have the book understanding exposure, but apparently I need to read it a 3rd, 4th and 5th time. I'll post pictures this weekend after my wedding tomorrow. THANK YOU all!

 8.
I dont meter to be honest, I keep in on evaluative. I need to read a bit more on this to have a better understanding. I didnt know there was a general/preferred meter in sunlight. Thank you for letting me know. It was 5pm in bright sunlight. I'm clearly overexposed... wow! I am really glad everyone looked over my images so closely. Next wedding i'm the primary photographer and I want to do an awesome job (though its a free gig).
Thanks Nadine!!!

 9.
William - Thank you for your recommendations. I used evaluative metering at the wedding. Would center-weighted be better? I havent experimented with each mode enough to be able to judge (which is a problem). I was told no flash inside the church during the ceremony. Our intention was to take formal pictures inside the church if we were allowed after the ceremony concluded. 1b, I wouldnt know what metering mode to use - if i'm being honest with you and myself. I'm going to google metering... Thanks William!
C Jo 10 shots seems incredibly low, but I certainly dont have your level of experience. I know when I see album and proofs, that 10 shots is more than enough. When you put it that way, it does make sense. Thanks C Jo

 10.
I used lightroom, brought the exposure down, slid recovery and slid the highlights bar. I added fill light on one of them. Added contrast too.
Here are the image specifications (all manual with my 50d, 16-35):
1. #1387 f2.8, 250 iso 160
2.#1452 f8, 500, iso 640
3.#1457 f8, 500 iso 640
4.#1459 f8, 500 iso 640

 11.
***new pictures***
Hi everyone - I just posted 4 images which were commented on for blown highlights as you can see there wasnt much success recovering the lost detail. Some, but not much... You can see them online at www.princess-pictures.com Client Photos, Weddings "PDN edits" password exposure
If you have any add'l suggestions to recover the highlights, I'd welcome them. This is my attempt...
12.
This has been and continues to be very helpful. Having multiple responses is helping me have a greater understanding as I head to my next shoot on Friday. I will continue to reread your posts to ensure I have as much information as possible to benefit me at the next wedding. Again, thank you all!
