1.
Might it be possible that the magnifier has a diopter correction lens instead of the original one? Could you see a sharp image if you put the magnifier over a light table? (Even a smartphone or ipad can be used for this test)

 2.
Have you put correctly in place the folded plastic foil? If you used just the foam, you will experience difficulty in sliding in the plate and the foam will be damaged prematurely.

Just in case, instructions here

 3.

Does the CM take a digital back ?

Yes, the CVF line will work with no additional accesories, some other backs might require adapters or cables.
The issue with the CM with digital backs could be critical focusing. If you can afford it, the new CVF50c has Live view capability.

In relation to medium-format film processing, I guess it depends on where you live. In some major cities is still easy to find processing, albeit expensive.

 4.
E.J.: in the Library module, select "Show filter bar" from the view menu and then click on the "metadata" tab.
You can select up to 8 criteria, by adding or removing columns. if you click on the column name, the list of options will display

 5.

A function I'd love to see in LR is a basic function in any database system -- that is a search and match system that would allow all images/files to be stored in an unstructured way and retrieved on the fly by any of dozens of criteria -- all taken with an individual camera, all taken with some lens, all taken at 0800-0900 in the morning, etc.

LR already allows you to do that with a series of parameters as the attached image shows. Additionally, the lightroom catalog is just a regular relational database (SQLite) which can be read by a wide range of applications, besides an SQLite viewer, by installing an ODBC driver for SQLite. The options offered directly in LR are just a small range of the possibilities with the data in the database. There are even tables for "Face Properties" so I guess we'll see face recognition in the next version.

 6.
Try FastRawViewer, it is a very promising product by the same author of Rawdigger
www.fastrawviewer.com
It is really fast and you are looking at the RAW image, not the jpegs with interesting feature such as focus overlays, raw histogram (basic). You can rate the image and generate the XMP files to use afterwards in Bridge or LR
If you open a new batch of RAW files in Bridge, it takes forever.

Regards
