Met Marena in SF on Market. Lovely Brazilian girl. Love her name; the
meaning of it; "The Water Priestess". Shot the photo looking up, the
sky with clouds enhancing this shot.

Market and 5th streets at the chess tables. The unofficial border to the
tenderloin; the border where the police tell the tourists not to cross.
Many of the people from the Tenderloin come out to the border; most do
not cross. I must tell many to put their clothes back on as families are
in the area. In the Tenderloin it seems to not matter to them at all.

I have been very busy with a project in the Tenderloin section of San
Francisco. As I go in many of the people know I shoot photos and that I
also have them printed and bring the prints back to them. Some of the
people pose to the extent that I must tell them to put their clothes back
on. I rather like this girl, she was quite easy to talk with. Note the scars
on her body from reportedly being stabbed at different times.

thank you.

Thank you Axel. Sometimes it is very easy to feel their pain their need to be held and cared about. It may hurt but sometimes you can't help but get drawn in to them.

he plays chess all day.

Some will cut to feel pain in order to kill pain

Please see my other photo of her. Runaway 16. I took her to Ross and
bought her clothes as it was cold and rainy out and she was shivering.
She did not want to be identified in the photos I took. She turned to
crack on the street. I tried to get her to come home with me so I could
clean her up and give her a warm place to sleep, but the street and
crack called her too hard. She walked away into the darkness of San
Francisco. I hope I see her again and she is OK.

Cold out, she was shivering. Runaway about 16. her clothes were a
jacket, sweatshirt and a table cloth rapped around her for a dress.
Beautiful girl She did not want her face shown in a photo. I took her to
Ross and bought her some clothes, letting her shop as long as she
wanted. She only picked a few cheap items. I tried to get her to come
home with me, but "Crack" was more important and she walked away
into the rainy darkenss of the San Francisco night time. I did give her
my cell number to call me if she needed help. She probably will not. It is
winter now coming. They are in need of warmth we all must help them.
It breaks my heart to see children like this.

Thank you very much.
I like this portrait alot. it shows the true them while the lighting and shadows greatly enhance the portrait. Their eyes and look shows their comfort with me; knowing I am there as a friend and not just someone who is there shooting pictures of them. the more I visit the more comfortable they are with me and I feel it as in the photo. They are more than a photo to me they are people I do care about. do not get me started here as I can carry on about all of them.
Again, thank you very much. your critiques are very well received.

I spotted her once before; she is easily recognizable. I just did not get to her before she left the shooting zone I was in. I remember the little hat and her face.
-
Yes I did.

Street Friends I see on the weekends during my almost weekly visit to
the San Francisco Tenderloin area. They all have their tales about how
they ended up there. If they are clean when they get there drugs and
alcohol usually get to them after awhile.
-
I like the shadows and the boats in the background. I waited for people
to pass by when the jogger came running. Just chance I caught both
feet in the air.
-
She paused her shopping to catch a call

Excellent; that is all I can say. Excellent would not change a thing

Saw him shooting at Market and Powell San Francisco. Had to get the
shot of him shooting. Do you know him?
-
Market and Powell San Francisco. I saw here shooting street scenes and
performers.
-
She saw me shooting her. She looked at the photos I had taken then
asked if she could pose for a few and if I would send them to her;
which I did. A beautiful you girl she is
