    Digital color capture coverted to B&W with extreme channel mixing to

    darken the sky and lighten the bridge piers. The original color shot

    is on my site. Comments?

    This heron was fishing in Catfish Hollow at Great Falls early one

    morning. At Great Falls, the herons often blend in with the rocks,

    but this one was in the sun, while the background was still in the

    shade, so it really stands out. Comments?

  1. I completely disagree with the last critique; having seen both photos, I think the B&W blows the doors off of the color version (and it's not just because i'm an old B&W film hack). The model is attractive and the composition interesting in both photos, but the B&W captures a range of tones that really brings out the curves and contours of the body. The color version isn't bad, but it doesn't have nearly the same level of interest. Nice job.
  2. This photo was taken around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. The

    cherry trees are a common photographic subject in the spring when the

    flowers are in bloom, but the fall colors are just as photogenic.
