1.
Hello All,

It's my dream to take up fashion photography as my profession though my mainstream is something else at the moment. I have been doing some TFCD works with my local models. I live in cambridge, UK. I want to learn more and I think the best way is to assist a seasoned pro but I have no clue how do I get to them or whom do I approach!.. My another concern is that I can work only during weekends as I am a science professional working during the week. How much will this work assisting some on weekends to begin with?
Please, could you suggest some best possible way? I am getting more desperate these days!

Thanks,
2.
Hi All,
One of my chinese friend is visiting me in UK. She says she could get me some photographic accessories if I want but she has know idea about photography and stores. I thought it would be great to buy some if cheaper. I am planning to buy a computrekker plus AW which is 40 % less price in china.
Anyone would recommend an online and a reliable store? Any flash light accessories that can make a fair deal? Like reflectors, gels, flash softboxes?
I tried googling but most of the sites are in chinese hence could not figure. Would be of great if some one aware of chinese market could help.
Thanks a lot.
3.
Hi all,
I have a friend's wedding for whom I would be shooting. Its a quiet affair and informal wedding. I am asked to shoot in odd time that is in the noon on a sunny day. The location seems to be of a bit uneven hightlights and shadows.
What would be the approach to meter and to get the right exposure? I use canon 400d.
Please all suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks a lot in advance!
4.
Thanks a lot Dawn and Nadine.. Very informative responses.. One area I have not explored much are not comfortable at the moment is shooting with flash on camera and for such scenarios one may have to stick with on camera flash..
The link u provided is very useful and something that i was looking for..I ll have a look.

 5.
Hi,
I am an amateur photographer but very serious about photography. I live in UK, Oflate I have been involving myself in shooting portraits and portfolios and yesterday I managed to get an offer from gumtree for a wedding shoot. The groom says he is on a budget hence cant afforda pro and his budget is only 200 £ for three hours of shoot and he says its be going to be a quiet affair with 20 guests. The marriage to happen in the register office and portraits to be taken at a college garden. Marriage time between 2.30 and 5.30 Late august.
I have explained him about my inexperience in shooting wedding and I have not attended any british wedding before as I am a Indian living in UK only for the past year and a half..I want to do this as it would be a great experience for me but at the same time I got to be cautious since its wedding and the documentation is quiet important.
I have canon 400d with kit lens, 50mm 1.8, 55-250mm IS, 430 ex and vivitar 285. All that I am worried about is my gear. I am not very comfortable shooting with the kit lens as it doesnt produce sharp images.
I have no clue about wedding photography, What are the other legal stuffs that i should consider to be safe?. The groom sounds like he somehow wants me to take the pic because of his budge. I did show him my work as well which he said liked it..
Here are my works - http://www.flickriver.com/photos/38251599@N07
Please friends suggest me how should I go about this.? What else would I need interms of lighting?
I need to take a call now.
Cheers,
6.
Hi Friends,
I am gonna do a shoot by this weekend for a blonde indoors in a house using ambience light and fill light. Going to do both elegant portraits and few implied nude shots. I would like to have some critics before i do the next shoot to correct my mistakes. I am an amateur and I was not paid for these shots. These are kinda portfolio shooting but I am interested in modelling and stuff. I dont think these can qualify as modelling shots. Correct me on posing and technical aspects. Also gimme some suggestion or things to consider for my upcoming shoot. I shoot with canon 400d, kit lens, 50 1.8, 55-250mm, Couple of speedlites.

 7.
Thanks very much for all the suggestions. I am yet an amateur and I dont make money of photography probably in future. I simply preferred these two lenses for its cost. I think 16-35 is quiet expensive than the 17-40 my pocket is not yet heavy for it. Yeah as you rightly pointed out I would want to have the 70-200 2.8 IS for sure but may have to hold on for a while till i get enough budget.

 8.
Hi Folks,
I am planning to buy canon 17-40 L usm for my 400d as a replacement to my kit lens..i have 50 mm prime and 55-250 IS along with the kit lens..I am also gonna buy 70-200 F4L. Is it a right choice to buy 17- 40 to use it for environmental portraits as well as an alround lens to replace kit lens?
Please through in your opinions friends..
Thanks,
9.
Hi All,
I am from UK, I am planning to buy EF 17-40 and 70-200 4L the non IS. In UK I feel they are quiet expensive compared to adorama US. If one of my friend from US buys it and sends it to me as gift through courier would I still be charged customs and VAT? if that is the case this way doesnt prove to be any less expense..Has anyone done this before?
I also have a friend coming from singapore..Do you have any suggestion on singapore online stores ?

Thanks,
10.
Oh my god..I never thought there would be so many responses..It's a great place to get diff people's opinions idea..It's always in knowledgeable and informative for amateur like me to step the foot right..I value all your suggestions on the caption part..Yeah i agree i could have done a bit too much with those..I am still learning, soon I'll get rid of those and let the viewers have their own interpretation..Its always good to let the viewers have their own thoughts about the pics rather me narrowing down to just one thought.
I understood that from teh w/nw threads. I am hoping to improve with all these comments. Thanks a lot..Howard I dint take offence and my apologies if i did offend you.

 11.
Mark - I dont take pics of kids unaware as I know the sensitiivity here in this country..I 100% make sure I seek permission of the parents before i take pics of kids..if not while taking pic after taking ill let them know that i took the pic..if they ask me to delete..I say sorry and delete it..

 12.
Thanks a lot for all your ideas and opinions..that was helpful analysing and how should i approach from here after..Yeah the caption could be of vary as how ppl see it and some of them could be offensive to ppl...no where i would have mentioned with an intention of hurting others sentiment from my heart..when i say which is most dangerous women or tobacco..I in no sense mean that girl is dangerous but what i am trying to say is that both are tempting and the temptation few have for girls could end up dangerous when it exceeds the boundaries...about the charles angels - i saw the three old women curiously awaiting something for a long time..since they are being three i though charles angels would be ideal and wanting to go back to those enthusiastic days..i am a very ignorant about charles angels..i have not even seen the movie..i just know that there was movie in 2000 which featured three young women investigators..only now i googled to know it's been there from 1976..that is only my ignorance... I can rectify these things in future.
Howard, with due respect I am not entirely sure what is the * in your smart*ss stands for..If it was of any abusive language I think you can make comments in a better fashion in a better language..Thanks a lot.

 13.
Hi All,

I am an amateur photographer. Oflate i have been more attracted towards street candid and people photography...Most of my shots are shot with a telephoto lens unaware by the subject. I shoot unaware as I feel I cant capture the real moment if the person get to know I am capturing them and result in the person being camera cautious.
here is a comment made by a friend of mine after looking at my pics
"Well i would say that you should not capture people unaware, its like stealing moments. Capturing people unawares is against the very ethics of street/documentary photography. I am telling you since I do interact with a lot of documentary photographers, both local and ones on a world stage. Hope you get my point. "
Please clarify if I am doing the right thing? or am I being unethical? I am sure I would not want my pics to be floated around in the internet with some jokes around but in none of the pics i have made a joke and used their image for wrong reasons..
I knwo its easy to spot these shots whoever has a telephoto lens and the real challenge is capturing such candid shots in the people's space with their knowledge..I am just developing my skills and I seek ppl's permission wherever i could.
14.
Hi Folks,
I am here again knocking at the knowledge doors of photo.net. I come here when i have a challenge upfront.

I am in UK and and I am going to renault world series car race this weekend. I have never watched a motorsport even on tele before :)..I haven't tried much of action photography. I have canon 400d with kit lens, 50 mm 1.8 and 55-250 IS. I think i could only use 55-250 as i would be shooting from the stands and i am not even how far that would be enough. Its not one of the fast focussing lens..and my camera produces a lot of noise anything over 400.

So what mode and what settings should i use given the restrictions i have on equipment. Please advice me.

Thanks,
15.
Hi Folks,
I am very sorry for the delayed response.. i was sick and hence dint get online at all.
Thanks a lot for all your comments. This would definintely help me improve upon my work. I have been more a people photographer than a raw street photographer. The reason i feel being a bit nervous lto shoot close to people. How do you guys shoot just 7 - 10 feet away from people. That is one area i certainly have to improve upon.
Thanks a for providing some reference those are the stuffs i am looking to get inspired and learn.

 16.
Hi,
I want to improve upon my work and there is no other place to get critics other than photo.net. I am going crazy about street photography and capturing people's expression these days.. I am in love B8W photography.
As i am progressing. I wanna know what i am doing is right or not..I wanna how well i could improve upon. I am more and more kinda stuck with vertical shots than the horizontal ones..my cam just goes vertical almost all the time..I donnot how do i get rid of this.. Most of my shots are tight framed and not wide ones..that is because most of the time i am hooked on with my canon 55- 250 IS..The other factor being i dont have a quality wide lens...all that i have canon 400d kit lens..which i am not pleased with these days...
Here is my link for my recent works.. the first 30 are my recent ones..pls have a look and criticise

 17.
Hi All,
I am not into wedding photography and I dont make living out of photography at the moment. I live in UK. I did a couple shoot for friend and seeing those pics my another friends wants to take such shots for themselves..who are recently married.
I dont want to do free this time as it could help me buy some gear but not sure how much I can charge. For you to get a better understanding of my work and what they want I am attaching the flickr link to the pics that I shot. Please let me know your critics on these pics as well as most importantly how much I can charge per shoot.

 18.

How correct am I shooting?

I have been learning to shoot with flashes in the outdoor oflate. I want to know whether i am doing it the right way or wrong..If i am doing wrnog corrections please.. I use canon 400d with 430ex and Vivitar 285. Here is how i set up...

I connect my primary off camera flash to through a PC synch chord which doesnt support TTL and secondary flash(if needed) with an optical slave to trigger of.

I shoot both camera and flash in manual mode..I have been preferring shooting with ISO 100 or 200.

I am not very clear about the effective usage of metering hence I use evaluative metering.

I use these setting for portrait shots with reflectors and diffusers.. Please correct me as i want to improve.

Thanks,
GK
