  1. I have the Tamron 28-200 lens. I like it because it is convenient. Yes, the auto focus has problems in low light. Note: when using flash, the lens has to focus in the low level, available light.

    Who is selling the lens? Can you test it before buying? Otherwise . . .

  2. I use two Nikon SB-800s off camera pointed straight up with diffuser domes. First pic used the built in flash on my D-70 in commander mode, full TTL as I recall. The second added an SU-800, I don't remember the settings.

  3. I like the black background for Halloween. It will never be too big and beware of obvious creases. The other props Kurt mentioned would be nice. Just don't use a hay bale - too messy.

    The room lights probably will mess up your white balance so use a fast shutter speed. My Nikon defaults to 1/60 in program so I use shutter priority or manual.

    You need two flashes but I don't like on camera flash. I use two Nikon flashes, one on either side, one about six feet high and one about five feet. I point them straight up and use diffuser domes. Your room may be too big to get the even reflection that has worked for me.
