1.
I find it interesting that the original poster just recently called people cowards in a recent posting a few days ago - then apologized. Now he is calling people cowards again and yet again he apologizes.
Just a suggestion a way to avoid appologizeing so often is to learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.
BTW I only have one picture up due to the fact I am a hobbyist with little time and I work with non-profits do not permit display of their clients.
It is kind of a strange feeling being called a coward twice in the span of a few days.
And before the OP googles my name and formualtes other incorrect opinions about my knowledge or experience, very little will come up, with no galleris.
It is amazing how angry I am getting as I Write this. I come on Photo.net for my daily fix of my hobby because I can not do it everyday. It is Poster like him that cause animosity and a general felling of elitism which I have not felt before. This site is one of the few I have found that not only accept all levels of Photograpy but they actually seem to encourage it.

I am sorry I babble that is what happens when I get a little angry.
2.
So i switched over to mac and i really miss faststone. I checked the archives of posts and could not find a good answer.

All i really need is a program that will resize a large number of photos. faststone was really easy to use and was free.

is there a comparable free mac program. I do not need to manipulate my images just resize them. other programs try too hard and want to do it all. I just need to resize.

thank you
3.
Ok I hate these kind of questions but I am really not sure what to get.

what I have... a Canon 20d, 430ex, tripod, tamron 24-135, canon 50 1.8

what I shoot ... I am an experienced amateur. I shoot family portraits, just started shooting newborn shots, I do candids, I have helped at a couple weddings but I have not gotten into that yet. Looking to be a second shooter.

a teacher at my work asked me to take formals at the winter dance I was considering it just to learn lighting.... the students are not even expecting a photographer

I mention all that just so you can have an idea of what i shoot

What i was thinking of getting... a travel backdrop set up
the 580 ex so i can work on my lighting
light stand
flash bracket
or start to acquire travel studio lights.
Battery grip
or a lens (the tamron 17-50) cant afford the good canons

when I pay off some bills, I hope to have between 800-1000 dollars to spend.
what would you get?
Again let me apologize to the generality of my question, I fought asking it as long as I could
thank you david

  4.
Chas I believe it is yes to al the answers....

I am printing out of lightroom...
Print resolution is 240
Print sharpening is on standard and glossy
my color management profile is SP 1400 1410 pgpp
rendering intent perceptual

Under the printer profiles I have ICM checked and the NO color adjustment box checked

the paper is set correctly and the ink is correct.

I have tried it with other setting through my frustration but always come back to this.

I have researched color management and done some reading but if you have a suggestion for a book or website that would be great
thanx for the time
David

  5.
I drank the kool aid. I did my research; I asked questions and I went ahead and got the epson 1400. It was in my price level. it printed 13 - 19 prints and it was an epson.

all I have had is trouble with this machine. I just printed a picture for my family I did multiple test prints on the epson everyone came up wwrong. either way too much contrast or overly saturated. too bright or too dark. a few times the picture was actually both too dark and too light. It is a collage with multiple pictures on it.

I pulled out my canon ip100 travel printer. it came out right the first time exactly as it looks on the screen. I would use the travel printer more but it eats ink and the cartridges are small.

for the record... when i printed with the epson. I made sure the settings were reset. I tried it on every combination you can think of and I have the profile downloaded. No idea what to do. I have not used it all that often and the epson people are no real help.

any suggestions... just get rid of it? go to canon?

I have done prints online but I would like a decent printter to use when it is not cost effective of order online.

sorry about the typing...I am fired up and in a hurry

thank you in advance for your time

David

  6.
I almost did it. I almost through my epson 1400 out the window. the only reason i did not do it is because it might not be at fault.

I am researching doing my prints online, however when iI have just a handful of shots i would like to print for a friend I would like to think the epson should be able to handle it.

The first 3 cam out fine. Just like on my monitor. then the next hand ful of prints look nothing like the monitor. one is too dark, one is grainy meanwhile one is over saturated. even though the monitor looks great.

I am printing from lightroom. I am using the custom profile from epson (yes it is epson pro paper) the print resolution was at 220 and then one at 480 print sharpening is standard and the media is matte.

under properties the paper type is premium matte, color management has ICM checked with no color adjustment checked.

i have researched this on Photo.net and found some help but not enough. I tried to copy and paste my settings from lightroom but i could not figure it out.

Any ideas. is it the printer? the program? should i save it and use another program (which would be counter productive due to the options LR gives me for sizes)? I will try another program but I have to get new ink since i wasted so much trying to figure this out.

I am working of Calibration for my monitor just have not benn able to yet

thank you in advance for any ideas

David

  7.
Hello all,

I am printing some pictures of my friends wedding on my Epson 1400. I created a template in lightroom. I am trying to print 2 7x7 pictures on the same paper (13x19) paper. (it is all i have right now and the type of paper is appropriate to the pictures).

I have 2 pictures highlighted and the same picture is being place on the same paper. so on one piece of paper I have 2 copies of the same picture. I would rather have 2 different pictures on the one paper. I can not seem to figure this out.

I hope i explained this correctly...anyone have any ideas?

  8.
hello,

I posted a similar question a few weeks ago and i have not been able to ix the problem

i have an Epson 1400, i use lightroom and I have tried printing from other programs with similar results.
I do not have a calibration tool, can not afford one right now. I am not on my computer so i can not show you my settings but they are what i have been told to do. the color management is off, the profiles have been selected and I still am wasting paper and ink on bad prints.

the question I have is would creating a custom profile help? what is a custom profile? how do I create one? i am writing this in a very annoyed state so forgive any grammar and punctuation issues.

My next step os throwing my printer out the window

thank you David

  9.
I have recently been needing a little more reach with my lenses. so I am in the market for a 70-200 lens.

first the background. I have a 20d, I will be shooting sports (my niece and nephews) and candid close ups. I will have to be mobile so I do not think a Prime will be my best choice. Half the sports will be indoor (volleyball and wrestling) so I would like a 2.8 lens.

I have done the searches and research. I can not afford a Canon 2.8 70-200 lens. I was looking at the Tamron but the reviews say the new version has trouble focusing and the reviews on the sigma were even worse.

any suggestions?

David

  10.
Hello all,

first my products... I have windows xp; an epson 1400 printer

the question: I drink the kool aid and buy an epson and I have been havving some issues.
Lightroom is printing dark...zoombrowser is printing closer to my screen image.

I need a quick tutorial on how to best create my image via my computer and printer

1st: Paper profiles I use epson ultra premium 5star. I know there is better but i am an amatuer and i have a budget. does epson have a profile for this paper? if i cant profile this paper any recommendations?

2nd: calibration- i have heard of the spyder and other techniques... which is the best and which is the most economical?

basically how can i have my prints look like the image on the computer screen? Is it the program and if it is how do i change it i like lightroom but it is very frustrating.

any help would be appreciated.

david

  11.
Yes i know lightroom does not actually print.

I have lightroom 2.0. My printer is an Epson 1400. I am trying to print from light room but th eprints are coming ouyt very dark. I do not think it is a calibration issue or my printer. I have printed these pictures using another program and they came out fine. The templates on lighhtroom would bee much easier for me to work with so I would prefer to work with that program.

any idea why they wwould be dark when printed from Lightroom?

thank you David

  12. it is a JPEG with minimal post processing in Lightroom. I am printing from Lightroom. (epson did not give me a print program which kinda shocked me) The photo was taken outside in late afternoon and in a shaded area. Th camera settings were no different from previous pictures taken. the picture looks fine it is just the print.

I ask this question because the printer is new and i have never had this problem before.

  13. Hello,

I am using an Epson 1400 printer for the first time. I am printing a family portrait that looks fine on my laptop

but the prints look very high in contrast. I use lightroom and lowered the contrast all the way among some other

varying efforts but the pictures are still coming out with the appearance of high contrast.

Do you think my monitor is not calibrated? I heard both the printer and program can have color profiles. should I

    turn one off?

any suggestions would help thak you.

    David
