I always wondered how much better (if any) are the 5,2 MP (larger pixels) of D700 compared to 6 MP pf a APS size 6MP sensor?
Will the 5,2 MP of D700 give me larger pictures and more detail than the 6MP DX sensor ?
Can anybody help me in this issue ?

The 5MP DX copping of D700 really bugs me...
Are the 5MP of D700 the same 5MP that I get with the D300 (I understand that the D700 pixels are much larger...) ? Are they the same in terms of resolution?
Is there any equivalency rule to those different DX formats (APS size) with different resolutions (5MP of D700 vs 12MP of D300) ???

I am about to buy a Camcorder (Canon HF11) and I was planning to get a Kingstone Class 4 32 Gb SDHC card with it.
I heard from the dealer that video SDHC cards are the most appropriate (although they are also Class 4 I think), but there are no 32 Gb cards (no more than 16 Gb).
Is there any real gain in "video SDHC" cards over a 32Gb Class 4 SDHC card or it it just marketing ??
Can anybody help me in this issue.

Thanks for all the inputs guys.
I think I might go for an u/w case for my small sized Canon G10. It has basically all the functions I could expect from a DSLR, except for the size of the pixels, but that's another story.
Besides it has a very good quality 28-140mm zoom with a f/2.8 aperture at 28mm and it shots RAW.
How about that?

Never thought about the 36 frames issue... it really poses a problem indead.
Thanks Shun.

I am considering buying an underwater camera or a case for one of my cameras and a friend offered me a Nikonos V in very good shape with lens and the external flash for around U$ 700 (that the average price where I live).
I already have a Nikon D300 (I have no intention to dive with it), a Canon G10 and a Canon Powershot SD1100IS.
I understand that Nikonos cameras are exellent but beeing it an analogic camera, I'm kinda reluctant to buy it.
Am I being prejudice or it is still a good option in my case (I would use it only sporadically on vacations.)?
Will I be better with this Nikonos than with an u/w case for my 28-140mm G10 (at 1/2 - 1/3 of the price), for example ?
How long will 35mm films and processing will be in the market (and how easy will be to find a place to process them in the future)?
Thanx.

I am no expert in lens, but I think one should also consider not only the focal lengh but the d.o.f. specific for each lens.
The d.o.f. you get from a 105mm lens is not the same you get from a 50mm or a 35mm with a 1,5 crop factor, so most of the time you have to shot wide open to make the d.o.f shallower.
The 35mm lens, no matter what the final focal lengh is after croping, is and will always be a wide angle lens with a large d.o.f and this is not goot for portrais....
It may work well for portraits when used wide open but always will have this limitation.

How does the 105mm 2.8 micro AF-D lens (non VR) compare with the 105mm 2.0 DC?
Does the 105mm 2.0 DC gives visibly better results for portraits?
How does the new VR Micro lens version compares to the older AF-D model in terms of portait shooting?
I have the old AF-D Micro model and I was about to upgrade with one of the above.
Is it worth?
Tnahks for any inputs.
BTW, I am trying to upgrade my D300 firmware (It purchased in the US - gray market), and
I have no ideia of what country it was made for.
Based on my serial number can I find it out?
Nikonusa only lets ferforming firmware upgrade if it's an USA made model (It doesn't
accept my serial number).
How can I peform my firware upgrade now? Is it possible?
Any ideas anyone?

Great shot Dave.
-
What do you say about the old manual 105mm/2.5.
Is it still considered a good portrait lens?
-
Dave, maybe you're right (I hope so...).
It's a brand new lens and I took only a few shots, so I'm not yet familiar with it.
I'll try some new combinations and expect less from VR 'cause it sure does no miracle.
-
I do the same Matt, except that I find it easier to shot in Hi resolution JPEG right from the
start (it saves me time).
-
Nice capture Richard. It is reasonably sharp in my opinion.
-
Mikhail, I don't know about the focus but she is a gorgeous young lady!
-
BTW, is the Nikkor 105mm/2.8 micro a good lens for portrait and/or candids?
I know it's not designed for this purpose but what can I expect in this specific situation?
-
Thanks for your answers guys. Wow..!!!
Did any of you guys (Tom, Matt, Bruce, Antoine, Richard) do any post processing
(sharpening) in PS before posting your images?
-
Now the same picture taken with Nikon 50mm/1.8
-
This is the sharpest I can get....
-
Tom, don't you worry , my hands are steady like a rock! heheheheheheheheeh........
-
Well guys, here where I live it's 2:32a.m. and I must get some sleep now.
I'll come to your answers and suggestions as soon as I wake up later, OK ?
Keep posting if possible .......

I already tried ISO auto and Aperture Priority.
How can I be sure my VR is really working?
Any clues?
