Thanks, guys! I'll try to remove the glossy effect some how and work more with the lights.
Enjoy the day! :)

Hi,

I made last week a small background for my studio. I made it with wood and applied some colors on it. For the final touch I applied some special liquid that makes the wood a little bit glossy. I don't know its name in English.
So far, so good. Today i made some tests. It looks pretty good, but there are some angles and positions where the wood has some reflections that shouldn't be there.
I'm attaching a sample file. I used as flash a canon 580 and an umbrella.
Can somebody help me with some tips about how to avoid this kind of problems? I'm thinking also about repainting with something mat, but I'm more interested in tips for controlling the light.
Thanks!

That would be pretty bad. Thanks!
I guess I'll have to stick to products like this:

Thanks, Zack.
I know there are some issues with the continuous light, but my eyes can't stand the flashes and I might also shoot with film, so for me continuous light is a must.
I'm still digging the whole problems, I really appreciate your reply.
Indeed, iso it really no problem. As long as I have my result, I can shoot with 1250 or even 1600. My lenses are prime, so 1.4 or 2.0 is another big help.
I found today this kit: http://www.kaiser-fototechnik.de/en/news/produkte/1_1_studiolight.asp
What do you think?
Thanks!

Some candies might help. :)

Great tips. Now I know what I must buy. Thanks!

I'm in Berlin, Germany so ... I just had a very late breakfast. :) It's 1:30 PM.
Thanks for your reply and ... have a good night. Let me know if you can recommend me some lights. I'll dig the b&h now.

Thanks, Ralph. There are for sure some great advantages. I don't like the idea of flash, that much. My eyes don't love it. I would rather shoot with a high iso, which doesn't bother me at all.
I must dig some more about the heating issue. I sure wouldn't like to make my small models sweat. I might need to invest a little bit more.

Thanks for your replies.
I'll probably use a Canon 7d, I have some prime lenses as well (50 1.4, 24 1.4).

Hi!
I would like to make a small studio at home and buy some continuous lights. I'll use them to photograph children, so I really like to try with some soft natural light and not the normal flashes.
I would like to invest something like 5-600 dollars. Can somebody with more experience give me some tips about what I can buy?
Thanks!

Hi Tom,
I used 2 flashes that I trigged with 2 radio transmitters. The chair I used as background was set in front of the window, but I think it was already to dark outside to get light from that window. Actually, I had to turn on a small lamp (tungsten) near by just to have some light on my objects in order to get easily a good focus. I guess the extra light could've caused some problems, I usually don\t work with flash lights.
I might still need to shoot this stuff for y girlfriend, so any tips would be very much appreciated. I'll stick to a custom wb, that's for sure.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips, guys! You are great!

Indeed, it's the white balance. I thought it can't be, because the background color was correct and the brown stone from the middle was also ok.
It looks like this with WB set to Flash:
The green is finally back, but everything else is way to yellow. I guess bring a white paper and setting a customized wb is a must.

Hi Bill,
Thanks. I'm shooting Auto WB, but I'm shooting raw. I couldn't fix it in Lightroom, I guess I'll have to try again with a manual WB.

Hi,
I had to photograph some jewelry today and I used for the first time 2 flashes.
Everything went great, except for 2 objects that are green and I got them with totally different colors. What was green I got as blue.
I'm using a Canon 7D.
Can somebody help me with some tips?
Thanks!

I must make a photo book and I've got from my client the file list in a word document. I have like 250 photos and I wouldn't like to select them one by one.
Any idea how could I make a multiple selection in Bridge? I know that in ACDSee there was an option that allow you to search for multiple files: 123, 234, 321, etc.
Any tips for Bridge? Or what application do you use for such a selection?
Thanks!

Guys, William ... what can I say! Thanks a lot for your time and precious advices. :)
I hope I'll enjoy the new lens soon!
Take care!

We are on the same road. :)
Good luck!

I have the same dilema, Massimo. I could try Sigma 30mm. It's like almost 500 euro. I can buy a 24mm from Canon, second hand, with something like 1000 euro. The question is: is Sigma 1.4 fast enough and will focus without problem in very difficult conditions? I just missed some photos using my 50 mm 1.4 and I don't want to repeat the ugly experience from the latest wedding.

Very convincing, Tommy! Thanks!

-
Thanks, Scott! :)
Mark, that's all I needed to know. Thanks!
-
Thx, Scott!
I know for sure that I must go for the wider one. I was just wondering if the 24 mm is ok for a non full
frame camera.

Thanks for your answer. I could really use a "better" lens. As a wedding photographer, I want to use most of the time only the available light. It was the case last Saturday, when my Canon 50 mm 1.4 failed a couple of times and I missed the shots. This is why I thought about buying the 24 with 1.4 or the 35 with 1.4. I'm really looking for a very fast lens that will focus without problem is the most difficult situations.
I'll keep read and look for the best solutions. Thanks again!
