The baddest Mustang on the planet. Qualified #1 at 490.8MPH. Finished 2nd in the Gold after being hit with a 16 second penalty for cutting a pylon.
-
From the Sanders family stable of racers, Argonaut, qualified at 412.3MPH, finished 4th in the Silver at just under 400MPH.

PM in action from the valley of speed between pylons 6 & 7 at Reno.

German Air Force F-4 based out of Holloman AFB, flying a demo at this years Reno Air Races.

P-51 powered by a Rolls Royce Griffon from a Shackelton bomber, qualified this year at 405.5MPH. Finished 3rd in the Silver race at 407.9MPH.
-
A little wingtip art from the Al Goss's Gold winning T-6 from this year at Reno. The final was won with a record speed of 238.1MPH, and a lap at over 240MPH was flown during the race.

Real, real nice, the dark sky really brings out the prop tips.
-
This is sweet, a hard to get angle, with a very cooperative pilot!!
-
Martin, it all depends on what show you attend as to how close you can get. This was taken at EAA Oshkosh. With very few exceptions you can walk right up next to any airplane on the field. Just don't touch it!! I did get a few strange glances as I ducked under wing tips to take photos, but I always made sure I did not touch the airplane.
-
If I remember right this is real close to full frame. There were some trucks in the background I was working hard to not get in the picture.
-
No I don't mind. Even though I violate the rule, I kind of like them in the middle of the frame.
-
More crop?? I thought I was already pushing the crop limit on this one. It is cropped pretty good already.
-
Did not get to crazy with clone tool here. I just worried about getting the noise cleaned up. As for getting shots down track, they are limited to the first couple hundred feet. After that the cars are just going to fast, and you could get seriously hurt if someting goes wrong. There are seats at the finish line at some tracks, and I have seen some shots from there. It's kind of hard to be creative shooting drag racing. I can't play around like I can at Road America.

Sorry for the delay, for some reason I was not notified of comments. As for the metering I used evaluative, and AWB.

Nice, two rare birds indeed. It really is remarkable to see how narrow the F7F is in person.
-
It is nice clear photo, but are you sure you did not use the shadow/highlight adjustment in PS. I ask because there is a distinct halo around the plane from going to far in the adjustment.
-
Thanks, I never really thought about that. I have never even bought a flash for my camera, since I shoot almost 100% outdoors and in the sun.
-
No expert here on people stuff, or candids. This is J.J. Lehto being
interviewed after the clinching victory at Road America. Good, bad,
suggestions??

Actually this is not cropped at all. This is straight out of the camera. I would be lying if I said just getting part of the tire was what I was aiming for. The cars appear out of nowhere so fast at turn 6, that you barely have time to do a very quick pan, and squeeze a shot off. I took a bunch, and this was one of the good ones.

This is a great shot, too bad the scanner could not pull out the detail. It just looks too overexsposed now.
-
Just a tight shot from turn 6 of the winning GTS Corvette. Taken with the 100-400L. For those who say it is soft at 400mm, I beg to differ. Can it do detail in bird feathers at 400mm, maybe not, but for auto racing, and airshow photography it works just fine.
-
The king, I wish, this was at Canada corner and I was using the converter also, so this is MF to a spot on the track, and shoot and prey you caught it at the right time.
-
Yes this was inside of turn 6. I got lucky, many, many came out blurry. You don't have much time to track the car as they appear on the top of the hill.
-
This is a nice try, because many racing rain shots look fantastic. This is just too blurry.
