  1. I'm looking for a basic program to lay out photos for printing. Windows preferred. Linux OK. I want to set paper size, draw one or more rectangles, and paste image files into the rectangles, ignoring page margins. Does anyone here know of such a program? My search returned a plethora of overblown products smothered in editing and management features, which I don't need. Any opinions on Scribus? The Scribus Team is small. Is that a worry?
  2. Thanks! Turns out 12 x 12 is available from Inkpress and Redriver, as well as Fotospeed. But you are right about larger squares. I couldn't find any. A sampling: https://fotospeed.com/paper/square-paper.html http://www.inkpresspaper.com/profiles.asp?PaperID=23 https://www.adorama.com/ijdm8121250.html https://www.redrivercatalog.com/scrapbook-central/best-inkjet-printer-for-12x12-printing-scrapbooks.html
  3. Does anyone know of a supplier for square inkjet paper? Size 13" x 13" or 14" x 14", though down to 10" x 10" would be welcome. For use on Canon Pixma Pro-100 I have found only Fotospeed. They sell 12" x 12".
  4. Nine boxes available Unused, clean, dry Acid free, lignin free 10 1/2" Wide X 8 1/2" High X 5 1/2" Deep Front corners are reinforced with metal bands. Located in Hollis, NH. I have pictures, but I don't see how to include in this post. I can ship, but shipping is expensive. Example shipping costs for nine boxes:: UPS to Seattle is $93.10, to New York is $51.80. These prices assume the UPS web site gave me the right charges. Prices: 3 boxes $41 plus actual shipping 6 boxes $60 plus actual shipping 9 boxes $67 plus actual shipping http://Q
  5. Thanks! Of course! Equipment for sale => Classified. I thoughtlessly omitted reading to the end of the Equipment list.
  6. I've been away from photo.net for a long time. The last time I visited, there was a forum for listing equipment for sale. Is that gone? Where do people sell equipment nowadays?
  7. Further on the Canon rebate via Canon dealers... These mail-in rebates are a bother. From the Canon rebate instructions at https://static.bhphotovideo.com/FrameWork/Rebates_Promos/022819_CANO67_PRINTERAPR.pdf Claim Checklist: Original Proof of Purchase 12-Digit Barcode cut from the box(es) of the eligible printer(s) and, if applicable, camera(s), leaving a hole in the box(es). WE MUST RECEIVE “PROOF OF PURCHASE” WITH CARDBOARD INTACT. DO NOT PEEL OFF “PROOF OF PURCHASE” STICKER(S). (SEE SAMPLE UPC BARCODE ABOVE). At the risk of reciting the obvious, be sure to test the product before cutting a hole in the box and sending in the rebate paperwork, in case you need to return the product.
  8. B&H has the Canon Pro-100 at $129.99 after mail-in rebate of $250, ending 28 Feb. B&H return policy is 30 days, customer pays shipping. This annoys me. Customers get stiffed for return shipping defective products. Then again, the $250 rebate absorbs the gamble. (Aside: I bought an Epson XP-15000 at BestBuy. I gave up trying to install the printer's software a month after I bought.; The store gave me a store credit for the printer's price, but I lost the $30 I gambled on the 2-year service contract. Now I have to spend the stupid $249 store credit at BestBuy. This REALLY annoys me. Lesson: run acceptance tests on whatever you buy as soon as you can.)
  9. When trying to install the software for my Epson XP-15000 printer on my Windows 7 computer, the following error message appeared: Installing EPSON Print CD Feature: Program Component: Program File: Error: Access is denied. Epson support suggested connecting the printer to the computer, contrary to the instructions that came with the printer. Has anyone seen this? Has anyone installed an XP-15000 on Windows 7?
  10. Re: (paddler4): "...you can often find "used" ones that are still in unopened boxes." Yup. I just saw two PRO100's on craigslist NH, in Deering $200 and Salisbury $150.
  11. Thanks very much, Ed_Ingold. Even assuming Epson's 200-year claim is an order of magnitude exaggerated, a 20-year practical lifetime is adequate for the likes of me (I'm 75). I suppose tucking dye-based prints into polypropylene sleeves and storing them in archival binders would move them close to Epson's optimistic claim, or at least closer to my pessimistic claim. One question occurred to me: Why is the printer on sale? $249 at Amazon $100 off, and $300 at Epson $50 off. (BestBuy claims to match Amazon, but I have never tested this.) I asked Epson whether it's on sale because they're discontinuing the model. Within a couple of hours (!) they responded: "Please be advised that Epson Technical Support does not have any information as to the discontinuation of the product. Epson promotes its brand from time to time to be sure our loyal customers would get the right campaigns and follow-ups especially this holiday season."
  12. I'm looking at the Epson XP-15000 ($249 on Amazon today). It uses dye inks, which don't last as long as pigment, though Epson says "...for superior photos that last more than 200 years", with the expected disclaimers about environment. Maybe the photos last 200 years if they are stored in light-tight containers at -150 Fahrenheit (and what does "last" mean?). Has anyone built up experience with this printer?
  13. Problem disappeared. I turned the scanner off, picked it up, and shook it (gently!), figuring that might dislodge dust. I did not test immediately. I left it off for a couple of days. I've scanned a couple hundred frames with no weirdness. If the cause was dust, I have to wonder how dust manages to reach the CCD. By the way, the yellow line appeared on four of six frames in two 3-frame strips, on the second frame in the first strip, and then the three frames on the second strip, skipping the third frame in the first strip. (My two-year extended warranty expired three months ago, of course.) Incidentally, I asked Epson support about this, and they replied within three hours (!). They advised clicking Reset All in EpsonScan, and testing on "regular paper", neither of which I needed to try. Thanks very much for responses.
  14. I've been scanning color negatives, medium format, at 600 DPI. After scanning about a thousand negatives over two years, my V600 decided to paint a narrow vertical yellow band across its output images. Has anyone else seen a similar problem? Has anyone's V600 had quality problems?
  15. I just tried Save As in Standard 2019, to save by replacing the image file. It popped up a dialog "Confirm Save As". I clicked on Yes. It then popped up a dialog complaining that the selected output file was the same as the source. It did not give me the option of replacing the file. Aside: I am running a trial, mostly of Manage. So far, I find the UI somewhat puzzling. For instance, I cannot find (even in the user guide) how to prevent ACDSee from importing files I add to its working directory. The program seems weak on user friendliness, e.g. at installation, without asking, it makes itself the default viewer for image files, e.g. jpg, tif.
  16. Turns out the program had indeed analyzed all 11 of my images, but it displayed only 6 in the Smart Tags display, even though there was ample room to display all 11. The user interface for tag management needs work.
  17. Does anyone know of a photo organizer/cataloger/manager that can analyze images and automatically assign tags? I'm running Adobe's Elements 2019 trial. Its Organizer can analyze images and assign tags automatically, though naturally image analysis takes time. (And I'm wondering whether the program will need much more than 3 hours to analyze the 11 images I'm trying right now, or whether the program has given up.)
  18. Here we are in 2018, and the multi-crop is unchanged. I am flailing at the size and placement settings, and will post here if I disentangle the thicket.
  19. The non-sticky settings infuriated me. I'd make a change, and other numbers would spontaneously change. And I haven't figured out how to unbundle the scanning PPI from the output DPI and source size. I set output print size to 10" x 10", 300 DPI, input 2.07" x 2.07", and the output TIFF file is 3000 x 3000, because SilverFast says so.. I don't want to do all this arithmetic. I tell EpsonScan to scan at 1600 x 1600 (or whatever), and it does that, without arguing about output size. Maybe I missed something, but we ought not need to study a product's peculiarities to make it work.
  20. I bought one. It's 75 X 90 mm, (3 X 3.5 in). Time to apply scissors! On hasselbladrepair.com, there is a Focus Calibration Sheet described as 22.9 X 16.2 cm for 28 euros.
  21. At $32, a bit pricey, but it looks like what I need. Can I cut strips from this sheet to fit a medium-format film holder for the Epson V600?
  22. Using Epson V600 with BetterScanning variable-height negative holder, medium format To adjust the height of my negative holder, I wish to use a monochrome negative (black and transparent) with a test pattern that has sharp edges. Does anyone know where I can find such a negative?
  23. <p>Scanner arrived as expected, and as expected, Fedex left the box outside. The box is a "store" box, i.e. not re-packed in a shipping carton. The box has hand-grip openings, so it is not sealed. Outside temperature was about 85; humidity also about 85. The scanner is in good shape, though.<br />Fedex delivered a second box containing two sheets of paperwork. The paperwork was not damaged, presumably because it was packed with air-bubble cushioning. (Chuckle.)<br /><br /></p>
  24. <p>I ordered directly from Epson. I figure dealing with the manufacturer has a slight edge over dealing with a third-party seller.<br> I also bought a 1-year extended warranty. My VISA has "Warranty Management", which appears to be almost a scam. One registers the product with "them", and then, with "a single phone call", they manage warranty service. I figure that single phone call explodes into N calls, N > 1. I might as well phone Epson.<br> Epson has a service provider in Bellingham, MA. I am in So. NH. Shipping is $27.40, including insurance and the USPS $9.95 "fragile" fee. That's 13.7% of the purchase price. I don't know whether they stiff the customer for the return cost, which would make it 27.4% of the purchase price.<br /><br />Staples has the V600 for ths same price. They use Square Trade for warranty. Their website says 2-year plan is $16.99, 3-year plan is $19.99. However, beware Square Trade. As one or two commenters here noted, there are issues with these third-party service "extensions". Square says "Your plan begins on the date you purchased your item". Huh? Why bother?<br /><br />And reviews of third-party service-plan administrators are often unfavorable.<br /><br /><br> Many, many thanks for responses to my question. I hope to return the favor.</p>
