1. I plan on retiring in the next two years from my 30+ years in youth sports photography on the central coast of

    California.

I have an established business, with about 50 contracts, (regular dates) with local sports, gymnastics, dance, schools, and organizations. Although I run the business from my home the growth potential is excellent. We are strickly on site photographers (no retail studio). The business has a gross profit of approximately $70K per year.

What would a business like this be worth? (contacts, accounts, web site, email, supplies etc.) I run this business full time, but it could be done as a part time business. Granted it is a small business, but with some work it could easily grow. Is this business worth selling? Or should I sell the contacts to another photographer? Or possibly to one of my competitors? What do you think its worth? Of course my current customers would have the option using the new owners, or not.

    Any opinions?

    Thank you

  2.
Hi
I have a Super Ikonta 533/16 that I am not familiar with. The Shutter appears to be jammed, or
possibly locked. The shutter cocks, but when pressed the shutter will not
fire. Is there a locking button preventing the shutter from firing? The shutter cock lever is now stuck
in place. I have no film for this camera Any help?

Thanks
3.
Thanks for all your imput guys. My question still remains, why do so many photogs mention
using more than one printer? Is it merely a backup, or to keep running while you change ribbons? How often do you need to change these? There is still several places selling supplies for the Kodak models.
I would be purchasing the machine used, there are no rentals for these in California

  4.
Carl
Thanks for the input! What model printer are you using? My biggest question is, do
you think this would require two printers? We will be able to have prints ready within in
a few minitues, however, I want to allow time, for editing, cutting, unforseen problems, like paper jams, etc.
The only reason we are printing 200 photos is they are pre-paid by the event organizers. I'm sure sojme particpants will forget to return to pick up their pictures. Although we usually offer additional copies, these will probably be mailed, since there may not be time for extra printing.

  5.
Hello
I am a professional photogapher of thirty years. I have a couple of events which would
like to have their photos printed on site, instead of mailing, or ordering online.
I have never done on site printing (I always thought this would cheapen the product/quality), however
I am not the customer!
So, I am checking into using the Kodak 6850, what else is needed? Do we need to dedicate a laptop
directly for prinnting? Is a camera thethered to laptop, or is it better to transfer SD cards? Special software? I am assuming the paper for either 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 comes in rolls, so we also need a cutter?? We need to be able to produce 200- 400 prints, package and labeled. One hour wait time for customers to receive their prints? (participants are at the event for the entire day)
Do we need more than one printer to handle this volume?
Currently we do these same events, and transfer photos on SD cards, customers can view them on laptops, and all photos are mailed to them. All participants also receive two prints, by mail, paid by the event.
Last year, however the event organizers wanted to switch to a photographer who would do on site printing.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
6.
Any professional photographers have success with online sales for youth sports? (little league, pop warner) I have a established business using order forms, however we have some request for this service. We have posted a few jobs online in the past we very little success, even with the customer purchasing a discount voucher, for buying photos. Right now I have a small job online, out of 26 voucher sales, only two customers have purchased photos. They have received 2 e-mail reminders, and its been two weeks since picture day. How do you get these customers to go online and order? Any ideas?

thanks
9.
I have a standard Nikon 18-70 3.5 lens and I want to move up to something sharper. I have never been happy with the AF sharpness and this lens. Currently shooting with a D100 and a D70s, both with the same results.
I can afford the Sigma lens 17-70 f2.8 (cannot afford a Nikon version), and a friend recomended it. Will there be an improvement in the Auto focus? Or is the AF mainly in the camera body? I shoot mainly portraits and group shots.

thanks
10.
Hi-
I have had both by D70s and D100 for serveral years. The auto focus appears to be inconsistent,(i noticed it the first time I used the D70 new, and with both bodies, and figured it was a characteristic of auto focus) and is getting worse lately. Typically on a shoot, with the D70, the focus is fine for the first 30 shots or so, and then quits focusing. I have tried the different focus settings. I am shooting mostly portraiture ASA 200. It either won't fire (when set to autofocus), or sometime focuses on the wrong part of the subject. Manual focus is fine, but I have come to rely on the autofocus mode. I tried to get the lens, I use the most time (18-70), serviced, and they could not find a problem. It happens with different lens. Any ideas?

thanks
11.
When you shoot elementary and middle schools, who need ID cards, do you shoot a separate image? OR crop your original jpg? I notice the ID card images are 1.5 x 2" pixels (for the ID card manufacture), and only head shots, where normally I would shoot a 3/4 pose for a school portrait. Do you just crop images individually, or shoot a seperate shot? I have never shot for ID cards, shoot only pre-schools. Last time I shot a Elementary was in 1987. (pre ID cards) But I have a school to shoot next week, and I really need to know.
thanks
12.
Hi-
I am trying to change the auto focus mode on my D100. The control panel screen, has the single area brackets, but they are in the top portion of the box. What does this mean, how do you place the bracket in the center of the focus mode display box?

  13.
Is it possible to get faster sync speeds, than 1/250, with the higher end Nikon DSLR's? I have a D100 and a D70s, shooting sports, I need a faster sync speed. However, I only have Norman lighting equipment, (three units and multiple batteries) so I am not interested in the Nikon strobes.
According to Nikon these bodies sync at 1/500, but is that only with the SB800? Is there a Nikon body that syncs faster?
thanks
ba

  14.
Hi-

I do a few event/sports where I use Nikon Camera Control Pro,(images appear on laptop immediately, without uploading) and parents can view images on a laptop to order.
However, I would like to be able to link 2-3 laptops together, for more viewing options, without having to load the files separately to each PC. ( It takes to much time, and my sales assistants often mix up the memory cards, etc.)
thanks
BA

  15.
Has anyone ever tried to use Nikon Camera Control software, and send the image to two laptops at the same time? Or do you have any suggestions for showing photographs on site, to groups. I have seen setups involving several laptops, but I cannot afford anything that ellaborate. Just looking to serve more customers at the same time. In the past we did not use camera control and tried to upload memory cards to each PC, definetely a nightmare with a line of people waiting!
any help appreciated
