<p>I am a Canon consumer and due to the prize I intend to buy a EOS-M with the 22mm pancake, for travel purposes. I am going to purchase as well the<strong> </strong><a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008O0IE2Y/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE">Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS M</a><strong>.</strong> I am considering whether buying the 18-55 kit of the eos-M, but I have a Canon EF-S 18-55 mm 3.5-5.6 IS II (C APS-C) that I do not use too much. Has any advantage the 18-55 of the canon M over the APS-C one?<br /></p>

Thanks, Michael, for your reply. Nobody doubts that Harbor Digital Design is a very reliable firm. The problem was promptly resolved by BH Photovideo. I understand things like that happen in every organization. I only found strange the first answer of BH. But I continued buying things to them until the Euro dropped against the dollar.

The quotation marks in the not working link are different from the others. When I copy and paste them in a html processor they appears as double quotation marks. Let's see if photo.net allows to see the difference:

a href="http (working)

Copy the link and paste it. You will see. Or put the mouse on it and see at the bottom of the i explore. It sends to you to photo.net again.

See the first path (The one that does not work):

I have the 190XPROB (the one that you can remove the central column and put it downwards) and it is very good. I have never changed the column to put the camera below the tripod, but in this model you can do it. The 055 XP bears 2 more Kgs.(7 instead of 5) and weights 0,5 Kgs more. It looks like more strong and solid. There is a model the 055XPROB in which you can do the same with the column and put it horizontal and cost 10 Euros more. See the features:
If you don't get the full link, copy and paste it in your browser.

Sorry, I was out. A ball head is faster and cheaper. I use it with short lenses (50mm or less). But when I have to use the 400 mm or 500mm (sometimes with a TC), or I am not skilled enough or the head is not made for this, but I take a lot of time to frame the place I want to shoot. With TC, it has been impossible.<div></div>

Sometimes, they sell you both things together, but they are two different products.

I have the Manfrotto 190XPROB and is good for any EOS with not a very heavy lens. I bought a ball head Manfrotto
486RC2 and had to buy a Bogen / Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head with Quick Release as the ball one was
useless with a 400 mm. (The tripod was OK)

As Tommy says, with the 24-105 you cannot go wrong. A prime for low light (depending on your priorities: 50 1.4, or
85 1.8 or 28 1.8). And for macro, the 100 mm Canon (or the 50 with extension tubes, no much difference for macro,
but you lose the other 100 mm 2.8 posibilities).
Do not forget to disable the 24-105 IS when you don't need it. You get sharper pictures:

I prefer to have some spare batteries, charge them at home (or hotel) and avoid the cigarette lighter. Nevertheless...if you are going to the desert for more that one month...I have a lot of 4Gb cards and still could be more worried about this.

Using the 40D I didn’t see much difference between 18-55 IS and 16-35 II ( in width and IQ, not in low light
conditions, and the price difference is huge).Only after having the 5D I started seeing the potential of lenses as 16-35
II, 24-105 and Sigma 12-24 (only recommended for specific tasks). I have seen how sharp can the 24-105 be without
IS. I did not use the 18-55 without IS but I got excellent pictures with the IS turned ON. I have to try it one day.

Have a look at this:
http://www.photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00PRaZ
You have samples of Sigma 12-24 and Canon 15mm fisheye

Once you try the Full Frame, you leave the crop factor camera for specific purposes as telelenses and sports. I have a 40D and a 5D (I bought it later) and 95% of the time I use the second one. I am an amateur and use it for family and some specific non photographic works. (Exhibitions without flash)<div></div>

If I shoot at enough shutter speed I disable the IS to get more sharpness /Canon 24-105). And the IS does not freeze people moving.

I am with Elliot. I would like to see a comparison between 50D and 5D at 3200.
-
Canon 10-22 is the best option. Saving in lenses never is a good business. You will be regretting it every time you see the cheaper lens.
-
For sports I would recommend the 40D. 6.5 fps and 1.6 crop factor. For me they are the most important features. I do not understand why the next 50D is only 6.3 fps. I don't need the 15 megapixels. They have produced a "slower" camera. It is almost nothing but psycologycally it is a step back.
Of course for wide angle I use the 5D. (40D fot telelenses and sports)
-
I would choose the 30D. If he has to learn photography, you are not going to explain to him the possibilities of a P&S. And I suppose that you are not going to teach him just to press the button. Before learning the basics of potography in DSLR's I used the P&S in full auto and just knew how to press the button to focus the target. Now I use a pocket P&S everyday but can use all the camera functions.

The best wide angle for Nikon is AF-S Zoom Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF. I am thinking to buy it for Canon with an adaptor.
