  1. Dave,  Thanks for providing the "detailed" explanations.   I looked at your portfolio and understand your need to have the  HDR solution for moving components.  I like your workaround.  I have never experimented with Photomatrix but I have faced the similar challenge of loosing EXIF information with Photoshop when I launch it from Lightroom for combining multiple photos.

You have a diverse portfolio and some real good shots.  Keep up the good work.

And yes, I have no more questions J.  Regards!

  2. Johanna,  Gorgeous shot.  A natural take with an original expression.  Thanks for sharing your Africa stories.

Mike & Grayham,  I think Mike might be referring to the recent episode of the Ohio private zoo.  It was sad to see the photographs of dead bodies of those elegant animals.   I fully support Mike’s position. Regards!

  3. Colin,  Congratulations on the good shot.  I would guess at 200 zoom, you must have been fairly close to the animal.  Image is very sharp and you got a good composition.  The only recommendation I have for the photograph is to increase the exposure by one or two f stops or adjust brightness during development.  Cropping to provide a closer composition might also help.  Attached is my effort in making these improvements.

Mr. Oarsman,  This is a very interesting image. It is hard to believe you got such sharp colors and shapes in a reflection.  In the attached update, I have tried cropping off the overexposed portion on the right and the distorted wood pillar on the left to balance the image.

  4. Dave,  Beautiful colors and details in sand.  I really like the transition from orange/brown to the grey/blue as you move eyes diagonally.  You mentioned using HDR for this image but more detail on HDR and shutter and aperture settings would help.

    Heaven's rays!

    Kallol,

This is a perfect moment captured in a beautiful way.  It reminds me of sun first rays after solar eclipse and the silver line in the cloud and the way light rays are diffracting in this picture is making it even more interesting.  I am wondering if you had time to plan the aperture and exposure time for such a shot but in anycase, it has come together very well.

    a deer portrait

Hem,  This is a good composition with the deer off center. You have also captured the animal's golden color n right light.  I wonder if using the depth of field to show the fall leaves behind might also look good in this composition.

Ramesh,  Good picture but I agree with some other comments that cropping the picture will help keep the focus on the elephants motion and the color palette.  i have tried cropping it to illustrate.

    Reflection

Thank you Tracy.  I agree more light on the trees would have been nice but it is hard to capture a good reflection after sun is up. Adding fill light in Lightroom makes the picture very grainy and kills the mood.  Thanks for your recommendation though. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the kind comments Mike. This picture was shot on Canon 5d MII using Canon EF 17-40 F/4USM lens at 22mm focal length, 100 ISO and 1/500 sec at f/5.6 aperture.

I need to figure how to auto upload all these details to photo.net.

    Thanks!

  5. Leo, This is one of the best pictures I have come across of Bryce hoodos.  You have captured the depth of field very well with beautiful colors.  I am interested to know what season and lighting condition you took this photograph in. Nice capture.

Simply beautiful shot.  I read your comments on how you isolated the tree from the surroundings to get the tree with mist.  Great shot worthy of 7/7.
