1. Hello! What are those portable shade things called? I was going to make one, but someone said i should just buy

one. I want it for cool spots that are in direct sun. any suggestions? i would like one big enough for a whole

fam portrait. I guess i need an assistant on the shoot then? to hold the thing? not really sure how they work or

what they look like. any help would be greatly appreciated! =)

  2. Im shooting at this exact same venue at the same time this weekend. I am looking to improve any way possible on

the images (technically speaking). Any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Here are my pics from last week...

  3. i have both too. i love them both! thats such a hard question! the zoom is much more practical, but i LOVE the results of my 85mm when i throw it on there for portraits. its awesome. i dont shoot sports, so im not sure which would be better for you.

i had the 70-200, but replaced it with primes... 135mm and 85mm. good luck!

  4. rebecca,

work at wal-mart?! my goodness.. i wont even shop there! i mean, aside from it being wal-mart , id be making the same

amount of $ in a week that i would make in a day doing what im doing now!

generally, I have not had problems w multiple children. my package is only for 45 minutes. I am focused on quality , not

quantity. I like children being themselves, not sitting like a bump on a log smiling that half smile you see from pics at

places like sears and jcpennys. all the pics are the same..just with different people in them.

As a photogs assist.I do it every weekend at weddings. move dad in, move gma out, move sisters in.. etc... i know the

    drill.

its just not really the look im going for with my portraits.

  5. Nadine,

Yes, you make some wonderful points. I just offered to attempt to get one shot of all three kids. my plan...put em all in a cute red wagon..try to get them to look at me (i know she wants one where they are all looking) with bubbles maybe, and if all else fails, hand em each a big rainbow lollipop!? at least they will be happy!

and, yes, about charging more for my time, thats what i was thinking too...Theres no way i could get all those multiple shots with these kids in less than an hour. thats kinda what i tried doing, and it took me far too long, and..made for some horrible shots with overtired kids! it would definitely have to be two sessions. for the kids sake and mine!

ill repost when i re-shoot! *sigh .. here we go again..

  6. sarah, thanks. good advice. i appreciate everyones input!

what im thinking is, to charge per a pose . I mean...when someone has a big family..where do you draw the line?

mom with kids, dad with kids, kids alone, kids all together... etc.

i try cramming it in an hour, and my work just suffers from it.

Does anyone offer kids portrait packages VS family portrait packages separately?

  7. wow! sounds like im way off base price wise! ha ! the hard part is finding a price that suits me now, while im starting. its hard to keep upping the price right? thats what i keep doing. i feel like just saying..what the heck! im not even going to offer the proofs at all. and figure out a price down the road. ?? hmm

ya, my friends recently got married and took a family photo of me and my kids and hubby, and i went online to buy it.. $65 for a 4x6!! $250 or something to buy the digital negative. i was blown away!! i cant afford that, so i was so bummed.

i guess there is a middle ground, i just have to find it.

  8. oh god, now looking at it next to those other ones makes it look horrible! eek. im thinking of just deleating the damn thing. its a horrible pic really. i just didnt get any good ones of all three kids! do i offer a re-shoot? i know they really wanted a pic of all the kids together.
  9. wow! $1500! I have been selling mine for $100. even if im just starting, it sounds like im way off.

well, i wouldnt call these people good friends. (i mean, i didnt even get the wal-mart xmas card from them!) thats why I dont know what to do in this situation.

thanks for your input, i appreciate it.

  10. thanks victor . that looks cool. Im gonna have to mess around with it in PS.

I like the smarties idea, since they are not messy.

these parents would not have been cool with a lolly pop. I had to convince them to not let their kids wear shoes. they were freaking out about them getting dirty too.

  11. Hello. I have an acquaintance whom I recently took newborn pics for.

Last year when i did their x-mas photos, they asked if they could have the disk. I gave it to them as a favor, and

come to find out they made x-mas cards with it. (probably from wal mart or something)

So, this time, they expected the disk. I said I would give it to them as a baby shower gift. But, I tried to make

it clear that if they wanted birth announcments, they would have to be through me. Thats fair right?

Here is the link to their pics..what do you think?

I have had similar problems with people using my pics for things.. I dont think I am going to offer the disk to

anyone anymore (well..maybe for a lot of $$)). what do you other photogs do?

  12. First off, let me say I LOVE millers albums. they are beautiful. However, their album builder is not MAC

compatible, so i have to use the composite designer to make the layouts through labprints, upload, email them my

order #, and then have them assembled in an album.

And half the time, the prints are printed, and shipped to me w/o being assembled into the album. so then i have

to send them back...yadda yadda. How can a major company like Millers not have mac compatible software!!??

So, what are some alternatives for mac users? anyone else uploading through labprints to a different lab that

    carries albums?

    thank you! =) Lori
