So far, I have no experience with extension tubes. I have bought the 1.4x converter, but I prefer not to use it. Please let me know how the tubes work for you once you bought them.

You have some very nice shots yourself, which I will check back on!

By the time I took this shot, I had just recently bought my first lens and was surprised I could take macro shoots with a tele zoom.

Meanwhile, I had the opportunity to get myself the canon 180mm macro lens with which I have taken most other pictures in my macro folder and which I have come to appreciate very much.

One day, I will be ready to go beyond 1:1 and happily get back to your advice!

    Thanks a lot

  1. What a great capture! It has some intriguing details. For example, I like very much how the water droplets are frozen, but the wing is not. The missing head (admittedly more than just a detail) makes it very interesting, giving it a surreal touch. On closer inspection, the little black piece just above the wing turns out to be what looks like the pecker and therefore gives explanation.

The gradient in the water is placed just right. The noise in the image works fine for me.

What could possibly be better? (I promised to point out possible improvements :-) )

Well, the water rings could be placed horizontally. This, of course, would change the whole composition such that more width is needed (to give the now tilted body enough space on the right side). Therefore I don't know if it would have been practically possible.

Also the contrast seems just a bit too high with loss in the white back of the body as well as in the black legs.

All in all, one of my favorite pictures in your portfolio!

    Baby Elephants

Yes you are right, the grass does distract somewhat from the elephant to the left. Considering the well exposed right elephant, however, I have found the grass helpful to show how tiny those two babies actually are. Of course, it could be better placed...

To me, it is too green and there are too many elements in the picture.

I have no idea where I should look at: the tongue, the other dog, the girl, the bowl or the bright area in the upper center (high contrast).

unfortunately, I am noticing that it has lost a lot of its sharpness due to compression and smaller size. Attached you find a detail crop at a magnification of 1.00.

    for your encouraging comments!

Indeed, the cheetah seems to submerge into the tall grass. I sure wouldn't want to be a small herbivore in those regions!
