2. I did not mean to sound as if I bought a full frame camera in order to start doing business. My interest are in .. I suppose it can all be called documentary. I mostly shoot concerts and events. Some street photography too. What do you mean, when you say "Where have you looked"? I vaguely understand that I will need to "present myself" somehow to some publishers or make myself "visible" by some means. (If this is what you mean). But .. I do not know how to approach...
  3. Hello, community I am getting some ideas that it is about time I start realizing some material gain from my hobby as a photographer. Over the past years I have invested quite a deal into equipment and recently purchased first full frame camera with lens, and plan for some other lenses to invest into in near future. I photograph just about anything. Where do I start looking to find if there are opportunities to make money on what I do? I honestly do not know where to start....
  4. Would this be "a bad thing" ? Is there a risk that something may fail ?
  5. And to continue the story of buying the first FX camera .. I found one for an OK price at B&H and when I came home I found out that the shutter speed is sooo high.To give an idea ... I use DX7000 since 2013 and I do not deny myself taking a shot when I feel like it. So, I would expect that my DX would have a high shutter count. 37000. The D750 I bought at B&H had ... 73000 !!! It looked as a brand new though. ... it got me scared. I returned the camera. Few weeks down the road, I landed a deal at Adorama for even slightly smaller amount. Camera looks brand new and .. surprisingly shutter count is only .. 2800. Can anyone explain, how such a good camera, can be in a used market with such a low shutter count ? Is there a trick somewhere ?
  6. Thank you all. I ended up finding an OK price on a used D750 Well ... I can afford to spread the expense for .. about a year or so. So.. I will manage. The quality and "stunning-ness" of photos that come out is what has got me in. It is sooo impressive. For example, a photo attached here, is out of the box with no processing at all. And I did use the DX (16-80) lens. To tell the truth, I feel slighly limitted with DX on a FX body, but I think I can get used to using that middle rectangle. At least till I save a little more for a fx lens.
  7. Thanks ... People here keep telling to upgrade the lenses. I am looking at the available DX lenses, from Nikon, Tamron and Sigma, and I am not seeing what better can I get in addition to the list I mentioned I have: Nikon 16-60/2.8-4 Nikon 55-300 Nikon 35mm/f1.8 To me this list of lenses, looks as exhaustive as it can get for the DX outfit.
  8. I am heading to Acadia national park on Friday August 10, driving from NYC to Schoodic Woods Campground, (non stop, well .. will stop to eat and fuel up) where my first night is planned. I plan to spend the full saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday and wednesday half day in Acadia. And then on Wednesday afternoon I plan to start heading back. to NYC, but this time with the plan to see the Maine cost line, and surrounding areas. I do not have any particular plans, and would like to catch the gems that I can catch. Can anyone help me build a itinerary with photo opportunities ? I want to photograph nature, landscapes, wildlife if I can find it. I will bring either Nikon D7000 with 55-300 and 16-85 lens, or (if I can finish the purchase in time), the D610 with 24-120 lens. I will have a tripod. But this is a vacation, so I would prefer not strain myself too much carrying tripod to a strenuous hikes.
  9. Yes, I found what I need, I think, at Keh.com. But what do you think of Adorama ? Their prices are the same, and my office is 15-20 minute walk from adorama store in NYC I would prefer that... to waiting for shipment
  10. Thank you. I am 1 block away from B&H store in NYC, and .. 20 minutes walk away from Adorama ... so .. these are tempting. Though prices of the used gear there are biting...

    Used cameras

Where do people usually buy the used FX cameras? and lenses? I am in search of a D610 or D750. How to evaluate what I am buying ? Is Ebay a good source ? Is keh a good source ?
  12. Thanks all for your advice. I think I finally sold the D7000, .. for not much but it is better than having it collecting dust. Reading all that you say and from other sources, I think I will try to go with Full frame camera .. Can anyone suggest how and where to look for a used camera, and how to evaluate. What are the risks ? I see that the new D610 cost just $200 less than D750... Both are a little too expensive new, but .... we live once So, if going with used, would go with 610 if the deal will be better on it. If buying brand new, than it is D750... Someone asked what was it I did not like about D7000: It was not the best performance in low lights and also .. my pictures keep coming "flat" and grainy for anything above 400 ISO. The friend of mine, who is my photography partner, "teaching" me how to's and such said that a full frame can give me better results in that regard.
  13. Can anyone please suggest a flash for the Nikon ... Accidentally broke my SB-600, that I had for many years. Am ready to replace it, but not sure with what. I understand that there are already many non-Nikon flashes compatible, many more than when when I was buying SB-600 .. 10-11 years ago. I would need something that is as robust in functionality and powerful. Basic requirements are: - power - must work on camera, and off camera with commander and with just command mode (using internal flash as a trigger) If you can also suggest on what to look at when choosing a flash (I think there can be many that fit my requirements), I would really appreciate that too.
  14. Thank you al !! Wow !! Soo much to read here !!! Please let me make a little correction: Many here suggest buying lenses INSTEAD of the camera body. The issue is, that I was able to get a decent price selling my D7000 - So, I do not have it !! The dilema is: Keeping lenses and investing .. in maybe D500 (littel more) Going FX, I could stretch for the camera body, but .. additional lenses would have to come later :( Can't pull $3500 - $4000 at once :(
  15. I am a Nikon photographer. Upgrading from D7000 to ... and that's where I need help. Can anyone help me choose: To tell what I am photographing: Just about anything worth: - Mostly concert photography - Nature, animals during hikes - Some street photography - slowly, but persistently I enter fashion - portraits, models, etc.. I am slowly learning to use remote lighting, so I would like (need to) invest into some mechanisms for remote flashes .. also, I damaged the speed light I had for years, and would eventually need to invest into one as well. Now, If this is an input, I am NOT able to use photoshop, don't have time to learn it. I only use LightRoom for some basic .. lightening and cropping/cutting. I am looking at 3 models, which kind of fit my price range .. 1) D7200 - Heard good things about it ... but is it worth buying now, considering that D7500 is already out there. 2) D7500 - Well, new camera, how does it compare to the 7200 and 610 I have a 3 lenses for DX cameras, which I would use if I go with the 2 cameras above. Nikon 16-60/2.8-4 Nikon 55-300 Nikon 35mm/f1.8 Important information needed 3) D610 (Yes, FX, I know). - I never had and never tried the Full frame camera. - Is it worth buying full frame, and investing into additional lenses... given that this camera is the cheapest one and I would hardly be able to afford an upgrade to it anytime in the coming .. 5-6-7 years. So, is it worth buying entry - level full frame and shedding money for the lenses or is it better to buy more or less advanced DX, keeping my lenses and spending money for lighting ? I do not know how to evaluate the benefit of a full frame camera over DX format. So ... this is a source of my confusion ... I do know, that when I take pictures, I like them to come out clean, crisp and I like "volume" in my pictures. Can you help me understand what to go with, give some advice, maybe suggestions ? Thank you
  16. Hello, Just like the tittle says - this is a question I've had. I made few hundreds shots on a concert, and am trying to pick .. let's say 20ies. What is the best technique to do this? I spend hours in a light room, trying to work the image, and then end up liking what comes out, and eventually I end with 200 images out of 300 that I made, just because .. I made it a little lighter, a little saturated, and now - I end up liking it. I just want to understand what is a quick way or tools to "choose" the photos before working on them, and then working on those ONLY

  18.
I apologize, I just realized that I made a mistake, and meaning can be wrongfully understood. "I have found" photos that I made long time ago, on my hard drive. I am talking about my images, not what I found online.

  19.
Well, title has it. I have a been "shooting" around for a long time,
and recently, I started lerning and using Adobe Light room

I have found some pictures which I processed with light room, and now it looks like a very nice art work. The imag is of a model posing, but at that time light was very bad and she was all dark, I could not use it anywhere. But, now I learned how, and made it as a piece of art I, or others could hang on the wall.
The image is very recognizable. That is you can see it is a girl, but no face is rendered and it's in black and white.
Can I sell those on ebay, or use them in any other way for profit, given I don't have release form anymore, and don't have any record from who that model was?

  20.
Thank you, Bob.
I will give it a try. I heard a term "sunny-16", but did not know the details.

  21.
Everything that you say makes sense to try, if I could rule out one of the variables - camera or a lens. With just one left, I could go with different camera/lens.
I have 2 other lenses, that I rarely use, will have to go try. Maybe it all is just in my head. I suspect some similar issues I had with the Tamron lens I used before this one - after some time, I thought that it becomes harder to shoot at certain conditions.

  22.
Well, pretty much as the title says.
I have a Nikon D7000 with Sigma 17-50/f2.8 fixed. Recently (about a month ago) i took both camera and lens for service, and on the camera I had sensor cleaned.
The lens had mechanical problem, with zoom stopped working, and I had it repaired. Now, all seem to work fine, but it seems to me that things have become darker. Same kind of photos I took, now seem to be more on the left side of the spectrum. I constantly find myself shooting at high ISOs, which I would normally want to avoid.
Any suggestions? what could have happened?

  23.
Thank you, Patrick Thrush, for reconfirming my idea that this lens is worth spending money to fix.

  24.
I am pretty sure the lens is not under warranty. Bought it in B&H and I never buy extended service - never needed.
It had a limited warranty for defective parts for a year.
And, while I do take a very good care of it, and it works as a brand new lens (up to this mechanical issue just now), it visually shows that I spent a lot of time with it outdoors and on various events. So there is no hope convincing Sigma it is a manufacturing defect :)
