  1. <p>I am looking for some fake magazine cover digital overlay preferably as a transparent .PNG file. I wish to use these at sporting events to increase sales revenue. Does anyone know where I could purchase some that can be edited for things like dates and names on the image? The ones I have looked at on tubtapes site are not able to be edited.</p>

<p>Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. note: I am looking for overlays that are ready to go not ones that I have to create in photoshop.</p>

    <p>Thanks<br>

  2. Alex and Charlie i fear that you both have a valid point. My faithfull old D1H is on the auction block for parts. It was my bread and butter camera up untill I got my new D2Hs last fall but I still will look for a used D1H or D1X as I shoot a lot of Moto Cross and ATV racing. The conditions are bad at best. Thank you all for your replies. The old brute does not owe me a thing I bought it used three years ago and it has earned a lot of money for me over that time period.

  3. Hi

I was out shooting a couple of months ago and My D1H started fireing three

frames after one shutter release. It will not put the images on the card as

well. Has anyone else had this problem. I am nervous about taking it to nikon

as it is probobley not worth fixing. I was going to sell it for parts unless

someone has an idea of what the problem is....

    Thanks

    Michael

  4. I have a D2Hs that had the same problem it went in to Nikon Canada twice and they could not fix it. I took it back to the store and they replaced it for me . The new one works great.
  5. Hi all.

I presently use Iomega Photoprinter to run a slideshow and print. I

am displaying pictures to Hockey parents and wish to streamline my

workflow. What I am looking for is a simple program to display a JPG

and it's filename preferably large on an LCD monitor to the

purchasing parents. Any suggestions would be welcome. This would need

    to be in PC format.

Sidenote: I spent 2 hours browsing and downloading from tucows with

    no luck.

    Cheers

  6. I walked into the office of the local paper to place an ad for my computer service business. I left a card for my event photography busines and recieved a call wondering if I would shoot frelance for them when they ere short staffed. That was two years ago and I shoot on a regular basis for them. I even shot their Christmass party photo's. I get paid $35.00 for a quick 15 miniute shoot up to $200 + milliage for a two hour assignment. Ive had several front page shots ans one and two page spreads.

    Cheers...

  7. I am having a problem with an action I am recording. I am trying to

setup an action to Auto Level a folder full of JPG,s it works well

except for a dialog box that comkes up for JPG Options i cannot seem

to Automate past that point. In other words I have to sit there and

hit enter each time the box comes up in order to continue. How may I

automate past this if I can???

I have poured through the help files and am stuck. Any suggestions

would be appreciated. I am using PSCS and PS 7 for Windows.

  8. Hi Kyle I shoot and print photos on site. I shoot mostly hockey here are my methods.

    1. No time for photoshop Simple is best. Adjust the camera to get what you need. The majority of purchases at these events are motivated by emotion and spur of the moment thoughts. They did not get the shot you did their camera was not good enough ect....

    2. I use two pc notebooks running XP 2 Canon I950 printers pooled together, 1 Display Monitor 17" running a slide show of the event with Iview software this displays the filename as well. I also use IOMEGA photo Printer its free and runs a slide show and supports drag and drop printing. Again I cannot emphsize enough that you should keep it simple and you do not have enough time to make each image just right

    3. I shoot and get the images on the pc My wife runs the slideshow and handles the printing.

    4. At hockey I have power from the wall but remotely as in soccor or baseball if Hydro is not available I use a generator.

    5. I use a tent even indoors it defines my space and looks proffesional. At Baseball or other outdoor events I print out of my Van with the tent over the back door area.

    6. Take special request this make the customer feel special and you will do your best to get a good shot.

I hope this info helps I shoot about 3000 shots in a 3 day event with an average of 30 to 40 teams and sell about 150 of them I do this about 7 times a year.

If you have any other questions dont hesitate to email me

    Cheers Michael

I shoot Hockey LoTTTTTTTS of Hockey at an average tournament I will shoot 3500 frames over 3 to 4 days. I first shot with an 80-200 2.8 Non AFS Nikon lense.... not bad but you should use the AFS version I only loose 1 shot in 20 to out of focus problems. The VR funtion will do you no good at all the SLOWEST you should be shooting at is 18oth @ F2.8 if you have realy good lighting you could get it to 1 250th at ISO 800. An 85 is way to short the minimum is 135mm I usualy shoot from 150 to 200. Hope this helps.....cheers and good luck.

The D-70 uses iTTL Flash control and is only TTL compatible with the 800 and soon to be released 600 series flash. The 600 flash will use AA batteries unlike the CR123,s used by the 50 dx. The 80 dx and 50 dx are not TTL Compatible with the D70. Note wich is why I would have to get a D100 as a spare body I have the 80 dx and 50 dx flashes. To much invested to change now...

    Cheers

  12. I forgot to add that this program is originaly intended for noise reduction. Just select a skin area in the profile screen and sample it than aply that to the image you can increase or decrease the setting as well. Play with all the features and you will see what you can get away with. The pro version ships with a photoshop plugin as well. I hope I wont get in everyones bad books for flogging some software oh well !!!
  13. Michael

On a response to another question someware else on this forum someone made referance to a program called neatimage. You can download a free home version at www.neatimage.com I plan on buying the pro version wich allows for queing multiple images to process. This image that you like took all of 30 seconds to do. Pretty neat eh!

I just finnished a shoot for mothersday and this program was well recieved as it realy reduced the detail of the moms faces. ( My wife loves it as well)Enjoy.

  14. You should put in as much time as you need to have the image be the best you can do as Timber put it. However most photographers are overly critical and see more flaws then the subject. Time must be used wisely, I tried this with your picture I like it hope you do as well.<div>008DFP-17936284.jpg.a620f9c9b6555ecfeec33a10407f7558.jpg</div>
  15. Alas an area I am very familiar with!

I shoot hockey tournaments as well I am a computer analyst. This combination works for me.

The most important area is workflow if you are shooting and then presenting to your customer you cannot keep them waiting. 20 hockey parents all wanting to see their kid can be intimidating.

I use 1 PIII 933 DUAL Processor pc with XP Pro along with Two Canon I950,s pooled this enables me two send to one printer and the free one will get the next job.

I also have a PIII 650 Dell Laptop that can work standalone as well as print through to the 950,s.

To present the pictures I use a 17 inch crt for now but will soon replace this with a lcd.

Workflow is the main concern get the editing done on the camera by this I mean Exposure, Wite Balance and framing. The less you have to do on the pc the better. Get the pictures out fast is the main focus forget the artistic side of photography parents are just happy to have a good action shot of there child they want to see the face and the eyes.

I have found the following software helpfull.

Iview for doing the slideshow and giving the customer a number for the photo.

Iomega photo printer for drag and drop pinting and selecting the photos to print.

I use Nikon View 6.2 for the handling of the images and rotation.

The majority of our shots that we sell are 8X10,s and rest are 5X7,s about 20%.

Here is a shot of our booth. During one of the quiet times between games.

  16. I have had problems with auto and ttl mode. Equipment, Nikon D1H, SB80 DX, SB50 DX, Metz 45-CT3, Lense realy isn'nt an issue. In low light or fairly dark the auto ttl mode shines I get fantastic results. In average lit rooms where i need lots of light and everthing well lit and balanced I find I get much better results shooting manual with the metz It seems more natural and reliable. I was assisting a very sucessfull wedding and event photographer in the Toronto area and he was a manual fanatic so I guess he showed me the light so to speek :-). Overall I find Auto unstable and not very consistant it has to many variables and can be fooled to easily. I get very consistant results with manual and use my 80 DX many times in manual mode rather than auto. Thats not to say that its better than auto its just better for me. I'm sure many of you find auto ttl just fine.

    Cheers.

  17. I must confess I have been Perusing for the last few weeks however

after culling loads of very usefull information I must thank all of

the participants for there questions and answers it has been most

    usefull and informative.

For the last couple of years I have been working as a freelancer for

our local regional paper www.yrng.com and photographing hockey

tournaments and selling pictures on site. I have most of the angles

figured out for this as I average 3500 shots per weekend and sell

about 150 of those. I have been using IOMEGA photoprinter to present

and print my work. I have now just started to reach a critical mass

with the workflow and am starting to look for some improved software

to handle this. Our computer equipment at the shows are 2 laptops

and a display monitor along with two printers ( pooled in XP )

What I need is to be able to:

1.Present the pictures as a slide show with a file number

2 recieve the requested number from the customer ( at the second

pc ) than print it as well.

    3. The ability to do magazine type shots or borders with custom

lettering ect. Player cards would be kinda nice to have as well.

    4. easy to use ( I am a computer analyst full time however when

people are lined up speed is important ).

    5. Does not cost an arm and a leg Digital express is $3000.00 cnd

    Thanks in advance.

    Michael
