It's not easy to capture a landscape shot this strong on a cloudy day. The grey sky tends to make everything look flat and drab and the best you can usually hope for is a B&W shot with some nice mood. But you've done a great job here of taking advantage of what looks to be a bit of sunshine lighting up the leaves. The ripples in the lake add the perfect amount of movement and interest and even the clouds add some drama with their patterns. Really well done!

Wow, my apologies Victor. That's really weird... in the few seconds it took for me to look at your name and then type it into my reply, some corner of my brain apparently decided to substitute an entirely different one. I have no clue why or how. Anyway, my apologies again and I really appreciate that you took the time to comment on my photo.

Thank you both for the kind words. This was shot in Glacier National Park in Montana. More specifically it is the St. Mary Valley.
Ramon, the wrap-around effect is not due to any lens aberration. I suppose you could call it an optical illusion of sorts. I was positioned just about dead-center of the valley and the mountains on both the left and right were angled toward me in a "U" pattern. I did try using a wider angle lens which added to the effect but did not provide a more pleasing image so I have not posted any of those on photo.net.

Please view this image at a larger size before rating. There's a
good amount of detail that just won't show at the tiny size on the
rating screen. All comments and critiques welcome, thanks for
looking!

Erin, if you're just starting out and already producing images of this quality then you are doing very well indeed. This is a nice pose that shows some creativity on your part. The black lace adds a lot of texture and interest to the shot and it gives an air of both elegance and sex appeal. The model is very pretty and I can see just enough of her smile to make her endearing. Well done, and please keep posting more.

If you leave a 3/3, please critique. Thanks for looking...

Since you asked for critiques, I will offer my observations for whatever they're worth. I like the angle and the basic approach to the shot. I also like her blouse both for the color and the bead work. It might have been a good idea to focus tightly on the beads from different angles for a somewhat more abstract image.
There are a number of things that you might want to consider changing. She has a particularly large blemish on her breast that is distracting and could easily be removed in editing software. The shot also feels underexposed rather than moody. Lighting a shot like this is tricky and you might want to experiment more to find just the right setup. The striped cloth behind her head is distracting. Finally, I wonder if this would be improved if you had set up the shot so that her lower stomach didn't show up... the bright blue at the bottom of the frame draws attention from her bust and face where you want it to be.
I realize that I've made quite a few critical observations but I also meant it when I said that I like the basic approach to the shot and I hope you won't take offense. I normally wouldn't post something like this but you seemed to want the feedback. Best of luck, and keep shooting!

Leah, I understand all too well that these cute little critter don't often hold their poses while we try multiple angles, focal lengths, and exposure settings! I love photographing animals but it seems I rarely if ever capture them as perfectly as I hope to.
In terms of contrast, it looks like you shot this on a cloudy day and the light is just a little flat. Some photos suffer terribly from that effect but this one is actually quite nice as it is. Pumping up the contrast simply makes the brightest parts brighter and the darkest parts darker and can be a big help bringing dead looking photos to life. Even the most basic editing software should have this capability and many photos benefit from a mild boost to contrast.
I've attempted the contrast adjustment on this photo myself and it turns out to be a modest improvement at best. I was going to attach a copy so you could see, but couldn't figure out how!

This photo is an amazing accomplishment. What could be a more prosaic subject than a simple SUV parked in front of a home? Yet you have used the colors and composition to make this a remarkable image. Very well done!

Any feedback welcome.

Leah, the expression on his face is just priceless. Unfortunately, the image takes a big hit from having the lower half of his body cropped out. It would probably also benefit from a modest boost to contrast in your editing software of choice. Thanks for posting this shot, that little smile of his is adorable.

Great use of color combined with a strong composition. Shots like this prove the power of keeping it simple. An excellent shot, really well done.

Younes, I sharpened it as much as I could without negatively impacting the image. Something about the highly saturated oranges starts to interact with the sharpening in a way that doesn't help when pushed past the point it is now.
I have another image similar to this one but taken at sunrise with less vivid oranges that stands up to sharpening much better. Unofortunately, it also needs to be viewed as a large print to really have the detail come out so I haven't posted it here.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words and the suggestion. I agree that more sharpening would not be a bad thing and perhaps I'll play with Photoshop a bit to see if I can manage it without the artifacting getting out of hand.

Kieran, I viewed this larger and that helps, but it still comes across as a field of black with pin pricks of light scattered around. My suggestion would be to crop at least half of the less densely lit areas to bring out more detail of what's left when viewed at the size allowed on a monitor. You might also want to consider pumpimg up the contrast so the lit areas "pop" more. That's just my view, of course, and it's probably worth exactly what it cost you... nothing. Good luck and keep shooting!

To be appreciated, this photo really needs to be viewed at the Larger
size. Hope you enjoy it...

What a great shot of a kitten that looks so hopeful and sad all at once. Really well done!

Just wanted to congratulate you on a very nice shot of the Bellagio. I've shot the water show myself and never thought to position the camera at the far southern end of the hotel like this so that it would also capture Caesar's Palace. It's a very nice way to frame the shot. Most people either do a frontal view the Bellagio or shoot from behind the water so that they capture Paris in the background. Well done for finding a new approach to an often photographed location!

This is a very nice shot and a great start for your photo.net portfolio. I like that her face is not in the shot and the corset strings add a lot of visual interest with criss-cross pattern going up her abdomen. It's sexy but still subtle which is also nice. Congratulations and keep posting more images!
