1.
I am one of these annoying people who just scratch the surface of the Manual and then post questions about things I should have gleaned from said Manual.
However in this case I learnt something the other day about these cameras, which may apply to other cameras as well and I thought it worth mentioning.
I always wondered why there is to 'T' setting.....open the shutter with one click and close it with the second. It seemed frustrating to have to rig up some sort of cable release to keep the shutter open for a 2 minute exposure or whatever and I wondered why Sony left this useful little feature off; but of course they didn't !
It will make this all worthwhile if one reader didn't know this...turn the shutter speed dial to Bulb and set the shooting mode to Remote, and with your £5 remote trigger you will be able to take pictures with as long an exposure as you want...one click to open the shutter and a second to close it...10 seconds, 27 seconds, 56 seconds or 5 minutes.
I fully intend to read more in future.

Andy.

 2.
Back in 1970 or so I was working on the Black Isle in Scotland and coming out of the pub at 'chucking out time' on a dark and stormy night I was offered 2 Nikon F bodies with metering heads and 3 or 4 lenses for £90 I think it was . They looked far too complicated and I turned down the offer! They weren't stolen or anything; they belonged to a guy working at Nigg Bay with me who needed some ready money.
I went to Edinburgh a bit later on and bought a Praktica and standard lens.
Strange as it may seem, I have no regrets about turning those Nikons down as I really liked the Praktica, and to this day I think it took some of my best shots.
Now I have 3 old Fs and an F2 as well as digital stuff, but still have never really recaptured the feelings of achievement of those early shots I took; and now, of course, both negs and prints are long gone and many cameras have flowed under the bridge in the search for unattainable artistic perfection. Some vain hope, but I do still love the idea of photography, even though I'm still rubbish at it.

 3.
Best to be very careful with the UV..I would suggest some proper Glasses. I think I read any damage can be permanent; it has now been 40 years since I did any old processes needing UV light.
In fact it seems somewhat irresponsible to be offering a process requiring UV lights to people and coming here for non-professional advice. The visitors may well assume you know more than you do.
Why not tell everyone it's a lot more exciting to expose the prints under sunlight as it used to be done, then no safety worries.
Andy.

 4.
No, not any more! I only had old ones as it was and traded them all in for a Contax S2 (spot metering); now there was a bad camera and a bad company to try to deal with, so I'm very glad that's gone.
Leica lust has been replaced with three Fs and an F2 resting quietly, I'm ashamed to say, in their cases and the Nex 6 and 7 have taken their lenses.

 5.
Hi,
That was my understanding as well, but Capture One installs itself and then starts to install the .NET Framework but stops after a few seconds and just says it's installing it, but nothing is happening! Perhaps I should restart with a new d/l of Capture One.
Strangely enough I found a site/ blog that shows the path to the .Net business.and this computer showed some old installations 3.0 and 3.5, but which were both only partially there, without the .NET part. Very odd. I am going to try an off-line installation of .NET and see how/if that works!

 6.
Hi,
Thank you for the response.
I will feel an even luckier Sony user if I can sort the Program out....!
The computer runs 8.1, but the .NET framework is not shown on the Add/ Remove list and it will not install either....:-(
I'll sign up to the Forum over there . Thanks again.

 7.
Hi,
I think I've already done all that, and I was hoping to get hold of some info from someone who had gone down the same road !

 8.
I use the Sony RAW converter, but I read about this one on the Sony site and downloaded it. However it proved impossible to set up as it needs to install the NET Framework as well and the program seems incapable of finding it's own instruction manual on how this might be done and so goes into a form of contemplative silence.
I hesitate to say 'sleep', as it might be doing something, but whatever that might be, it's not getting the program installed.
I have tried MS itself for many really unhelpful pages of computer babble, and when I finally found a site to d/l it from without installing 78 more toolbars, it told me it was already on the computer and stopped!
The Capture program won't install without the other part and so is useless at present, but I would like to try it and so I'm looking for assistance.
Thank you.
Andy.

 9.
Hi,
Can you focus manually with the camera?
I've been looking at the pics enlarged and I'm hard pressed to find any lack of focus effort on the part of the camera, but certainly what looks like shake, or perhaps it's very shallow DoF.
You should post some straight on pics when the DoF might not matter so much as regards focus, but these oblique shots are very difficult for the camera to get a grip on where to focus I would imagine.
Is the camera focusing on the mirror glass itself, for instance?
In the cat picture the lettering is not focussed but the metal column to the right of the sign is a bit better focussed, but again, the oblique nature of the shot at a small aperture makes it tough for the camera to choose a spot to go for.
In the PO box shot, the enamelled plate is fairly sharp, as are the crown areas both sides of the box, whereas the front of the curve above the letter slot is not at all sharp. Perhaps the camera is focusing 3 or 4 inches behind where you think it's focusing?
Andy.

 10.
Nex 7, 30mm Sigma
Back of sign reads 'Shut the gate, please'

 11.
I use pre-AI Nikkors on my Nexs' and Grays of Westminster in London have quite a few 35mms it seems, including some PC ones for reasonable prices. There are so many of all makes and it's what you like the look of though!

 12.
Hi,
My Nex 6 downloads RAW files to a Sony program called 'Image Data Converter' which is basic I think, (I'm pretty sure it comes on the disc) but it does allow some changes, but not stacking...I guess for that you have to buy something!

 13.
Hi,
I have an SRB adapter for my Nikkors to the Nex 6 and I wouldn't spend no $400 on an adapter! And I don't like e-bay either...but SRB now, there's a great company....
enquiries/at/srb-griturn.com {change the /at/ for @}
Andy.

 14.
I have old Nikons and Nikkor lenses and a Nex 6. The Nikkor lenses go on that with an adapter (£30) and work perfectly well, although as mine are old lenses there is no autofocus! However the future has arrived with the A7 11 with IBIS, so don't do anything too hasty and get rid of your lenses before seeing what else Sony has coming down the pipeline. Maybe an a6000 mirrorless with IBIS or similar!

 15.
I have 3 Sigma lenses for the Nex 6...have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick in thinking these will work on the A7II? If they do will they become 35mm focal length equivalent? And my old Nikkors as well? It's like a new dawn!

 16.
The link from Michael Chang implies that manual lenses, as they are not transmitting info to the camera, may oblige the camera to operate in a kind of default/generic mode as it won't know the focal length or aperture of that lens. But it certainly seems a mightily impressive piece of kit.

 17.
Memory stirrer of the Royal Enfield showroom! I always thought, and still do perhaps, the Bullet is a beauty and the Constellation the most magnificent of all. Back in the day when the wind could blow my hair into my eyes-before we were obliged to wear helmets- I had a 350 Bullet and a 250 Crusader, but now I have neither hair nor motorcycles!

Thanks for posting and it's good to think Enfield are going from strength to strength.

 18.
In fact, having checked on the Sony website, the update may not be compatible with 8.1 yet, which seems quite late in the day!

 19.
Hi,
I bought a 2nd hand 3 (version 01) and have just seen that there is an update from 2011 to take this to version 05 which I d/loaded but the computer does not recognise the link...even though I can d/load images to the computer . Do I need to download all the previous updates to this, or am I just being a bit thick ?
I have updated my 6 so it is possible on this Win 8.1 computer.
Thanks for any advice.
Andy.

 20.
SRB Photographic do adaptors, but they don't show one for screw mount Leicas; however they would make you one if you ask! They're a nice firm and pleasant to use.
enquiriesatsrb-griturn.com Change the at for @

Andy

 21.
Hi,
I have a few non-AI lenses I use with an SRB adapter and I think if I was using a Minolta or an Olympus or whatever I would just get an adapter for those lenses, as I would imagine they are all as good as each other...solidly made, beautiful weight, wonderful optical quality.
Andy.

 22.
Mum's hands and new Laptop

 23.
Our tutor at college was Euan Duff and he always advocated using the standard lens. It has taken me 40 years to really begin to see how right he is. The standard lens forces you to check what you have in the frame and it's composition. .......personal opinion, of course!

I've owned screw (111a and 111c) and bayonet (M2) Leicas and was quite glad to pass them on. The viewfinders on the screw ones were very small and I found fiddly to use. I never really got used to them I guess, but they are beautiful cameras. Peter Dechert thinks the last of the bottom loading Canons to be the best of all, so they might be worth taking a look at.

 24.
Hi,
Being a bit harsh on Brian here; reading his post, he's young..maybe never seen a film camera as wierd as the Leica, never heard of Butkus, never had to think how it's done until today...and he posts his question and gets flamed and called a brainless novice! Tough love indeed.
Well I have to say I stand with Brian as just another brainless novice in the operation of my Nex 6.
Andy.

 25.
Hi,
I have an SRB/Griturn Nikon F to Nex adapter (lenses to Body) and that seems to do the job. Cost about £30. There is another thread covering adapters in the Mirrorless section.
