  1. Hello,

I am moving to tanzania in July. I will be living ind the city of Dar es Salaam but will look forward to going on a few safaris.

I am taking my canon 7d; canon 5d mark iv. my lenses are 17- 50 is, the 50 mm 1.8 and my 70-200 II 2.8.

I can not afford a lot. I can get a 24-70 II for a decent price. so this is what I was thinking:

I was thinking of getting a canon extender to give my 70 200 more range on my 7d while using the 24 - 70 for a walk around and landscapes.

I would clearly like to have a 16-35 and 200- 400 but cost is a factor and i think the 24-70 and extender might give me more options.

I would appreciate any thoughts .

  3. Hello all I did a search for a similar topic but i could not find anything close enough

I have been debating whether or not i should invest in a heat press, convert my back up epson to dye sublimation and create my own metal prints or should i send everything to a professional print shop

I am hoping to create a small inventory to sell at small craft shows and farmers markets. I currently print regular prints on my canon pro100. I have done a lot of research and I am still not sure which would be the most cost effective.

does anyone one have any experience creating metal prints at home? I have researched a few print shops and have made a decision which i would go to.... just trying to figure which is best in the long run.

    thank you in advance

    David

  4. I did a search and found nothing new so here goes....

I recently took some photos that seem popular and i have a few individuals who would like to have it printed on metal.

Does anyone print on metal at home? either with heat press or other forms of transfer? if you do.... did it go well and would you recommend it?

or do you send out for prints on metal and if you do where do you go that allows you to sell them at a fair price and profit?

    thank you for your thoughts

  5. Hello,

I searched prior posts and did not find anything..

I was wondering if anyone has experiences with either wedding wire or the knot. I was quoted the following prices...

the knot - 157 a mont for basic and 240 for feature. feature guarantees you a spot on the front page. The wedding wire is very similar in pricing.

approximately 3000 a year is a lot of money, but I know at times you must spend to make.

About me... I have been shooting weddings for approximately a year as the lead photographer and I have done shoots for bands and sports for a few years. As I attempt to go further with my craft I am disappointed at the slow pace of getting clients. I have an active social media and I am in the process of offering photo shoot events.

Basically I dont want to waste my money.... so if anyone has any thoughts on these 2 sites i would love to hear them.

I live in Southern NJ if that helps

  6. <p>I recently bought a Kingston 64 gig cf card for a 2 week trip to the Philippines. I had no real issues till just recently. I took some graduation pictures and then tried to upload them to my MacBook Pro and it won't be recognized. The reader works because my other cards show up. the card in question still has the pictures on them.</p>

    <p>anyone ever have this issue?</p>

    <p>David</p>

<p>not sure if this is the right forum i shoot with a Canon 7d</p>

  7. I am leaving next week to go to the philipines for 2 weeks. We are going to be staying with family for close to a week and spending Tim at

2 different resorts. Her family lives on iloilo.

    The gear I am taking. My canon 7d, 70-200 is, 17-55 2.8. My charger 3 batteries 2 - 16 gb cards(might by 1 more) and a tripod for family

    pics

My gear will be in the a carry on with locks securing the zippers.

We will be there for a 100th birthday and Holy Week and I hope to get good shots.

I have one or 2 questions:

Does anyone recommend travel insurance. I checked with my homeowners and they said they cover it I wasn't sure if I should get more. I

will be taking pictures of my gear just as a precaution.

Safety ideas - I am awareof some of the hazards: ie pickpockets and such... I am hoping being with family will help but I a bald extremely

white guy who I was told will stand out everywhere.

This is the furthest I have gone and the nicest gear I have traveled with... Any travel suggestions (or suggestions of any kind)would be

    great

    Thank you David

  8. <p>before it gets mentioned I did a search of past postings and I research everything before I purchase anything. All this research is actually driving me nuts. <br>

    First my gear - <br>

    i have a canon 7d, the 18-135 is, the 50mm 1.8<br>

I have been saving for a while and would like to upgrade a few lenses.<br>

I just recently rented the 70-200 2.8 is ii and that one is definitely on the list. I will be purchasing that lens hopefully soon.<br>

the area in which i am driving myself crazy is what next<br>

my options are as follows - price does matter but i am will to save a bit longer if it is worth it<br>

canon 24-70 L then save for the 16-35<br>

    or<br>

    the canon 17-55 and the 85 prime<br>

    or<br>

    go all prime<br>

    the 85, 50 and a wide angle prime</p>

<p>I have owned tamron lenses and am not opposed to them as long as the quality is not too drastic. i was thinking of the new tamron 70-200 but i read in a few places that it is soft at 2.8 and that is one of the reasons i am getting it.</p>

<p>I am looking to do more with my photography... currently I am the photography for a camp and have done portraits. I am looking to do more sports (wrestling for example) which is why i lean to the 2.8 or better lenses<br>

thank you for the input and i am sorry if it is a tired question but i am driving myself nuts</p>

  9. In April I am taking a two-week trip to the Philippines to visit my wife's family. I am looking for a good bag for the airplane has the camera

in the bottom and space up top. Since space is an issue with packing are there any recommendations for something to carry the camera

around on a daily basis that is not a huge backpack and can be placed in luggage.

I will not be backpacking through the wilderness. We are staying with family, spending a day in Manila and 2 days at a resort. I like the

backpack idea for the plane and the convenience since we will have other bags.

I did a search but could not find anything recent.

If there is any other suggestions on items to bring while traveling to the Philippines feel free. This is the first big trip I have taken with my

    gear.

    I have a canon 7D a 50mm, a 18-135 a 430 ex ( this might change if I can get my new lens past my wife, 70-200)

    Thanx for your thoughts

  10. <p>ok so I am getting ready to buy a Canon 70-200 2.8 is ii. I have found a few used/refurbished ones that i can afford after months of saving.<br>

my question is how do I tell the difference between an original compared to the ii? I am buying it online, will it say on the lens somewhere Canon 70-200 2.8 is <strong>ii </strong>or is there some marking on the <strong>ii</strong> that the original one does not have? I just have no desire of either being scammed or having someone sell it who might not be aware which one he/she has.<br>

    thanx for your time <br>

    David</p>

  11. I am the photographer for a camp that serve children who are ill. The camp has finally gave me permission to hopefully find an online site

to share the pictures with the parents. The camp is very concerned with privacy and is rightfully concerned with have the pictures online.

The camp already has the campers and parents sign releases. There are a lot of pictures and over 70 families to consider.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any recommendations on which website is best? Perhaps a site that is invite only and password

protected. I have looked into som like smug mug and photo bocket but am a bit unsure.

    Thank you for your time

  12. <p>Hello all, it has been a while since I have posted here.<br>

I am attempting to print from home again. I recently took a nice photo of my niece and I tried to print it for my sister in law and it kept coming up darker then my screen. I tried many things including modifying the image more in Lightroom but it was nor working. <br>

So i broke down and went to a professional photo store and they recommended Colormunki Smile. I brought home the product and Calibrated my Monitor and i am having the same problem.<br>

I do not think that the colormunki created a profile. <br>

My questions are did I get the wrong product? was a profile created i simply can not find it?<br>

My Gear: Canon 7d, Imac, Canon pixma 480 for work and simple prints and an Epson 1400 (this printer rarely prints properly)</p>

<p>Any insight would be appreciated </p>

  13. Hello,

I am a volunteer photographer at a camp starting this Saturday. I have been the photographer for many years now.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the best way to organize. Allow me to explain. In a single day I will take a 300 to 500 photos

of everything from swimming to sports to arts and crafts. I will then load it onto my laptop at the first chance. I will do this for 6 days

    straight.

My laptop crapped out on me and I am using a loner... It is a Mac book pro.

    Ok the questions:

    1. Any recommendations on free or cheap photo organizers... I have ps elements and the default programs on the Mac.

    2. Any recommendations on how to best batch my photos. If I take archery photos on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday what is the best

way to import into the same archery folder in a progressive manner so the images are stored in order and no duplicate file numbers. Now

remember when I take archery folders I will also be taking other photos.

3 should I reformat my card every time I downloads the pics

    I have the canon 7d

Like I said I have done this for years just looking for recommendations

    Thanks david

  14. <p>hello all,<br>

My wife surprised me on my birthday with a 7D. once the shock and excitement wore off I got down to reading the instructions (even though i already knew a lot of it...it is a trait my dad taught me "always read the directions"</p>

<p>so i have a few questions, most of which I know there is no one corret answer, just looking for ideals and thoughts.</p>

<p>first - how do i turn it on and put the lens on? --- just kidding</p>

<p>to give you my frame of referrence I have been using a 20D that has (and will continue to) served me quite well. I take a wide variety of pictures.... family casual portraits, sports (my nephews) scenic views (my wife and I travel)</p>

<p>So i am inquiing to anyone who owns one or has owned one any recomendations on the Cn functions.</p>

    <ul>

<li>what do they have theirs at and why/ I am in the process of experimenting and coming up with my own thoughts but I am a history teacher. I research everything including how other people do things.</li>

<li>I have never used Video on a DSLR before and I was wondering ifthere was any advice on setting a CN function</li>

<li>and finally any advise on utilizing the many functions. I personally think it is a waste buying something with so many options and not utilzing as many as possible.</li>

<li>I am doing other research on line so if there are any favorite websites that might help that would be great</li>

    </ul>

<p>I am asking these open ended questions because I personally think it is a waste buying something with so many options and not utilzing as many as possible</p>

<p>thank you for taking the time to read this and any help is appreciative</p>

  15. <p>Hello,</p>

    <p>I have a 20d with a tamron 24-135 and my 50 1.8<br>

I am spending a day or so in lima the off to cusco and the incan trail.<br>

aside from my day pack i will be carrying my 20d in a borrowed case logic side bag (my bag is too big)<br>

I am going to buy another CF card so i can shoot in raw. <br>

i was going to buy a spare battery and hope that the 2 batteries i have will last me since i will not have access to electricity<br>

instead of the extra battery should I get a battery grip? will that serve me better on the trail? i take some shots in portraiture and i know it is easier to use for those shots.<br>

will my battery last longer with the grip?<br>

any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have never been on a 3-4 day hiking trip. i will have plastic in case it rains.</p>

<p>thank you for any thoughts <br>

    David</p>

  16. Hello all,

Forgive any typos I have to do this from my iPhone.

My wife and I are walking up the Incan trail in august. I was wondering any suggestions for carrying my gear.

I have a 20d and will be using my tamron 24-135. I have limited funds and cannot afford a new lens. This is the first time I will go

hiking up a mountain with my camera. I wll have a day pack. I usually carry my camera in a lowepro sling bag.

Basically looking for any suggestions on how to carry any recommended bags or harness contraptions that may make life easier.

Basically any suggestions that people have for a first time hiker with a camera would be greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance for your help... I am volunteering at camp so may not be able to respond quickly

    David

  17. <p>Hello all,</p>

<p>I was unsure which forum to ask this question. If I am in the wrong one let me know.</p>

<p>My father, who is 70, just complained vehemently about the how fast he ran out of ink on his HP all in one printer. I had no real advice for him. He said he chose the ink saver settings and still the ink empty quicker then he though they should.<br>

My day is not extremel;y tech savy but he is the type to wrestle with the computer/printer until he know how to work it.</p>

<p>I mentioned that maybe he should use an online service. He only really prints 4x6's with a random larger print every now and then. I have used Mpix which I like but i was wondering which site would be best for a 70 year old man. A site that can maybe give online galleries and offer printing at fair prices wich is easy to use.</p>

    <p>thank you for your time<br>

    David</p>
