  1. Hi,

I LOVE ThinkTank's Bazooka Tripod case and also their Urban Disguise shoulder bag... but My

LowePro Pro Roller is a MUCH better built than think tanks version all the way around... but it

IS heavier. I use the ProRoller 1 cause it will always get accepted as carry-on and the great

feature is that the cushioned camera insert lifts out in 2 seconds so you can use it as

luggage... The Urban Disguise is very hard to beat though....

  2. Hi,

The 3540SL is rock solid with ALL legs extended... a lot of nature guys are using them with 600MM + lenses. It compacts to 21-1/2" so you can carry it on. Get the ArcaSwiss B1 head as the Z1 is smaller in diamiter and that can cause problems accessing the small pan control knob... the large knob is not a problem with either B1 or Z1.

I sold all of my older Gitzos and the 3540 is good with cameras all the way up to 8X10. really amazing... and VERY light.

  3. I concour... the 6X line is without question the best tripod made... Do not touch induro... many complaints on quality (maybe lead paint.. 8-) )

I have the 3540LS and it's a dream. Rock solid even with all sections extended and is even great with the add-on center column. A lot of nature guys are using this pod with 600MM lenses and Wimberly sidekicks. Gitzo finally hit one out of the park. I sold my big 4 series Pro studex aluminum which didn't support as well even at 5 times the weight.

  4. I have a Gitzo 3540LS and it is sturdy enough with ALL sections extended to handle up to a 600mm. The new Carbon 6X and the G Locks are so good it's amazing. The XLS is just TOO long for travel. At 21-1/2 inches I can carry my 3540LS onboard and don't have to worry about checking it. I was thinking about the XLS but so many Gitzo users told me that the LS was high and sturdy enough that I went that way and I am glad I did. Most of the users I talked to are birders that use super tele's with Wimberly sidekicks....

The length can be a dealbreaker if you travel...

I have also use the 3540LS with heavy MF and 5X7 view camera and an Arca Swiss B1 ball head.

    Go for it....

  5. Hi,

I just got an i1 Display2 with a REV A puck... I just learned that there are also REV B and REV C pucks

released. I was wondering if the REV A puck I have is less accurate than the newer pucks?

Has anyone c compared the differences , if any? Anyone here using the REV A i1 D2... happy with it?

What is the most recent version of the iMatch software?

    Thanks.

  6. I have read reviews of the Benro knockoffs of Gitzo tripods and their Ball head which is a

knockoff of the Arca Swiss B1. It was clear that the materials and workmanship were a far cry

from equaling the pieces they imitated. Remember.. you get what you pay for.

  7. Dear Peter,

Any of the new Gitzo Carbon 6X line are great... but the good carbon lines are VERY expensive. I just went with the 3540LS 4 section. As sturdy as my 4 series Gitzo Pro studex. I hurt my back and needed the light weight.

I am selling my Pro studex... mint- condition. Super low.. ( 4") to super high (85") and a systematic to boot. Just not 4 pounds.

But any of the newer carbons are decent..

  8. Hi,

I use a Blad... and I compared the new Gitzo Carbon 6X tripods with the G series leg locks. I must tell you that although the 4 section leg models may not be AS sturdy as the 3 section the new leg lock system is SO fantastic that the tripod is ROCK solid with full 4 leg extension. It is FAR better than the last interation of the Carbon line. I would NOT hesitate to go with the 3540LS ( 21.5" folded to 59" fully open with no column) I was going to go 3 leg untill I tried them out. GREAT tripods. If you don't have to travel then go 3 section.. but if you DO then I would not hesitate to go 4 section with the Carbon 6X and the new leg locks.

  9. I have been talking with the head of the M1 project at Microtek and he says that the

difference is that the technology has not only gotten much better ( better detector

technology... ) but much cheaper than the stuff used to build the last generation of

Microtek and Nikon scanners. He said that the M1 will compare very well with the

coolscan and may even surpass it because of the flouescent source used instead of the 3

LED source used in the Coolscan. He said that the M1 will obsolete the rest of the

Microtek line... even the high end. The tests will tell... but from what I have been told this

will be a very impressive piece of equipment.

    Can't wait 8-)
