On my monitor it looks fine - the deepening of the shadows allows for the focus on the cute eyebrows and the side of the face. The control seems ot be there as the head/shoulder mergers gradualy with the deeper shadows. Interesting and a touch unusal today - think this was a style popular in the era of clasical lighting with tungsten lights.

nice dog !!
I think you need to get to eye level with your dog; the angle is a little too high still. A little more light is need to allow us to see the eyes !! If you could get a angle that allows u to see both eyes and light it so that the eyese are clear and visible to the extent you can see the eyes and it glows with inner light you would have a really super shot. Not the esaiest of subjects - pets and kids.

Wayne,
Suggest your relook at what is your subject - if it is to whole group then the focus is out - your most prominent foreground is out of focused - it is not motion blur, the realatively clutter background is in focus. Placement of each and every person in the shot is everything. If it does not look right visual refrain from clickly because it will mostly look a lot worse on careful examination. That's why these shots are difficult - suggest you need to spend time just seeing the dance to understand its tempo and pace before actually shooitng.
