All the scans I seem to be getting with the Nikon V seem really dark. However, when I put the slide in a projector or hold it up to light, then there is a lot of information there. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks,

Anyone have any good sources on scanning colour negatives and slides with a Nikon scan? Or any good tips you can put here as well. I always find myself disappointed with my results from colour film.

Thanks,

It is a brand new machine and I have always used black and white negatives, though I have scanned a friends slides awhile back and they were fine, but the velvia is really purple. I will try and post a sample image soon. It could be that I am underexposing it...
-
Hey everyone,
I am just getting into using Velvia in my Nikon V and it really sucks. I have
the most giant magenta cast ever seen. Any hints? What am I doing wrong, because
I have to be doing something wrong this is so bad.

Hey everyone,
I have a Nikon V and I am thinking about a Horizon 202, but I am wondering if I
will be able to scan the panoramic negs?
-
You guys are useless. The scam was just one of my questions.

Hey everyone, I want to buy a Canon 5d, I have a few questions for those who may
have bought on ebay or elsewhere and how much should I expect to pay? I am in
Canada and my major issue is how do I calculate border fees. I have someone in
the US I could get it sent to if that would avoid it, but then are there
problems with this as if the product is bad then I cant fight it properly? Does
anyone have any guidelines or hints? I have found a few for about 1200, brand
new in box, and I have to email them and they post buy it nows so I can buy. Is
this a scam, because I see some buy it nows for 1800 or much more?
Thanks everyone!

Hey guys, I am running into some problems with some of my negatives. I notice on certain rolls that one
or two of the negatives will be washed out and have a really orange tinge to it. This goes away if I scan in
greyscale. I am shooting tri_x, and the weirdest thing is that often these problem negatives seem to be an
isolated case, while there neighbours scan perfectly fine. As well, compared outside the scanner, there is
no visible difference between orange problem negs and good bw ones.
Anyone have this problem or know what I can try?

Okay, thanks, I will blow it out with a bottle of canned air. I am not using a squeegee.
-
Hey guys, I need some help with horizontal scratches on my film. They are very
faint but show up alot when scanning. I have read posts saying this could be
from the printfile sheets? I use tri-x in hc 110, ilford rapid fixer, hypo
clearing, and photo flo. Oh and I use patterson reels. I then hang dry in my
shower for about 3-6 hours, then slide them into printfile sheets, then later
scan them on a nikon V using its software.
Does anyone have any ideas where these scratches are coming from and how I can
fix my workflow? I was getting fine results with little or no scratches until
about 5 rolls ago and I have changed anything?
-
Of course, but shes the one badgering me for answers.

Hey guys, I am looking into a camera for my girlfriend that she can use when
out with me and learning the photographic ropes. First choice was the Leica
cause she really liked it, but after picking it up I found it less than
intuitive to work, where the g9 felt like I was using an SLR. But then if we
are getting an slr, the d40 might be a better choice, even though I hate the
d40.

does anyone know a way to make my m6 work with my sb 800?
-
Did you guys read the question? Lets put it simpler, I need to use it for 3 rolls today because I don't have time to go into town and get a new package. Will this be okay? Will it work?
-
Hey, I have been unable to find whether or not I can use a working solution of hypo clearing agent on
more than one roll of film. So far I have been tossing it after every use because I dont do more than one
but now I have a bunch to do tomorrow and barely any HC left and I dont want to run into town and ruin
my processing day.
So yeah, how many rolls can I use it for?

I live in Canada, so BH is a pain in the ass. But thanks fo the info on the lens good, I may just stick with a bunch of 39mm if I can track some down.
-
Hey guys, I need to find some filters for my 35 cron and its proving difficult
to get any the right size. I need them for bw work and of high quality. What do
you recommend I do, I am thinking of special ordering a 39mm-49mm step up ring
because there are a lot of 49mm filters out there, but I am worried about the
lens hood not fitting?
Any help would rock, thanks!

Hey, quick question, if I throw a little portable heater in the bottom of my
shower where my film is drying, will it do any damage? Just trying to improve on
my two hour drying time.
-
I do plan on an M8 eventually, or something . So I guess the elmarit would be the better choice if I can't use the ziess on a m8?
-
I am trying to decide between these two lenses, the ziess goes for much cheaper
I understand and according to erwin putts is even a better or equal lens. Anyone
help me out with decision?
-
How would I go about retrieving this leader before I put it in the bag?
-
Okay, well that sorta makes sense, the reel wasn't really that try... you live, you learn I guess.
Aren't steel reels harder?
-
My first few rolls of film have been interesting, but workable, and yet, with
all the chemical mumbo jumbo and scanning and that jazz, my biggest problem
today is my film just doesn't seem to want to load on the roller. I am using a
patterson tank with a plastic reel. I never had problems on my first two
rolls, but these last three have been worse and worse. Does anyone have a clue
what the hell I am doing wrong?

Hey guys, I just got hooked up with a Nikon V and am doing my own black and
white developing then scanning. I need some suggestions on how I should have
this baby set for eeking out the best quality. I know I should be using vuescan,
but for now while I am learning the ropes of this scanning beeswax I am going to
stick with the nikon stuff. So I need to know how would I go about setting my
exposures on this beast, or should I let it go auto? What Dpi should I be at,
its scanning a 4000 right now, but using a crop the size of the neg so it just
gets blown up in photoshop. I know this is wrong, but I am not sure what is a
good size to set it at? I should also be using 14 bit right? and How about
colour space, I am using BW so should I just have it set to greyscale or to an
rgb? Any help is appreciated.
