Yep. B&H has them for the same price. If I "need" a 70-200mm lens I'll go with the Tamron.

-
I just got my K-5II a couple of
months ago. Oh well. I still love
it!

I have the Pentax DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3. It is a good lens. It's not a great lens, but for a walk around
lens, outdoors it does a nice job. As was said it is no longer made and it was based on the Tamron lens.
Tamron lenses do a nice job so if you can find one go ahead and pick one up. If you have the money give
the newer 18-270mm a try.

You're welcome VJ!

I'm glad you were able to take advantage of cyber Monday. I think you will love the camera, it should give you years of enjoyment. I hope to join you and get myself a new K-5 next year.

Enjoy it!

Markus is evil.

I thought I had a pretty nice Takumar collection, then he mentions he has the absolute best one; an SMC 85mm f/1.8 Takumar. Sigh.

-

I have the 105mm f/2.8 Super-Tak too. Great lens. I also have the 85mm f/1.9 Super-Tak my favorite Takumar. Also a SMC 135/3.5. The rest are all Super Taks: 28, 35, 50, 55, 135/2.5 and 200mm.

If I put the 85/1.9, 135/2.5 and anything else along with my K10D with battery grip in my bag it becomes quite a load. No plastic in those lenses!

Markus, any thoughts on landing a Silver 31mm f/1.8 Limited? It would look so good on that silver K-5. (Starting trouble over here ;-)

-

Beautiful camera and lens setup. Oh to have a limited.
Too bad there are not any silver Takumars... that I'm aware of. Which ones do you have?

-

The sad thing for me is I'm the one posted this and I can't take advantage of it. Still relying on my ol' K10D. Next year... yeah after all the other bills are paid off.

I don't think there has ever been a better time to get a K-5. Not at these prices anyway! Happy Cyber Monday!
Just wish I had a grand to spare...

Marketing is important to spread the name of the brand. Hopefully Ricoh understands this better than Pentax alone did.

-

Those are some simple but interesting images. Very well done. I'm hoping for a K-5 at some point. For now I'm still using my old K10D. Solid camera.

What is the difference between a Limited lens made in Japan and one made in Vietnam?

-

Looks like Canon is just sticking a toe in the color pool. When they strike out with some bold bright Pentax colors then we will will know or sure they are serious!

As most of us have said SLR and DSLR photography is mostly about the lenses. Scott makes a very good point:

Of course, it seems to me that the lens quality of the Sigma system - even the Sigma EX lenses - is somewhat limited. Most Canon L lenses and some Nikon lenses are superior. Given this fact, I suspect that any advantage the SD1 has over Nikon and Canon (and Sony) will quickly evaporate...

It's all about the glass is what I often hear. So you can have full frame, cropped sensor, film, digital, medium format, et al. But if you don't have good or superior glass for that given format your images will not be the best they can be (to a degree). Obviously I'm not saying the best lenses make you a better photographer...

How good are the new lenses for the Pentax 645D? There are two now and more (?) in the pipeline. My guess is lenses for Hasselblad, Mamiya and Phase One are superior for those high end cameras. Superior prices too. Nikon and Canon? Top end glass is available throughout the ranges. They have it covered.

I won't even pretend to try to understand what Sigma is thinking with this camera but for their sake I hope it works out for them.

Most on this forum have seen or mentioned seeing Ringo Star in A Hard Days Night using a Pentax camera. A Spotmatic I think it was.

But has anyone seen American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe? Crowe plays an undercover cop investigating a drug kingpin in Harlem during the 1970's. In the early part of the movie the cops are taking picture after picture in scene after scene with Asahi Pentax cameras! See photos in this link from Pentaxeros.com.

I guess I didn't make this clear. I didn't write the article and it is not my website. I just found the site while looking for K-5 reviews and thought this one was particularly interesting and would be useful to readers in this forum. It was written by Jim Radcliffe and it is his web site. http://www.boxedlight.com/index.htm Rather than give just the technical info on the camera he gives his actual impressions that he had experienced while using it.

Sorry for the confusion, I had no intention of claiming credit for this gentleman's excellent work.

One of the reasons I upgraded to firmware version 1.31 was so I would be able to use SDM lenses. I plan on renting/buying them in the future. I can't see going back to an older version, even if I could, just to meter our old lenses?

I few insights on the K-5.

Nice photo Jonathan. I'm contemplating renting the DA*200mm or the DA*300mm for sports. Have you considered the 200mm? Might be better for getting the lens into ballparks as some ballparks (Minute Maid) limit the length of lens you can bring in.

I have read that it is a better lens overall in some aspects other than the extra reach in focal length of course.

Jeremiah,
Hope you got the firmware you wanted from Antoni.
I have a K10D with firmware version 1.31 and use M42 lenses too but I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say you lost your meter when you mount older lenses. What were you expecting and what, if anything, am I missing?

I remember Bill Cosby actually ran in the Penn Relays while he was doing the"The Cosby Show". He was in some kind of senior division as I recall. He used event in one of his episodes as he ran against an old rival.
I know what you mean by cheap 70-300mm lenses. I used one with a Nikon D90 to get some photos of a lacrosse match. Got some pretty good shots with it too.

-

Well done. Love the photos. May have to rent that lens some day.

-

I agree with Trent and R.T., I have the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro too and would recommend it highly. I would think any of the Limited lens would be worth having and the 70/2.4 is a good choice.

That doesn't sound good. That "clicking crunching" scares me. Along withe the sluggish operation and slow startup sounds like an electrical problem. Best to just send it in for service.
