  1. Hi Friends:

I just got my SB600 delivered for my D70. Just tried some shots. The exposure

seems very accurate. My question is that how can I get the high speed sync on

D70. I normally use Aperture priority mode with my own tweakings. But in "A"

mode my sync speed is only 1/60. What should I do? Should I change to other mode

that allow me to use fast speed sync like 1/500?

    Thanks,

    Benhai

  2. All compatible?! That's really good!

I will ask my bother to check if they are still functional. Wish they are good! Are you sure the flash can do TTL on DSLR? Nikon give a very hard time to decide to get their mid priced SB600.

I really like the big LCD screen pentax DSLR has.

  3. Hi Friends:

I left my Pentax MZ50 (cheapest film system I can afford in 1996) AF system in

China 12 years ago. I was thinking of getting a pentax DSLR body and take it to

China so that I don't have to carry my stuff for international travel (I have a

Nikon D70 system in the US). I need your help to see if I can update the body

only. Here are my film stuff:

Pentax 35-80mm AF lens. (Cheap zoom but works fine.)

Tokina 20-35mm AF lens. (serves me extremely well in film day.)

Pentax AF220T Flash. (A very good economy expensive flash in 1996.)

Need your help to see if they are still compatible in Pentax DSLR world.

    Thank guys!

    Ben

  4. Finally, I ordered the SB600 outfit from Adorama (too bad B&H doesn't have an oufit)! I think I'll eventually need another flash later. I'll probably grab a SB800 at that time. I'm eager to light up the whole house with it now :)

I feel very much relief after I made this decision! Thanks and have a great weekend!

  5. Hi Friends:

Since Mr. Bush is going to send me the stimulus check, so I decide to take good use

of it. I like the SB800 more but don't like the steep price (a decent used DSLR price). I

found that KEH has a used one for $275 (EX+ condition seems with everything). I also

found SB600 outfit at adorama for $207. Since the KEH discount is not big (B&H new

for about $314), should I go for it?

  6. Thanks for all of the helps! I'd go for a SB-600.

Then another problem is where to buy. I saw it $184 at B&H for quite sometime. Will the price drop further? Is there any other places that can give me better price?

I can consider an used one if someone is upgrading to SB-800.

  7. Seems I'll stick on Nikon flashes. Anyone have some experiences with SB600 in a concert or on a stage? I am not sure if SB600 is strong enough for a piano concert. The concert will be at Steinway Concert. I'm going to use Nikon 70-210mm AF F4 lens. I'd like to set the Aperture at F8 or F5.6.
  8. I don't do too much flash photography and will occasionally do some concert shots, so I'll need a powerful flash. SB800 is too expensive, so alternatively the SB-28 might be a choice though I have to twick the settings to get it right.

SB600's power might be ok but I can't try out.

  9. Hi Friends:

I have another question. I'm planning to use SB-28 on my D70 with "A" mode.

Since that's the only semi-auto mode I can use, I am thinking why not consider a

3rd party flash with an equal good "A" mode to use? Can anyone provide some

thoughts or recommendations? Or no matter what stick on used SB-28? I don't use

    film anymore.

    Thanks,

    Benhai

  10. Seems using SB-28DX might be my alternative to SB-800. I may considering an used D2 series body when the right price come across. I don't mind set it up cause we did the same thing 20 years ago with the film cameras. Maybe I'm too old now :) .

I'll go ahead to search an used SB-28DX.

    Thanks all!

  11. Hi Friends:

I want to have a flash with bounce capability better to swivel as well for my

D70. My purpose is to get natural lighting for indoor shots and sometimes

several shots for my daughter's piano solo concert. I think SB-800 might be the

one but I don't want to spend so much. I'd like the price of SB-400. So should I

go for a SB-400 with knowing it might not strong enough for a concert setting?

Maybe someone tried SB-400 in a concert?

Any alternative flash that can do i-TTL around $100?

    Thanks,

    Benhai

  12. My lens works properly now! What a big relief!

I have a crazy finding! Once you took off the focusing ring and by turning the front lens group alone you get a full range Micro! Which means Nikon limits the micro mode at only 28mm by a locking mechanism for you to keep focusing at other focal length. So by breaking the focusing ring with the locking mechanism you'll be OK to get a full range micro! Though I haven't get a conclusion how to break it without damage, it is a pretty good idea to go. I think at least I can make it working fine with manual focusing mode. For AF it will need a limiter to avoid turning the front lens off.

Anyway, it's a lot of fun and thinking to DIY! I think other lens will have the same capability if we want to ...

  13. Hi All:

Just disassembled the front lens group for adjustments. It's easy when follow the repair menu from Michael. Just need to unfastening 3 screws and then shaking the front lens a little:) Now I can adjust my focus to infinity! Though I'm still don't know how to fix my adjustments, it's not that terrible after all. I'm more and more confident that I can finish the adjustments by myself. I'll be working slowly since I do that during lunch time for fun. It's going to take several days for me to enjoy the adjustments and cleaning! I'm thinking of going deeper now for fun!

My bad luck from ebay has just turned into a joy by good guys at photo.net. Great people and great website! I don't feel that angry about that ebay seller now.

Thanks for the great repair menu Michael provided!

The repair menu is the key material to start with!

  14. Hi friends! I just registered today. I want to see if anybody know some websites

that have the illustration to adjust a Nikon AF lens's infinity/closest focus.

This lens is a Nikon 28-85mm AF F3.5-4.5 with Macro. Optically it is good but

the focus seems off a lot when doing close shoots. At 28mm side (not in macro

mode yet) the closest distance I can focus is about 1.6 meters. So I think this

lens needs a tuning. I got this lens from ebay(Ya, a bad lesson learned from

ebay! People just keep silent about problems.). Since I don't want to spend the

money to a repair shop, so I wish someone here can help. What I want to know is

from where to disassemble the lens and where can I turn to adjust the

barrel(only the focus not the zoom). I think I won't need to open up the lens

deep or total? I'm handy on electronics(I'm a FA guy.) though I may not have the

    right tool now.

I know I may end up with surprises since it seems the previous owner might kept

a secret here. I don't mind spending time on this lens since the repair shop's

cost will kill me as well :).

I am not able to thank you guys tonight but I can tomorrow.

    Have a nice evening!

    Ben
