  1. I arrived at Fort Order in early September 1963. . spent 4 nights in those drafty & cold wooden structures. Got lucky & did the rest of basic from one of the concrete monsters up on The Hill. Aloha, Bill

But, Bill they were air conditioned as I remember ( could be wrong, long ago). Had to drink Vodka till daybreak with Drill sargent Taylor and look at his EAR collection. That man was f_____ up. 3 tours in Nam. Those were the days.

  2. First roll of film from my Leica M6/Voightlander 35mm f2.5 lens and Kodak UltraMax400. The camera is a gift from my oldest son. The photo is of some old Army Barracks Fort Ord Ca. which is now CSUMB (Monterey). I did basic there back in 67.

I did basic and AIT Jan-June 1967 H-1-3 sure looks run down.

  3. My wife and I were at a local restaurant a few nights ago when a young man came to take our order. He had some tattoos that were on his arm that had a Japanese look to them. He was fresh out of the USN and is here at Richmond KY attending Eastern Kentucky University. He wants a degree in photography, we talked and he said he needed a camera but he couldn't find any for sale in our area. My loving wife said " my husband has all of the cameras". He is interested in basic 35mm no frills. I thought about it and I told him I would come up with an outfit for $40.00 for him next Saturday. I sold it cheap with photographers handbook, lens, etc. My reason to sell is it is not a gift, it is an investment for both of us. My hometown is 32,000 people plus 17,000+ at EKU. I took him a choice of Canon AE-1 program and Pentax ME both with lens. When digital took hold film cameras lost value and I stocked up on great gear. I would like to see more young people be interested in photography. EKU has a lot of vets here since Vietnam and is quite popular.

Anyhow, if you have a working camera that you will sell to these young folks cheap, you will feel good. I did. The look in his eyes as he looked the camera over told me alot. Talk to your young waiter or waitress next chance and see what they are preparing for in life and maybe you may be interested in helping him or her. I feel good.:)

  4. This is an appealing camera, but they are not too rare... get a complete one. The Skopar may be interchangeable with other series of similar vintage. Perhaps the Vito B or any other models sharing this lens/shutter. I really like the Vito II. Elegant.

well I lucked out and bargained for a parts camera that is pristine except film advance is jammed due to dropping. Served my purpose well. When the rain stops I will take it out again. Keep shooting.

  5. Hi, I became a little excited when I saw this pristine Agfa Solinette II and a week later was cleaning the camera and noticed the aperture control lever is missing. Do you have a spare or seller of parts for this model? Would the aperture lever from an Ansco Regent work favorably ? Any help at all would be wonderfull.

A great view and one of my favorites. Cades cove is a treasure in the fall. I like your work.
