Hey Jeff, I'd love to see that photo, can you attach it please? Thanks

After long years without developing, I finally returned to the darkroom...what a thrill! I read a lot of posts here at photo.net so I could learn some of the precious tips and tricks!
Still, some things could go better and I'd like to ask for some help. Let me take you through my process:
Kodak Tri-x pushed to 1600 (I had to, there wasn't much light in the room where the pictures were taken) developed in Rodinal 1+50, 18m30s (inversion every 30s for the first 10m, every minute for the rest of it) at 20º, Ilfostop for 30s and Agefix Plus (1+5) for 5 minutes. I washed it for 20m and then dipped the negatives in Agepon for 30s.
THE GOOD NEWS:
1. Flawless negatives, no marks, no drying dots.
2. Amazing grain, I guess it's the Rodinal effect.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS:
1. Too much contrast. I have a lot of blacks and whites, but the grey area is not that interesting. I wonder if I over-developed it? I couldn't find a time table for Rodinal and Kodak Tri-X (someone wrote that it was published on the kodak site but I couldn't find it...does anyone have a link to Rodinal developing times?) so I just followed the time on the macodirect.de site. Any opinions on this? How do I get more grey out of this?
2. Yes, the grain is amazing, but in some pictures it seems too much. Are there better combinations for pushing Kodak Tri-x?
Thank you all!

Hi everyone!
I just went back to film and to the darkroom and I was wondering if Rodinal is still in production, I haven't found any of it here in Portugal. If it still exists, does someone knows where I could get it through an online european store?
Thanks

Hi there!
I've gone back to film and shooting with my leica m7 and medium format cameras, but it's getting hard to find film in my country (Portugal). Does anybody know of an online store that sells film in europe?

Thanks

Nikon Coolscan 9000 conversion to USB3 and Windows 8
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing

Hi there!

I'm in the process of buying a new computer (I own a Toshiba Qosmio X-500, but it's not working that well anymore since it fell to the ground) and I'm willing to keep up with the brand, since it's such an amazing PC. Right now, the new Qosmio (870) doesn't have a Firewire connection, which is troubling to my set up.
I have a Nikon Coolscan 9000ED and I use it a lot. The new Qosmios don't have a Firewire connection and they come with the new operating system Windows 8.

Is there by any chance a way of converting USB3 to Firewire? And does Windows 8 has drivers to support this scanner and its software?

I don't want to buy a computer that won't work with the scanner, since it's one of the nr 1 tasks I use it for. Can anybody help me on this?

Thank you!
