Lol.. I too am guilty of overlooking the composition and framing. I find the beauty in looking at nudes not in the erotic sense but, in following the natural lines of a womans body. To me it is no different than looking at a beautiful car. It is all about those beautiful lines and curves.

Good idea..:-)

An alternative to the Canon 10-22mm could be Tamron's new SP AF10-24mm. It will save you a few bucks as well. However, I don't think it will be available for about a month.

Adding the battery grip to the XSI helps when you want something with a larger feel.
-
If your leaning toward the XSI check out Buydig.com. Last week they had the best price/no tax/no ship as compared to Adorama, B&H and Amazon.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question. However, I was at a loss as to where it would be
appropriate to post. Under "software" I saw no option to begin a new thread.
I am new to digital photography and am unsure as to what software program to use on my windows xp pro based PC
to print and organize my photo's. Although the posts for Adobe Lightroom are positive they really don't explain why
in detail. Under Adobe Photoshop elements 6 there are no responses.
I may or may not shoot in Raw mode, I will probably stick with the L-JPEG format for now. I would like something
that is not too intense but, does allow me to tweak my photo's. I do still shoot 35mm B&W and would like to import
those negs and slides from my Canon Scanner. I am usinig a Canon 450D/XSI body. I wouldn't mind a program that
may be a little advanced so I could grow into it.
Thanking You Advance :-)

Being a proud owner of a new Canon 450D I found Mark's remarks extremely helpful. I'm new to the digital world and will print his remarks out so I have them handy.

The Think Tank Photo line is a great system. If you are unsure as to what to get..just give them a buzz and tell them what your needs are. They will help you configure a system (as they did for me) that is best for you.

Try E-BAy..There are plenty of FD lenses to purchase there.

I was following this thread until you all went cryptic. Which style polarizer is better suited when using an auto-focus lens on an SLR ?
-
Currently BUYDIG.com has the best prices/freeship and no tax...unless you live in N.J. then tax applies :-( I was at Adorama, Amazon and a few others. Buydig offered the best prices. IMO go with just the body, choose your own lens, and forget the kit lens.

For what it's worth I took the plunge into the digital realm and purchased the Canon XSI yesterday.
I settled on the Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS lens. Although the EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 is a faster lens, and has some great reviews I couldn't help the nagging feeling that it would not be usable down the line when and if I upgrade to say a 50D body. At some point I would like to get a nice wide angle EF lens for landscapes. I'm just not sure which to get as of yet. I prefer to stick with the Canon lenses so if anyone has a suggestion I would love to hear it.
-
As with most things there are options and I still havn't reached a verdict yet on what to buy :-)
-
Yes Peter you are correct. I meant the EF 50mm f/1.4.

btw Ryan,
Canon is offering a rebate through 10/31/08. Here is the link.

Ryan I am in the exact same boat as you are. I have spent the better part of 5 hours researchinig, reading, chewing
my nails, and getting a headache over what to do. I have more or less come to the same conclusion as Mr.
O'Sullivan offered up to you. I come from years of shooting 35mm film as an amatuer with Nikons and Canon bodies.
By no means am I a semi-pro or pro..lol.
However here is what I have settled on thus far.
1. Canon Rebel XSI Body
Lenses:
1. EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM
2. EF-S 50mm F/1.4 USM (I'm not going to bother with the 1.8)
Flash:
1. 430EX or 430EXII
I have tripods and filters so I'm all set there (until I find I need something..lol)
Memory Cards SD
1. Two 8GB SD Cards
Ifigure this will run me about $2,300.00.
Hope this helps,
Becks

Well it looks like it has been a couple yeras sinice someone last posted on this topic.
I am wondering if anyone has had good (great..lol) experience with any Mail-In labs recently that develop 35mm
Kodak BW 400cn as well as Kodak UC 400.
Thanks :-)

Thanks Folks,
I just can not believe what a great site this is. I'm a new member and have held off on donating $ until I had an idea of how well a newbie would be treated. I have forwarded this site to several of my friends that use 35mm film with nothing but glowing words. Since my joining about 3 weeks ago my interest in photography has grown 10 fold by the mere fact of how enthusiastic, supportive and informative the members here are.
Thank you for your advice, as it is truly appreciated :-)
Cheers,
Becks :-)

Hi All,
I searched through the forums and was unable to find a topic on my question.
I am going to Hawaii in a couple of months, and will be taking my trusted Canon A1 35 mm with me. Can anyone
recommend a 35mm color print film which would be good for taking pictures of landscapes, fauna, and hopefully
some wildlife. Since I will only have 1 35mm camera body with me I won't have the option of toting multiple bodies
with different films loaded.
Thanks,
Becks

OMG...no it wasn't..lol. What I had intended was P&S (point & shoot). Not the best way to make a first post. My
apologies.

As my first post I take great pride it making it on this topic :-)
I own 2 digital point and shoots (Canon G5 and Canon SD 1000) However, my children..lol are a Nikon FE, an FA and
a Canon A-1.
IMO film is art, a way to truly express myself. I enjoy the romantic aspect of changing lens, filters, camera
bodies, film mediums (color/B&W). I enjoy making the choices myself with respect to how I will take a shot. I
have favorite shoulder straps with empty film canister duck taped to the strap. I cherish the metal canisters
over the black plastic ones...lol I love the screw on top ones the most !! I love digging down into one of my
camera bags and rearranging it to make room for something new off an auction site. If I had more money I would
buy more bodies. I believe no one can own too many manual cameras or automatic watches.
I usually tell people who ask/question my choice that film gives me more control over the artistic expression of
taking a photograph. I also prefer the warmth of an album (vinyl) over the steel quality of a CD !!
I mean no disrespect to folks who prefer or use digital POS and SLR's.
This is a great site and I am thrilled to have found you all.

agree that a thnak you should not be overlooked. After reading the responses above I couldn't help but notice that most of those responses came from supporting members. I have wondered why so many people use these forums repeatedly...yet they choose not to support it.
I suppose this is no different then when one purchases something in a store these days. More often than not the clerk rarely if ever says thank you. When that occurs I take notice and file away that my patronage is not appreciated. I reallize this is slightly off topic. However, saying thank you for something received is basic. Something we all should have learned in kindergarten.
Thank You Mr. Eastwood for creating this thread. Hopefully those that have "overlooked" the correct response will remember to do so in the future. :-)
