OK, I 100% agree with the OP here. Realistically, I would not want to see this pop up as an ad when I was viewing, esp. Nikon forum or Canon forum...However, I do have to ask...why is there a conversation bubble coming out of her rear? hmmmmm....

Exactly Dave. The proof is in the pudding...If you're happy with the real world results, just go out and take pics. Why waste shutter actuations on the back of a lens cap...

OK, maybe I'm the weird one...My step 1 was taking pictures of landscapes, even crappy ones! Ten years later, I became a dad, bought a DSLR, and now have THOUSANDS of pics of the kids...I guess my pets feel neglected, since I hardly ever shoot them.

Forget the woman, lens is cheaper!

I can't say about the 50D, but I upgraded from a 300D to a 40D soon after the 40D came out, and I have never regretted it. The feel is more solid, some of the features I had on previous film cameras were now available again, and it's much easier to work with. I don't think you could go wrong with the 50D.

David, not sure where you got the "1.5", but Canon has it spec'd at the same "1.6" as the 50D and the Rebel series.
I definitely see some serious improvements over the XXD line, though. Maybe one day....Canon keeps me dreaming of new equipment, even when I don't need it!

Target price (per Canon) $1699 body only. Nice level between 50D and 5D II.

Thomas, if you go to"Community", it's directly under that heading.

Here's an update on his work...Guess he/his model will now need some bail money...

Chris, I would look at relatively early in the AM for shooting the photos. The light is wonderful, the beach is MUCH less crowded, and the wind has typically not gotten good and started for the day. You can try some fill flash with the sun more to everyone's back, or go the other way and have the sun to the back of the camera, as long as the sun is not making everyone squint. As far as protecting your camera, you will be fine. Obviously make sure your tripod is steady if there is a good breeze, and you will be fine. I have taken my old Digintal Rebel, and my 40D out to Pnanma City and Gulf Shores many times, never with a problem. THe only other advice I have is to put your camera in a ziploc bag before going outside with it, and letting it warm up for a few minutes to avoid fogging of the lens. I know how the humidity can be, and I've seen it firsthand...

You might want to try changing the lens as well. It could be the contacts between the lens and camera. THat can cause the Error 99...

OK, the kids postulate is true, the flowers, no. 100% of my wife's photos are of our kids...Only 90% of mine are. The rest of mine are flowers and other pretty, colorful things. :)

"I think the most lame one I've seen is on those little bags of silica gel that are packed with electronic products: Do Not Eat This."

Also, you left out..."DO Not Use as a Supository"

Canon 28 1.8 or 50 1.8 indoors, depending on how much rooom I have to work in. Signa 70-200 2.8 outside most of the time.

OK, apparently I've gotten so accustomed to all the adds at different sites, I can completely ignore them now...I have not even noticed an ad in weeks...read right past them.

Man, I have to start shooting at least some film again! I've gotten spoiled with the ease of digital...

I have the first version of the 24-70 and 70-200, both f2.8 (for Canon). I agree with Thomas, the 24-70 is really good in good light. It is slow to focus in dimmer light (also why I bought it). THe 70-200 couldn't be better! I don't find IS (OS in the case of Sigma) really necessary for 99% of my shooting, so it wasn't worth the investment for me. I do carry a monopod for it though. I also use it with the Sigma 2X converter, and have had some pretty decent results in decent light. If I could, I would replace the 24-70 with the version II or the Canon, but the Version I was MUCH cheaper!
