1.
That kinda reminds me of my brother's situation. He also has a dSLR, but always wants to have a camera on him. Mostly because he has a "photo journal" where he posts one picture a day on his website, so he has to shoot something every day. He's a student and it's a way for his mom to see what he's up to while he's away at college. His P&S is a Canon SD110. It's small, fits in a shirt pocket and has a metal case. The metal has dings and tons of wear from daily use, but it holds up great. You can see images from that camera at

  2. I basicly need to duplicate what the olympic photographers were

using. I'm shooting events and need to WiFi my images to a server.

The distance from the camera to the server will be within 300 feet

and will aways be line of sight. The reason I can't just use a

Nikon/Canon WiFi attachment is because we'll be shooting faster than

the camera can send and we'll fill the buffer.

I need to shoot to a laptop (via USB or firewire) and let the laptop

spool the images and WiFi them to the server. Who makes spooling

    software like that?

    Thanks!

    Ben

  3. once again, you guys rock! You answered all my questions! Steve, The Canon looks awesome, but it would be a real big deal for me to switch. I bought an F5 and convinced my family into following, so I could borrow their lenses (my wife then bought an F4s, then my brother bought an F5 and F100 and my 2 sisters each bought F100's). If I switch, I miss out on a plethora of free PRO lenses.

    Thanks again guys!

  4. I don't want to reinvent the wheel or do much testing on my own. I

want to buy what works for the pros...the first time.

    I'm switching from an F5 to a D2H. I mainly shoot sports. I'm

strictly a film guy, so forgive me if my digital terminology is off.

    1) Do you shoot in RAW, .tif or .jpg format? Do you still get 8fps in

    RAW format?

    2) How many meg is 1 exposure in the format you shoot? (this will

help me choose a memory card size)

    3) Are microdrives too slow for you? If so, do you use a CF card with

    a write accelerator (WA)?

    4) Will a set of batteries last you a full football/basketball game?

If not what external power source do you use?

    Thanks!! Ben

  5. I had a print due today for a photo contest I entered. I got a late

start on shooting (I didn't learn about the contest until recently) ,

and I didn't turn in my film for processing until yesterday. I use

E&J Photolab in Dublin CA for alot of my stuff. I turned it into the

owner to cross-process into slides and he said he could have it done

by 1PM. By the time I got back to the lab, it was 2. I asked Eric

if I could make 2 8x12s and he said he could have them by 6PM

(closing time). I went back to work, lost track of time and paniced

when I saw the time was 6:20. I called the lab, but no one

answered. I drove by and banged on the doors. I knew they were

closing shop until Monday, because of the holiday, so I figured I

just blew the contest. Standing outside the shop, I called one more

time and left a voicemail for Eric to get on Monday.

This morning Eric called. He told me he was sorry he didn't get the

message until this morning (jeeze) and told me to meet him at the

lab. He gave me my prints, didn't charge me a rush, and I got my

photos turned in just in time.

This isn't an isolated incident either. What a great lab!! E&J 925-

829-0222. Someone from Photo.net turned me onto them about a year

    ago. Happy Thanksgiving!!
