  1. hi again, may be some of you still remember the post i made last week regarding

which cam to go for the replacement of my 400D, 40D or 5D.

well, just got the 5D. i'm happy shooting it specially on my purpose, night

shots & shallow DOP. but sometime, it hunts on very low light situations. i'm

shooting most of the time in Av mode, so in the same situation, shuter time

slows down resulting in image blur even at iso1600.

now, my question is. will the hunting & slow shuter be solved if upgraded to

50/1.4? if yes, how about IQ, will i gain, loose, or remain?

can someone who upgraded from 1.8 to 1.4 give your experience regarding the

    issue?!...

    thanks alot!

  2. guys, guys... cool down abit. =) the reason why i sold my 400D is because of

    http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00OAML

i think we have if not a split descision here. 50/1.8 is a good glass, we all know that. but why some are over reacting when this good glass is attached to 5D? does 50/1.8 doesn't deserve to be fitted onto 5D? offcoarse 1.8 will not outperform 1.4(?) and most off all, 1.2L. but it doesnt mean that its not performing well. right?!

i think some of you just ove reacted with 5D+50/1.8 combo. i stated in my question that its the only EF lens i have for now and asking for some reference image.

just posted some question regarding my plans, here it is.

    http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00OEiC

derek, i think you just searched 50/1.8 and not 50/1.8 on 5D. but thanks anyway.

  3. just sold my 400D to give way to a bigger body. the item left with me are

    430ex, 50/1.8ii, & 17-85is which is for sale. assuming i sold the 17-85is to

have a budget of $2200~2300 to spend. which way to go?

    5D and be contented with 50/1.8 (~$2200)

    or

    40D and 17-55/2.8 is (~$2300)

    or

    other recommendation

i know both combinations are greate but it depends on what type of shooting i'm

going to take. my shooting style is more on night time walk around.

may be this question have been asked gazillion times but my appology for being

    abit lazy to search.

  4. hi, just sold my 400D to get 40D or 5D.

if i get 5D, my only EF lens is 50/1.8. and it would take some time for me to

    buy EF zoom.

just would like to see some images taken with this combination. can some 1 post

image/s or a link to which i can veiw diffrent images taken with it.

    thanks!

  5. "I suggest getting a bracket"

thanks for your inputs specially the bracket thing, but i would loose versatility if i bring along that one.

"1.5 hours is NOT a long time: RSI is an important issue."

its my first take for a wedding, and as a gift for the couples. usually my cam is stapped in the neck while walking around the street that's why i dont feel that strain until yesterday. 1.5hrs of continous shots landscape and portrait positions.

  6. i dont agree with you joseph since i have both of that 2 lens you've mentioned. i dont see any significant difference between the two, specially out on the street. may be most of us is expecting too much on 1785is because of its price, but its still a decent general purpose glass. 1855is beats 1785is only in weight, price and the new 4stop-is. who can tell if your only using 2,3, or 4 stop is? but build quality, range, and erganomics, i'll stick with 1785is.

the reason why i have the 1855is is for my wife to handle the camera well, coz she's havin abit difficulty aiming my 400d when 1785is is attached. still, i'm not counting out 1855is. i highly recomend it for beginers or if you want to travel light specially if it paired with eos xxxd.

one more thing, i have 2pcs of that lens. both of them came as kit lens from 40D. i'm selling it on a local photog site here in singapore. sold or not, i'm happy with it.

  7. i agree with you, sony is the leading electronic manufacturer not only consumer but pro pruducts as well. you havn't mentioned PS3(leader to xbox360 & wii) and PSP(nintendo ds is the only competition but who cares for ds?).

but photography, may be they're on thier way, must shake off the 4/3's who's not so far away from them. sony should not only have a very competetive line up but to prove something as well to catch up the big 2. by the time i have to upgrade gears, may be i'll be moving laterally.

  8. 1 thought just crossed my mind about the gym thing. i can lift much more weights with out straining my wrist joints when im squeezing the handle bars thoughly. i think this one applies as well as handling the camera right? so i figured it out that i need to squeeze the handle of the camera to have a good grip. but i just cant do that with 400d, i have longer fingers than average.

i remember trying to grip 300d from a friend and it feels grate on my hand. most of the complains from 350d & 400d are now in 450d like spot metering, 3" lcd, live view, etc. but allso, one thing they(canon) never thought of improving is th grip. they should have bring it back the way it used to be just like with 300d.

  9. just finished a 1.5hr wedding ceremony with my 400D/1785is/430ex. and my wrist

joint is abit strained. my question is, is upgrading to a better handling XXD

or adding a vertical grip may eliminate this kind of strain? i'm also into

upgrading to 1755/2.8 or 24105/4 which we all know is hevier than 1785is.

just for the record, im also going to the gym thats why dont give a non-sense

sugestion "you should go to the gym to have more flexibility with weights"...

    thanks,

    -marco

  10. i'm choosing between pentax and sony for 2 main reasons and the most abvious advantage over the big2(Canon & Nikon). built in OIS and DR(not for Canon). i dont mind the lens lineup since there are lots of 3rd parteis around. i will wait til a200 and k20d or k200d, pops in the market.
  11. john, heres one from dcresource. compare the a100's iso400 to 400d's iso1600. imo, they are thesame regardless of the available light.

"I normally keep mine on 400 and the images are quite free of noise"

its up to your own judgement if an image is noisy or not. for me, thise image of a100 taken at iso400 is noisy already. i'm more of a night shooter thats why i'm sensitive with regards to noise, specialy night shots. just for the record, i also keep images taken at iso1600 from my 400d even though is noisy.
