  1. As indicated in the initial post. This is one that I'm thinking of maybe rescanning at a higher resolution, which may enable me to address (at least partially if not completely) the problems you (Barry) point out. Aside from that. Did I capture the impression I got from her demeanor?
  2. Thanks all for the comments\critiques, etc. I may not always mention it, but they are much appreciated.
  3. Unlike the "Waiting For A Fare" post. This one (though candid) was much more deliberate. Agra is famous for The Taj Mahal (tomb\mausoleum for Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz), but that's not the only one there. The area or park (not quite sure what to call it) is an entire complex of tombs and mausoleums. The one in these two pics belongs to a Muslim saint or Holy Man. It's the back. Woman aren't or weren't allowed in the front (at least in 1990 they weren't). I don't know what occasion or situation caused her to be there, but I got the distinct impression (from her demeanor), that it wasn't a happy one. Did I capture that? The first image is how it came out of the scanner, and I am thinking of maybe rescanning at a higher resolution and possibly re-editing.
  4. Regarding that "work in progress part". I haven't thought of it in those terms, but in essence, that is what I post. It may be an image like this which I may have long since thought was done or something which I may be currently working on. With the former it helps me decide whether to put it back in the completions pile or move it to the to be reconsidered pile. With the latter its continue working and take that comment or critique into account.
  5. Good point! I hadn't noticed, but it may very well be. As kmac said (rather than waiting for a fare he may very well have been desperate for one). Mike, regarding your observation about flash. I don't remember (it was over 30 years ago) but I probably did use flash (it was a night shot) , and the editing was done when I was far less familiar with the process. Sam, regarding your comment about "stark and somewhat harsh curiosity". It was to some extent a pretty stark scene and while I may not have particularly thought of it (at the time) in terms like starkness and\or desperation (as kmac observed) they are appropriate to the image. Aside from that the comments and critiques have been helpful, and while I may not have particularly thought of this image as a work in progress before, that's changed and it goes into the "to be reconsidered folder".
  6. Yes! I don't particularly think I was conscious of it at the time (not completely anyway), but after looking at the print later (after we got home), I realized that was probably the case. This was a grab shot. We were actually boarding the bus or van (whatever it was to get back to our hotel at the time). As you can see it was a night shot, and as I recall it was pretty chilly. All the other pedicabs were long gone, and this guy was just standing there, holding that blanket tight around him, hoping.
  7. Don't know why the color version came up twice, certainly didn't intend it that way......Izzy
  8. Delhi India 1990. Comments, critiques, welcome.
  9. Take heart Charles. I'm working on a V3 version that takes into account Mike's suggestion of cropping out the woman exiting, and my concern of breathing room (so to speak) for the boy......Izzy
  10. OK! Here it is. Couldn't figure out how to do the shelf thing I mentioned in the previous post (that was V2 plan A), so I went with V2Alt (plan B, no shelf). Cropped a sliver off the left side and a little more off the bottom and voila` here it is.
  11. With apologies to Charles (I hope you don't mind). (G) Here's where the version 2 stands right now. You can pretty much see where I'm going with this. In this version, that blue awning (I think) is a distraction. That being the case, I'm trying to get rid of it by turning it into what I'll call a shelf (for lack of a better term) or the top part of those two blocks of stone just below and to the left of that balcony (or whatever it is). Not quite sure how to show the joints going back along that slope to the back wall and the balcony (basically defining the edges of those two blocks). Hope I've explained it well enough. Any suggestions?
  12. Mike, Sam, good points both. The woman exiting bothered me too but cropping her out I felt wouldn't leave much breathing room for the boy. Cropping him out I felt would crowd the two woman. Cropping out the shoppers (as Sam pointed out) wasn't a good idea either. Taking another look however did result in a plan. Stay tuned.
  13. Current project = getting images cataloged and keyworded. In the process I come across stuff that hasn't been edited but I think should be. This was one of them. This is the edited version. Comments, critiques, suggestions for future reference, etc. welcome
  14. OK! Got the location for #2 "Halletts Pass". Still looking for #1
  15. As I understand it, an image (in this case a photograph). I supposed to tell a story or elicit some kind of feeling or thought (hopefully positive or at least not overly negative) or both, in a viewer. If it does that. It's a success. This image wins on both counts. First of all is the composition. Off center placement of the main subject. Diagonal lines leading the eye into the frame. Use of grayscale (whether by choice or accident) rather than color (for this particular image). Etc. Good Comp.! Now for the story part. A kid. Mid teens 16 or 17 is sitting on what appears to be some kind of loading dock which is no longer in use as evidenced by what appears to be blocked off bays. Going by the way the kid is dressed the weather is warm (late spring, early summer, maybe just a place that doesn't get particularly cold). He's reading a paper (possibly the help wanted ads). He's looking for work (part-time, full-time, temporary). Maybe he went to that loading dock (if that's what it is) looking for work, found it closed, and now he's looking to see if he can find anything someplace else.
  16. Going through some old files. Came across these two from Rocky Mountain National Park in September or October of 1999. Can anybody ID them? Thanks in advance.....Izzy
