  1. Thanks much Jack! Good to hear from you. You know I'm peeking at your photos all the time ... :)

It's hard enough to be in the right place with the right light to capture that photo that really says something. Doing that with a disposable camera that had a teeny weenie viewfinder while breathing through a snorkel tube and flailing ones rubber web-covered feet - well, that was a whole 'nother story.

    Have a great day!

  2. Hello Ricardo:

Very nice B&W shot - the tones are perfect on the horn, the depth of field just right to draw our attention to the instrument against a background that provides texture without distracting. But in my own experience (30 years photographing musicians and stage performers) you've omitted THE most important thing in this capture: the expression on the face of the horn player. You can go to any musical instrument shop in the world and take a photo of a horn. But the face of a horn player practicing his/her craft I think is much more memorable.

  3. Hi and thanks Jack. Key West is always like a carnival parade, with or without the alcohol. It's so very colorful and vibrant. And there is a culture there - of a very different sort - that's most entertaining and extremely photogenic. I hope to be headed back out there late July for another fishing tournament and Hemingway Look Alike Contest.

The first thing I notice is that the texture of the leaves front and center at the bottom mirrors the texture of the stone wall. It brings to life the concept of "found in nature" even as applied to a man-made structure. Great work.

  4. Hi Jack ... Hope you're doing well and still enjoying this hobby we share.

As my mother often said - Chacun à son goût. I like this one the best just because of those extra ripples: a small step further away from reality.

Excellent! Your technique for stopping down the water is spectacular. Very dramatic.

Please tell us (in your profile) about your camera and lens(s).

I like your photo, Milton. The position and action of your subjects is wonderful and makes me wonder how long you stood ready to fire before they posed like this. I love their color contrast - brown in the foreground to gray in the back.  The DOF is perfect. The lighting is good enough to create a 3D effect. What's not to love?

Very tender. Must be viewed large. You have quite the eye, Bruce, and apparently the Nikon know-how to put it to best use.

Love the Paul Simon lyrics in your bio. One of my all-time favorite songs that has special meaning for me too as Nikon was my first "real" camera.

Must be viewed large. I'm walking right off the boardwalk. Great point of view. But again ... the signature. We know who you are, Giorgos. To protect your work it only need appear on the photo. Perhaps somewhere not so distracting?

Very cool! Looks like an Olympic skater :)

I do find your signature distracting though. Can't you put it somewhere where it doesn't detract from your fantastic image?

Your terrific point of view adds such excitement to this colorful, emotional capture. Best wishes to the bride and groom!

  5. Congratulations on Photo of the Day. I commend your skill in "seeing" this photo opportunity and framing it so well. I'm not a fan of the tonality though. With less gray, it becomes less flat and encourages the viewer to go beyond the first opening. As if we want to go to prison :)

Well captured pose in a truly beautiful setting. But Yoga is about balance. And it starts with the feet. You build a solid foundation with your feet and the pose grows from there. I'm not sure you could have shot from a higher elevation but I do think your photo would have been so much more meaningful had you been able to include your "Warrior's" feet.

Looking at the rest of the photos in your portfolio, I suspect you have a monitor calibration problem Stephanie. They all look overexposed. Congrats on Photo of the Day.
