1. Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to respond! Awesome advice. I am glad, it sounds Im not too far off from having all i need to take some awesome pics.. =)

now...To Prime or not to Prime for the zoom, now that is the question...hmmm....Ill have to give this some thought.

And, yes..these are my lenses now..

    EF 28mm to135mm F3.5 to F5.6IS USM and

    EF-S17mm to55mm F2.8 IS USM

I had no idea there was such a huge difference in power with the 580ex flash!? I was going to get one of those soon, since I can use the slave mode on it to set off one of the 430ex on a stand or something. any thoughts on this?

    William, What is H&S portraiture?

And yes, I plan on shooting RAW this year for the first time. i know i know. guilty as charged.

Thanks in advance for your response. =)

  2. Last year was my first season freelancing...round two starts this spring.

Although, I am more confident this year, being as learned a lot over the course

of 6 weddings last season. but, Im still nervous!

I made some mistakes, but I think , overall..am headed in the right direction..

If you could please check out my web page that would be awesome! (i know its

really slow, I would just like C&C on the Images themselves pretty please! )

I am looking on investing more in my equipment this year, and would love your

input on what kind of gear I should get next.

I know I need a good zoom lens (any recommendations?)

Here is what I have so far...

    Canon 40D

    Canon Rebel xti

    (2) 430ex flash

    17-55mm 2.8

    28-135mm

    50mm 1.8

    10-17 fisheye

    (2) 4BG chips (should I be shooting on several smaller chips to avoid loosing

pics in the case of a bad chip??)

    tripod

    shutter release cable

  3. "When I get this kind of crud I just let loose with a stream of photo-geek talk until their eyes glaze over; I go on about exposure latitude, bit depth, raw file conversion, characteristic curves, dynamic range, compression and expansion of tonal range, etc... Then I look them right in the eye (with a hard glint of artist's elitism in mine), and tell them firmly, and with a straight face that it doesn't matter what what gear I use; I could shoot their wedding with disposables, and the photos will ROCK!!! They either think I'm a genius or insane or both. ;)"

    LOL! awesome.

  4. A: `Well I mainly shoot Canon: but I guess you might be looking at a something like a wall mural? we`d use a `bald or even a Toyo for that: would you like me to add a wall mural shoot to your Wedding Package?`

ha ha!! i love it! I totally should have said that!

and as for Jon's response. I was very sure of my answers...they had a list a mile long! and i answered each one with pure confidence! It was the later of the emails and phone calls that were driving me nuts! more questions! after an extensive "interview" process! it was starting to get annoying.

And, in the end id didnt really matter. they lagged on their decision, and I booked someone else yesterday for that day! hurray!

Im new to this forum and am so grateful for the involvement from everyone! what a great site! i look forward to learning a whole lot more from all you guys this year!

    Cheers!

  5. oh my goodness!! what response! thanks everyone for your input. I really appreciate it!

I get the feeling they are they are asking me these questions out of a wedding planning book.

I had originally responded to this question with "I use Canon" at our meeting, but they later asked in an email to specify what type. I have, in the meantime , told them.

I just sensed a lack of confidence in my work from all the questioning. And the last thing I want is a customer with lack of confidence in me! Maybe its my own confidence that needs some help.

I am still learning, my prices are cheap, and my equipment will do the trick. I shouldt be ashamed of what model cam i have!

So...thanks everyone for all your advice. and wish me luck!

  6. I have some clients asking what model camera i use? how many mega pixels is it?

    etc etc..

I am using a Canon 40D as my primary camera...nothing fancy (i am in my first

year of business), Ive got some awesome lenses and a great eye though, and thats

    really all that matters right?

I feel like saying "its a canon. you've seen my work. do you want to hire me or

not?" (ha ha ha jk!) but...really...do I just divulge all the technical info

    about my equipment?

  7. I love millers flush mount albums. They are wonderful. But Im looking for a coffee table

book. I have not been impressed with millers hard back books.

AUto Album? I will check it out.

Any other album software i should know about? I guess thats what i really need.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

  8. Hello. A friend of mine just recently received a "mini purse album" from her photographer. Its leather,

about 2 in by 3 in. comes in a little black bag, its great! I cant find anyone who carries these!

Does anyone offer these to their clients?

I have been using Asuka Book and Millers leather flush mount albums. Is there a great company out there

that has EVERYTHING? Id love to stick with ordering from one high quality company.

    Thanks so much!
