1.
Great images this week! Mine is from a 9/11 Memorial dedication. Column C89 from the South Tower was turned into a sculpture outside Firestation #3. Thanks to all the brave men and women who are first responders.
2.
A very fine start to the Nikon Wednesday! Michael Mann said the the Miami sky was a character in his films. For me clouds are often part of the image but rarely the sole subject.
3.
Great images this week! This is one of the shots I planned for Long Shot. A 24 hour photo marathon to raise money in support of Photo Center NW in Seattle. It's classic South Beach. I mean if you are going to be up all night....where else are you going to go. I always build a frame work of a plan. So must get shots but I try to keep myself open to what's happening in the moment.
4.
Some very interesting Photos this week!
This was taken from the street in South Beach in front of The Clevelander. LONG SHOT 2010 is a 24 hour photo marathon in support of Photo Center NW.
I drove 600 miles and made 600 images in the 24 hour time frame. Exausting but fun and well worth it.
5.
Interesting Story. Beers got too rapped up in 6 tenths of a second. Life and a Lifes work is more than that. I am reminded of the Olympics. The difference between Gold and Silver .03 of a second. I wonder how they pick themselves up and train for 4 years for another chance. Until still cameras can shoot at the frame rate of high speed video cameras...still photographers will miss shots. I do feel for the man.

  6.
With all that rocket science that it took to get us to the moon what do people remember? A photograph. The Earthrise over the Lunar landscape spoke to all of us. Some have called the beginning of the modern environmental movement, as we realized what a beautiful and fragile place we live. Photography is at the intersection of art and science but what I'm curious about is Rational vs Creative? Does this to imply that creativity is irrational or at odds with rational thought? Art is every bit as reasoned as science. Irrational Art as with irrational Science makes little sense.

Thanks to those who made the generous comments on the Seattle Gasworks image, very kind.
Great images last week, very much looking forward to this week, which has already gotten off to a heck of a start!
Continuing the Seattle Park theme:
This was the oldest Douglas Fir in the Seattle area (King county) found in the O.O. Denny Park on Lake Washington's Eastern Shore. At over 10 feet across and 475 years of age this tree really had history. The inaugural day storm of 93 snapped it quite literally in half.
Thanks Matt for picking up the torch.....and thanks to Jose for his efforts.
Photo: Franklin Falls, Denny Creek. Near Seattle in Washington State, USA.

Carol, what a great gift from your husband. Good man!
Now what your are experiencing is perfectly normal. Fighter Pilots call it Helmet Fire. When you become task saturated and have information overload. Just think about driving an unfamiliar car for the first time.
To continue with the pilot metaphor....overcome this "overload" with "time in type" Pilots indicate experience with hours in a certain aircraft. So that's what you need to do....sounds like you are on your way!
Enjoy your new Camera!

  10.
Matthew Brennan: Very pleasing comp and the bird puts something extra in the image. It's not easy to make a landscape work at this time of day but for me this one does. Nice
Monika Epsefass: Excellent again this week! Your compositions are beautiful.
Jeannean Buglady: Your use of color, composition and the repeating shapes in the water droplets make this image enjoyable for me.
Aguinaldo de Paula: Both an interesting Landscape and Documentary image. Fine work.
Kent Shafer: The tone of the image and glow in the quality of light make this one for me. It's also got a bit of a naturalist perspective that is interesting.
Shun Cheung: A fine example of how being aware of your daily surroundings can be made into an good solid image.
Jon Eckman: A very serine image. Dan Park: One of the best Holiday shots I've seen this season. Very good skin tones.

  11.
Great work this week! Outstanding. I am humbled by the company here.

My approach to wildlife is the same with a Grizzly Bear or a Fire Ant. Compose the shot predetermine the exposure and wait for the subject to enter the frame. Often this will yield the results that I'm looking for. Not surprisingly I've had more trouble with Fire Ants than Grizzlies or Wolves.

    Aggressive little beasties.

    Nikon as always.
