1.
Well I have the 85 f/1.8 and I used it to get shots of my mom running a marathon and they turned out great. I also use it for portrait work. I also use the 60 f/2.8 for macro work, and I like it, although I hear the 100mm is better.. I think both of the lenses I mentioned run in the $400 range.

  2.
Ok, this may be a dumb question, but bear with me, I'm new to studio lighting. I just got the "Beginner Bee" package from AlienBees for Christmas. The sync cord that comes with it doesn't fit my camera. My question is, does the Xsi not have a sync port, or am I crazy? If it doesn't have the proper place to plug in the sync cord, what type of adapter could I get to make it work?

The first cord on this link is the one the light kit came with

If someone could please help me out, I would appreciate it. Go easy on me, this is my first lighting adventure, I'm used to working outdoors with natural lighting and/or a flash. Thanks!!

  3.
I think you still have to be at the right place at the right time, and then hope with your 8fps you got "THE" shot. Some shots happen so fast it could be missed or whatever, and while you are snapping away, you still may not get the greatest shot ever. I think you have to be prepared to a certain extent then get lucky.

  4.
I think you should find a way to hire a pro. Your wedding day goes by so fast and the pictures are what you have to remember the day by and show your great grandkids, and all that. I know that hiring a pro on my wedding day was the best investment I made. Just my opinion. Plus, if your friend misses the best shots or something goes wrong, couldn't that affect your friendship? Something to think about, I guess.

  5.
Ian, paypal does hold your payment until the item is shipped or until you get good feedback if you are under a certain rating with ebay or the item is over a couple hundred dollars. That confused the heck out of my when I tried to sell my camera a while back, but it's in the FAQ and everything...

But pretty much if you have to ask if something is a scam, it most likely is these days... Usually on those classified ad sites, people say stuff like "local pick up only" to avoid scams... but I'm not sure which you were using, I can only think of the popular one... :)

  6.
Nope, you need the extender and the close-up lens and all that. Do a search about it, I know there are a few posts on the matter. Trust me, I was disappointed when I got my lens and couldn't get those kinds of shots...lol

  7. I've been doing the "free" for friends thing for a little bit now too, and they've recommended me to their friends, and I did

them free too, because I'm building up my portfolio. But now the hubby says I have to start charging, but it's hard because

as in your case, my referrals have heard through their friends that I did their photos for free and they want the same thing,

but it has to end somewhere. I agree with the others, maybe just give a small discount or free prints/whatever for those

people. If they don't want to pay then they don't get your services, it's the same with any other business, right? :) Now I

just have to work on practicing this...;)
