  1. A610 vs. SD400, Canon:

These two cameras are similarly priced - Both fit most of my criteria,

    it being:

    1. 5 MPS

    2. Within 300

    3. Light weight

    4. Compact

    5. Different creative modes (very important)

    6. Suitable for different skill levels

    7. And, finally, I am partial to Canon

So, which one do I choose - the a610 is slightly cheaper, but the

sd400 is lighter - so, help guys

  2. Hi

I'm presently using a EOS Elan IIe - will graduate to a DSLR

sometime in the near future - should I wait till all the Focal

length multipliers become 1, if u know what I mean? Please advise

PS: Am really tempted to go with a dig. Rebel xt!

  3. Hi Bill

I left out that part - I was shooting 90d to the sun - it was a sunny day and I still didn't seem to detect any changes as I turned the pol'zer - so, the question stands " first, should I compensate for the filter with a different f stop? or second, is there only minimal change with the combination of equipments I described above?"

  4. Hi

Blue label Hoya crcular polarizer filter for a canon EOS ElanII e

    and a 20-35 lens - 77 mm - the sky was washed out and I couldn't

find noticable difference when I look thru' the viewfinder and

rotate the polarizer - first, should I compensatee for the filter

with a different f stop? or second, is there only minimal change

with the combination of equipments I described above?

  5. Hi everyone

Thanks for ur inputs - it is clear to me now the difference between stopping down and under exposing. But, one thing that is not clear to me is:

going back to the same example- lets assume f16 @ 1/90 gives proper exposure. For that setting stopping down would be f19 @ whatever. If u were to start at f19, and the camera gives a 1/60 for shutter speed, stopping down for that setting would be f22 at whatever! the second situation is a two stops down from f16! I'm not trying to confuse myself here, but only keen on understanding the meaning of stopping down and its significance when one talks about it.

Hope I made myself clear - am open to any explanation.

  6. Basics - when I change my f stop, I do it to either gain depth of

field (f22) or blur the background (f4)- and I leave the shutter

speed to the camera to get a decent exposure.

So, lets say I shoot at f16 and the shutter speed turns out to be

1/90 sec. If I were to change the f to 19 and leave the shutter

speed at 1/90 sec. in the manual mode, would that be considered

    stopping down?

    or

when I change to f19, would it be considered stopping down if I were

to leave the shutter speed to the camera?

    thanks

  7. Hi Folks

    I am posting for a co-worker here - he has a Canon A1 and 3-4 lenses

    for it

1 - he wants to know if current lenses can be used on Canon A1 and

2 - whether his lenses can be used in present day bodies

    Thanks

  8. Hi Folks

I was looking for a slide scanner with more than 3000dpi resolution -

but found out they were pretty pricey! I know that flat bed

scanners with slide adapters might not do a good job - but if I

don''t have a choice - does anyone know about the quality of scans

from a "Canon CanoScan 4200F, 3200x6400 dpi, Letter Size, Flatbed

Scanner" which has an inbuilt slide scanning adapter?? I am mainly

concerned about the quality of slide scanning. Any user input

appreciated - or, doesanyone know of a better scanner in this range?

    Thanks in advance

  9. I just bought the Slik pro 700DX - I am 6'-2" tall - and I don't have to bend down even a lil bit to look at the viewfinder (without the centerpost extension!!)- Maximum Height 74.8" (190.0 cm) (without centerpost extension)- it is sturdy and was in my price range and its my first tripod - I love it - if u r bent on spending the extra cash - look at Bogen stuff - their tall ones start at somewhere the $200+ range, if I am right - good luck tripod hunting!

  10. Hi

I own a Canon EOS Elan IIe and two lenses - Canon 28-80mm and Canon

20-35mm. I plan to buy a 70-200 f/4L in the future. If I plan to

switch to a DSLR later, can I use these lenses in the DSLR? or is it

a case of lose it if u leave for digital?

    Thanks in advance

    Arun.

  11. Lets back up for a second - I am in the process of buying a tripod - almost decided on the Slik Pro 700dx based on price, height and stability - I presently own a EOS ElanIIe body and the standard issue lens (28-80) and a wide angle (20-35) lens. I intend to buy a Canon 70-200 f/4L in the near future - now, since I don't own a tripod yet - can u be specific as to where the "Tripod Mount Ring A for 70-200mm f/4L" would be added on? Would it be between the body and the lens? Am sorry if it sounds too basic - photo.net is my biggest source of education! Any explanation in this regard would be much appreciated

  12. Thinking of getting the Slik Pro 700DX Tripod - almost decided based on price, strength and height - all based on reviews - don't have the luxury to go see it - what do ya guys think about the Slik tripod? Any thoughts appreciated.
