which one is it? I have the 17-55 IS f2.8 and its pretty silent too. Even survived a 3 ft fall from a table onto a hard wood floor recently which pleased me. Still, the 430 EX flash was destroyed :(
-
You won't be dissapointed with either camera. For macro work the 40D is probably better due to the crop. The 5D will produce better image quality. If money is no option I would probably choose the 5D though, unless you really need a fast fps speed.
-
Not sure about the lens as I only really use primes, but the 40D is excellent. I personally have one and am very pleased. I upgraded it from a 400D. The feel (size) and build quality is so much better. The fps are excellent and the AF is much better too.
Image quality is about the same and I wuldn't worry about the difference between 10.1mp and 12mp. The old 30D was only 8.1mp and took better images than the 400D. Its the lens thats most important.
I'd go with the 40D over the XSI any day.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the answers. I guess the term fine art is maybe wrong here, but want to sell prints of my street work. Such a tricky thing the law.
-
Hi
Would anyone know the law in relation to selling street shots as fine art
prints? I'm thinking about the shots which include people, where their faces are
visible. Especially ones where the person is the main focus of the photo.
I'm based in the UK.

Hi
Well the 135L is a superb lens. The 70-200 covers the same range so maybe not needed. The plus point though, the 135 is alot lighter and smaller than the 70-200 . Also, if you shoot in the street it brings less attention due to its size.
I use it as i really prefer primes over zooms, but thats personal choice.
IQ wise, i doubt if there is any difference. The 70-200 is after all one of the best lenses canon make.
What is the main use you have in mind for it?

Thanks for the quick reply William. Much appreciated.

must be the new model. i ordered a gt3540 and got the gt3541 which is the new model.
looks identical tbh

Hi
I have the Gitzo GT3541LS tripod and am considering a lateral arm for it. Will
hold a Canon 40D with a Canon 100mm Macro lens and ring flash.
Does anyone know what the best lateral arm would be for this? The head is a Kirk
BH-1 ball head.
There seems to be 3 models from Gitzo but not sure if they all fit the tripod or
not?
Cheers
Jake

Do I need a model release for pictures of people in a public place? The project
is for a book and prints to be sold commercially.
I am based in the UK.
Thanks

It makes sense. I always put a UV filter on. I'd suggest a top of the range hoya uv as its a nice lens.
-
I imagine its the same problem i had with adobe lightroom when i got my 40d.
you need to update the software. it will then recognize the the raw format that the 40d uses.
hope his helps.

Must be doing something wrong. my 40d goes to 100 after auto when i turn the dial on the back.
Have another go, u might have just turned the wheel too fast and missed it.
-
I have the 40d (upgraded from a 400d). Its an awesome camera and a much better fit if you have bigger hands. i guess it all comes down to budget really. The 70-200m f2.8 will be better for indoors low light, but is a pricey lens. Maybe get the 40d and a cheaper prime lens such as the 40mm f1.4 or the 135mm f2.0
-
xti, 400d and rebel kiss are all the same camera. I think the xti is USA, 400d UK/Europe and the kiss is the Japanese model.
Accessories are all the same and with a plug converter will work in any location when it comes to charging. Just different warrenties.
-
Well the 85mm you have is just an awesome lens. The 50mm f1.4 is good and great value. If you want L series build quality then the 50mm f1.2 is great but expensive.
I use the 135mm f2 L alot and that a very sharp lens and great value for an L.
-
The 135mm f2.0 L is an excellent lens and great value. I use it alot mainly for street work. Also the 50mm f1.4 is awesome for its money. And yes, the 85mm f1.2 is the daddy of lenses. Its on my list to get next.
-
If canon L series lenses are out of your price range then maybe check out sigma or other manufacturers. Sigma does an f2.8 50-200mm which is decently priced.

I have the 400d and have already pre-ordered my 40d. The 400d is a superb camera and I have been very happy with it. I want the more rugged build of the 40d. I am sure picture quality will be not really too noticeable, but certainly the higher frame rate will be a bonus.
-
So who would upgrade from the 400d to the 40d? More rugged build, will fit
better in a bigger hand, same sensor but with digic III and improved noise
levels at higher ISO's(apparently), 6.5 fps and partial weather sealing.
What are peoples reasons for or against?
Personally I have pre-ordered a 40d mainly for the more rugged build quality. I
like the 400d and it has been a great introduction to the world of DSLR. The
40d is my next step as the 5D is out of my price range for now as a body. I
have been focusing on buying good quality lenses instead and have a few decent
ones now.

Never underestimate the power of sony's marketing machine. Thats one wealthy company with a very very good advertising team.
still, canon and nikon have the best reputation. there will always be the old who is better question. i'm a canon man myself but i think maybe nikon win. they say canon makes the best camera, nikon the best lenses.
i go with the camp that says the lens makes the big difference. a crap lens on a good camera = crap shots and vice versa, so nikon seems to win in the long run.
still, the difference is probably minimal and i do love the canon kit.
-
Well i've pre-ordered mine. upgrading from a 400d mainly due to the partial weather sealing and more rugged build.

Pixmania is a reputable firm and I have bought from them in several occasions.
They are overseas and the products are for the european market. The models are exactly the same though.
Printing greeting cards - Epson 3800
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted
Hi
I was wondering if the epson 3800 is capable of printing greeting cards? Also, and
I guess more importantly, does anyone know of any manufacturers who make
extremely high quality media to print cards onto?
Thanks
