1. I appreciate all of the responses folks. The only question that my son and I have is how well the Sigma 18-35mm Art works with the D3400. I have read numerous times that third party lenses have issues focusing on Nikon bodies. The concerts he shoots are small local bands.and he is always at the front of the stage. I think the biggest band he has ever shot was a group called "Atilla" and "The Plot in You". Bands that not many folks over the age of 25 have ever heard of. He is so close that he has to wipe sweat from the front element several times a show. He uses the 18-55mm kit lens, which has produced some great shots at a max. f/3.5. The problem is, he does not like using the flash. He feels it is disrespectful. The Sigma lens seems perfect for this, giving him a couple more stops. He is 17 years old, we are not going to break the bank for his hobby. We spoil him with love, not material things. This will be a combined parents/grand parents gift. Also, he is a bit on the skinny side but strong none the less. I put my Nikon 16-35mm f/4 on his body just to give him an idea of what it will feel like. He had no issue with that. In fact he liked it. So the only question is how well the D3400 and Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 mate up? We really appreciate any help you all can give us.
 2. Thanks Mike, I think it is $599 directly from Sigma. At the moment they have everything but Nikon mount.
 3. He is hoping to get this lens for Birthday/Christmas. Possibly upgrade camera body to a D7200/D7400 for graduation, if his aunts/uncles and everyone else treats him well. It took me years before I went FX, he will have to do that on his own. Regardless, we know it is a heavy lens. I just want to make sure it focuses well with the D3400. It will be a refurbished lens.
 4. Has anyone here ever used the Sigma 18-35mm ART on the Nikon D3400? I know that the lens should work with it, I just wonder how well it works with it. My son shoots a lot of concerts and on paper this lens should be superb lens for low light concerts. So, if anyone has ever used this combo please tell me what you think of it. Thank You, Derek
 5.
I will be getting the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 soon. I have read in a couple places to check the lens when you first get it for decentering. Is this lens known for this? If so, why are there so many great reviews on it? Anyway, I saw a video on decentering from Lens Rentals. It was somewhat informative but the little test sheet he had would be worthless with a wide angle unless you were a foot or two away.

So I would appreciate any instructions on how to test a wide angle lens for decentering.

Derek

 6.
I took a series of shots around the house. I was getting CA on the mortar between the bricks! Its going back, appreciate the help everyone.

 7.
I appreciate it Jose. I would hate to go through all the trouble of sending it back just to get another like it.

 9.
Would you consider this amount of CA to be to high for this situation?

This is a prime lens, 20mm, shot at f/11. This lens tested at 1.04 (CA), f/11, which is quite low. Is it possible to get higher CA in a bad copy? Would you send this lens back? I only have a couple more days before it is mine. CA is pretty easy to fix in PP, but still not real sure what to do? In highlights it is real bad, twice as bad as any lens I have ever had. I know you can expect CA under those circumstances, but.

Appreciate any help,

 10.
How about this situation, mountain laurel on a cloudy day? Easily noticeable on leaf in center and under branch near top of frame.

Really, all I would like to know is if I got a bad copy or is this normal? Is it even possible to get higher CA in a bad copy? I only have a couple more days left to send it back, what would you do?

Appreciate the help.

 11.
Ilkka, I visited your flickr page and saw quite a few pics with over-exposed skies. This one in particular is quite over-exposed. Next time you have a sky like that in your area shoot some tree branches against it with your 20.1.8. and let me know how it fares.

I just got this lens and debating on whether to send it back or keep it. I was really wanting to know if this was a common problem with the lens or maybe I got a dud. I have never got that kind of fringing with any other lens. However, I did figure out how to fix it in Lightroom, you have to do it manually. I think I did a -4 on the purple slider. The build of the lens is quite cheap, but It did fairly well on a sunset last night.

 15.
Dieter I used the auto correction and it did not work near as well as your corrected images. The CA auto correction I used is right beside the distortion and vignetting correction.

Ronald I will take some shots and see, same ugly day as yesterday.

Jose, it does look a little over-exposed but not enough to create highlight blinks on the D600 LCD. And I have photographed the same scenes many times over the years with 12-24mm f/4 and 18-35mmG. It is time for the chorus frog breeding and nothing shows that better than a dreary January day.

Here is the full photo:

 16.
Dieter, I don't have Photoshop. I do have Elements and Lightroom. Lightrooms CA feature does not work near as well. Not to mention it is one more step in PP that I would rather not have to do.

 17.
No doubt I am a little confused on how they test these lenses. My 18-35mmG lens was much better than this, wide open and in the corners. Yet, the 20mm f/1.8 rates much better at controlling CA?

 18.
A crop closer to the center:

 20.
Why is putting a picture on here so difficult?
Here is a link: http://www.photo.net/photo/18335231
It was shot at f/7.1, ISO 100, 1/2 sec. using Lee .6 soft GND

I must add that I was not able to remove it all in Lightroom.

 21.
Is purple fringing common in the Nikon 20 f/1.8G? I read all the reviews and they all showed CA to be low.

 22.
There is nothing I hate worse than shopping for a lens. I have read so many reviews that say the Tamron 15-30MM is a dream lens. I just finished looking at about 300 images taken with this lens on Flickriver and only saw a handfull of images that looked decent. Meanwhile, reviews and test show the Nikon 16-35MM to be just so-so at best and the images I have seen with that lens are superb!

 23.
Would like to know what you all think of this lens. Since I broke my Nikon 18-35mmG lens I have been trying to find a replacement. There are two lenses that look very attractive the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 ART. The Nikon 20mm f/1.8 looks good too, but same cheap build as my broken 18-35mm.

I really want the Sigma 20mm but feel like 20MM may not be wide enough for falls and river. So now I am looking close at the Tamron but wondering if it will hold up for ten years, how well it handles lake and ocean sunsets (flaring), close-ups and the Milky Way. In other words, I need it to do everything.

Thanks for any help.
Derek
