  1. What is the little yellow star next to the post? I think my storytime idea was better and I didnt get a little star. Can we do this on April 9th at 5:36 pm CST? That's my birthday and would love it to be celebrated around the world in a unison click of the shutter like a sacrifice to the Gods.
  2. I will assume that what he is saying would work like this.

    1. I shoot a bunch of pictures at a baseball game.

    2. Five parents want photos of their kids.

    3. I give them the file numbers of those photos on some form.

    4. Customer goes to website, enters numbers and finds photos.

    5. Customer buys photo.

Something you can do on smugmug in a way. Just need to set it all up right.

  3. "Do we get enough input from the expert photographers?" I will happy to offer any advice.

    (1) "There are a bunch of great photos..." Thank you, I'm flattered but I don't know if telling you the settings will make much difference but if you would like to ask I will tell you.

    (2) "I see a bunch of people begging..." Begging is not a good trait to have but can be a good tactic. Why no response? Ah, who knows?

    (3) "...I see "lack of" critiques ..." I once said that if you were to display your photos in a live gallery and had hidden microphones the responses would be much the same as on here, most won't say anything, some will say little and little will have a lot to say. It's just the way people are.

"This is great site..." I am trying to refrain myself from complaining in future posts, if I have many more.

"...tell me all of their secrets..." There are no secrets just education and hard work.

  4. It's too bad Claude has not replied to the comments posted above as I believe his contention that the so called policies are increasingly stringent, is not phrased correctly. I don't believe they are and for one simple reason which is I don't know what they are. I believe what Claude is referring to, if I may, is Article II of the PN Doctrine (Terms of Use) titled "photo.net is edited." This is really the crux of the matter.

If we must compare this portion of the doctrine to a government type it could easily be a police state if abused. My contention is that it is but in most cases not purposely. I don't know Claude but I think I may know where he is coming from. I suppose he has experienced what I have concerning this subject and expressed that here. His fault lies in not expressing it clearly enough leading to many other assumptions, including mine, which may not be correct. Who knows? Unless he replies we will never know for sure.

  5. I have some digital photos which I think are worthy of being shown in a

gallery. So what size prints do I make them? where do I go to get them printed?

how do I frame them? do I get them framed in glass? what do I print them on? do

I need borders? who do I go to to ask them to hang them? can I ask $10,000 for

one print? I have many more questions but I'll leave it that.

  6. If you are a pro why are you asking? You have a D2x what more do you need? Or why are you asking for a cheaper camera? Certainly if you can figure out that camera you can figure out simple point and shoots. Why do you waste our time? I can't imagine myself picking up my Cybershot to shoot anything these days now that I have a D80 and D300. Maybe I am just weird that way. Sorry for my rudeness I just find the whole thing strange. You have a camera, a good one better than I have what's the point of going backwards?
  7. I have the Sigma 105 macro and I find it to be my favorite of all my lenses. Nikon is always twice as much or even three or four times. I have not seen any heads up photos so I cant say for sure. All I know is I love that Sigma. It has been working on my D300 but I have not done an upgrade yet so I am not sure if what Ronald says is right but like I said I am not sure. They say it's all about the glass on the Nikons and so maybe you will get sharper photos but you have to ask yourself how big you plan on printing those photos, 20x30? If so maybe consider the Nikon if not well I would think Tamron or Sigma would be fine.
  8. "...what the these two types of lenses were primarily used for?" They have no primary use.

"What would the f2.8 on zoom lenses be good for?" Lower light situations. Most lenses that I am aware of are either a constant, let's say, 2.8 or go from 4.5 to 5.6 or whatever depending on focal length. So constant can be a good thing.

"I am sure the pictures would come out really well on both type of lenses." Yes they would.

"I am just wondering "what situations" would they be good for?" Many situations

"...raise your ISO on a f4 lens to compensate for the lack of f2.8?" Yes but with more noise.

  9. Yes I realize distance is a factor. It's hard for me to figure out how to word it correctly. I suppose I should say, what would be the largest print a D300 can produce while maintaing the highest amount of detail viewed from four feet away? Are you saying that 20x30 is probably the biggest one should go? A TIFF File contains more info than a RAW file so would that not be better for large prints? Or is it negligable? Also Bit-Depth does not effect printing and only pertains to viewing on screens? It says in the manual that 14-bit increases the color data recorded so would not 24-bit capture even more color data? So if it's capturing more color data does this mean there is a broader range of color in the photo that would translate on the print?
