  1. ShunCheung - No I donot have the D850 yet, but I am considering it, as the price is now USD 2,735 in the local shop. I have the 200-500mm and instead of carrying 2 houses, I was thing of just changing the image area instead of getting a D500, which will save abt. 3 kg for the old man. I will try to get the D850 and may sell the D810 and then use the D7200, and the live with non-XQD cards, 3-4 fps less, assuming I can use the same batteries 15 and 15a.
  2. Being a keen photographer of kite surfers and less birds I often see photographers using D850 with long prime lenses and D500 with 200-500mm, which imho is some heavy stuff to carry around in addition to the tripod. I have the 200-500mm and am wondering, what is the major difference to between using a D500 and setting the D850 to DX in cases, where the subject is far away. Somebody can explain the difference in handling and/or IQ. Instead of the D500 I could have a D7200 available, but yes the AF on the D500 is superior to the D7200, which may be a big advantage for birding, but not a major disadvantage, when used for surf photography I assume.

  4. Kevin Beretta - The location data are in the NEF file from the gps , and they are shown in ViewNX as mentioned by you, and they are also shown in LR under Library in the normal way i.e. 22°8'23" N 103°46'55" E 2004.6 ft North-East but LR will not open the Google Map and plot the above position on the map.

  6. kevin beretta - sorry I commented before I read your latest comments about Geosetter
  7. Kevin Beretta - I had a problem with my PC, so I upgraded win8 to win10 and the shop in one way or the other managed to delete my LR not all other software. I had my downloaded copy and then my map module did function. Google googe and found out that they had deleted that function. If you find a workable 3rd party app then please advise us - we are many looking for it.
  8. Kevin Beretta - you press directly on the red light, and it switch off, and it is finding the satellite signal immediately, and you are back to normal again. so only very close to the Chinese border, and it is not a place, that I come that often. Why use a GPS? simple because I cannot alway remember exactly where the photos are taken especially if I have been on a longer trip around Vietnam. Before the GPS time I took a photo of the village/city name signs and the signs of the street name. For whatever reason all city name signs have disappeared, and the same street names can be found in all villages/cities. I apply it both to LR and Flickr.
  9. Some likes the electronic compass, but I admit it is there and not important for me. You are standing on the top of the mountain, and then you can see in the EXIF, that your lens was aimed at 347° and then you know the name of the village 4 km out in the horizon on tour photo! As said not important for my use. The Dawn Tech units I have, has a string connected, which you fit to the strap-ring, but to screw it into the 10-pin socket is a nightmare, if you do not have piano-fingers, and I do not have. I also keep my GPS on, so you have to remember to turn the camera same way, when putting into your photo bag not to damage the connection. A couple of months ago I have a problem, that it was not functioning at all, when I was in Lung Cu, Vietnam, which is a couple of kilometer from the border to China. The GPS started lightening constant red, which meant it was constantly switch on, and I had no idea what to do for the rest of my photo tour. I sent a email from my phone to Dawn Tech HKG and a couple of hours later I had a reply. The reason for the malfunction, however, is still not known, but I am positive, it has something to do with the big army placements on both sides of the border! Only “problem” I have had – service is better than excellent from Cecilia Cheng.

  12. thank you very much for your suggestions. One thing is to find the film and another is a seller, who ship to Vietnam, which is not normal any more. I managed to find one from AliExpress, then I will see how it is functioning
  13. What type of film are you using to protect the LCD screens on your Nikon houses ? I used Invisible Shield product years ago, however, they only have for smartphones etc. now!
  14. and even fewer money, otherwise I would have told I had order a Z7 -:)
  15. I thank everybody for their comments. I admit, that for me it was more a “cosmetic” issue, as I am aware, that I easily can see on the Mode Dial, but I obviously have a habit not looking to the left, as my Nikon have been D200,300,700 and now 810, and a very short period D90, so my first camera with a Mode Dial on the left. When I turn on the camera the other day it showed a X, which I found an explanation for the manual, so my simple mind just assumed that space on the control panel was for the Mode icons. Rodeo_Joe|1 - I have not yet touched the U1 and U2 mode, may be later, as this camera is a backup only, I definitely prefer my D810 and and hopefully soon the replacement for the D850 with 2 cards -:) I thank all of you for your contribution to teach me a lesson.

  17. We have a D7200 camera, which some family members asked for but never use, so I have decided to include it as a backup together with D700 for my D810. I have therefore looked at the settings and noticed that the Mode icon is blank instead of P,M,A,S and cannot find anything in the manual , which should give that situation. I note that an X can replace the above icons in connection with flash synch, but even that I cannot get. I have updated to the latest firmware and reset to factory settings and made my own preferred settings, and still it appear with a blank space – both immediately after update and after my own settings. I can get every information by using the “info” bottom and see the icon on the LCD screen on the back, but it is a little cumbersome, even if I do not change mode from M that often during a shoot. Is there somebody with a solution to this issue??
  18. rodeo_joe|1 - It is a relatively new law from EU regarding personal information, and I have had to sign agreements with banks, pension companies, insurance companies and clubs etc. that I allow them to use information related to me as per that law. To be honest I have not read it, but what I understand, it is close to the previous French law in that respect, which was more strict than the laws of other European countries. I only asked, as it is a discussion pt between street photographers, and I occasional also bring my camera along to Europe - living in Vietnam it is 100x easier, I have only knowledge of proff. photographers and models, who legalize the shoot. I admit, I have no knowledge of the situation in UK, but I assume it will soon be the previous law, which is valid. I agree there is a difference between, what I had to sign and situations in public area, which obviously still is a matter of interpretation by the court, and many photographers are awaiting the first cases, but do not want themself to be the first -:)
  19. According to a relative new law regarding photos of street portraits taken in Europe, it is obviously become very important to have a ”model release form” in case you want to publish/sell a photo. There are several apps on the market both for IOS and Android, where you can change language, text attach a photo of the person involved, signature, but I have failed to find any information, how you give a copy of the signed release form. It could of course be a function sending it to the persons email address, however I can easily foresee, that somebody does like to give the email address to a stranger with a camera. How are you handling such situations?
